Jill, a leader speaking with Bill Gates after Gates said the greatest problem is much of the world does not have technology access, said the greatest problem is the “lack of civility.” We have become more self-centered as a group and extremely impatient with each other. As a result, we interact less in true social settings, unless it is transactional. Hence, we have become less compassionate, unless we can easily exhibit moments of compassion by “liking something.” I recognize these are generalizations, as many are not like this, but as noted in your quoted excerpt, we need to find ways to be more civil and compassionate. You make a good point here, Keith. We do interact less these days, except on social media, and that is a whole different animal. Perhaps people are actually forgetting HOW to be civil! Wouldn’t it be horrible to live in a world where there were no filters, where everybody said exactly whatever they were thinking at any given moment? Is that the world we are destined to become? I do hope not!

The following is a generalization, but here goes. The people who are the least tolerant tend to require the most tolerance from others. People like candor until it is used against them, such as our President-elect. My guess is he will try to get away with as few press conferences as possible, as he does not like questions or criticism.

I’m sure you are spot on with this! I think he intends to use Twitter and YouTube as his means of communicating, thus bypassing the media altogether. And for us … it robs us of the opportunity to hear the analysis of professionals, PLUS it robs us of hearing opposing viewpoints.
