I have often wondered over the course of the past year or so, if there was a line that Trump and his minions would not cross, if there was anything that would offend their sensitivities. A few weeks ago, I would have said that no, there are no limits to their hatred and evil. However, finally a person has managed to offend them and spur their anger, and that person is one of their own, one Carl Paladino.
Many may not realize or remember, but Paladino has a long history of crudity dating back to at least 2010 when he was running against Governor Andrew Cuomo for governor of New York. At that time, Paladino was reported to have sent a series of racist and sexually explicit emails over the course of several years, which he later admitted to having sent. The messages contained provocative pictures of naked women in revealing positions and engaging in sexual activity. Paladino included brief notes in some instances when he blasted out the images. More than once, he wrote, “awesome,” while on a different occasion he said, “for andy this is better.” Paladino admitted to having sent at least some of the emails, saying, “I’m not politically correct and never have been. I’m not perfect. But if the worst I ever did was send out some non-politically correct e-mails, my God.”
Among the emails Paladino shared were the following:
- A photo showing a group of black men trying to get out of the way of an airplane that is apparently moving across a field. The caption reads: “Run niggers, run.”
- A doctored photo of President and Mrs. Obama showing the president in a stereotypical pimp’s costume holding the hand of the first lady, who is dressed as a prostitute in a grotesquely revealing outfit.
Paladino’s political views are nearly as disgusting as his personal lack of values:
- In 2010, he said that one of his first acts as governor would be to cut Medicaid — which provides health services to the poor — by $20 billion.
- He personally opposes same-sex marriage
- He opposes the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010, and says that he believes that the long-term impact of the act would be just as memorable and possibly more deadly than the September 11 attacks.
Today, Paladino is back in the news, and thus on my radar. Paladino was the New York co-chairman of the Trump campaign, where he aggressively pushed and threatened Republicans in New York’s delegation to Congress and the State Legislature to support Trump, writing in an open letter: “This is our last request that you join ‘Trump for President’ and try to preserve what’s left of your pathetic careers in government”. How is it that Trump always manages to find the sleaziest people???
- In July 2016, Paladino called for Attorney General Loretta Lynch to be lynched on Twitter
- He also threatened delegates to the 2016 Republican National Convention if they did not vote for Trump as pledged: “I don’t trust our entire delegation (…) I’d certainly whack them if they went off the reservation.”
- In August 2016, Paladino falsely claimed in an interview with the New York Observer that President Barack Obama was a secret Muslim, repeating a long-since debunked conspiracy theory.
Which brings us to last week. On December 23rd, Paladino took part in an interview with alternative weekly newspaper Artvoice. When asked what he would like to see happen in 2017, Paladino replied:
“Obama catches mad cow disease after being caught having relations with a Hereford. He dies before his trial and is buried in a cow pasture next to [senior White House advisor] Valerie Jarrett, who died weeks prior, after being convicted of sedition and treason, when a Jihady [sic] cell mate mistook her for being a nice person and decapitated her. Michelle Obama. I’d like her to return to being a male and let loose in the outback of Zimbabwe where she lives comfortably in a cave with Maxie, the gorilla.”
Paladino’s son, William, criticized his father’s remarks, saying they were “disrespectful and absolutely unnecessary.” The Trump transition team released a statement saying, “Carl’s comments are absolutely reprehensible, and they serve no place in our public discourse.” Donald Trump himself, however, has yet to respond. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo called the words “racist, ugly, and reprehensible”.
In a later statement to The Washington Post, Paladino said “It has nothing to do with race. That’s the typical stance of the press when they can’t otherwise defend the acts of the person being attacked. It’s about 2 progressive elitist ingrates who have hated their country so badly and destroyed its fabric in so many respects in 8 years.” Reached briefly by phone Friday, Paladino confirmed that he made the comments and that he is currently involved in Trump’s transition efforts. “I don’t think Mr. Trump particularly cares what I have to say. He knows me. I was active with him, and I still am active with him. And that’s it. I’ll say what I feel like saying.”
You or I, my friends, would be in jail if we uttered those same words in a public forum. And rightly so. As Adam-Troy Castro said in his Facebook message yesterday in reference to evil people like Paladino, “Nothing, not even the revulsion of the public, can touch them or change the course of their conduct.” And today, more than ever in the history of our nation, these people feel free to speak and act as they wish. They have been vindicated by Mr. Trump and his minions. The rocks under which they lived have been removed, and their evil is now considered ‘acceptable’.
Well think again, Mr. Paladino, Mr. Sessions, Mr. Trump, KKK, Mr. Bannon, Mr. Duke, and all the others out there … your behaviour is NOT acceptable now and never will be. The majority of Americans are appalled and disgusted by you and your culture of evil and we will fight you.
Paladino is currently a member of the Buffalo New York School Board. Yes, that is correct, this filthy, disgusting piece of slime is in a position to make decisions guiding the education of children. Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz called on Paladino to resign immediately, as did Assemblyman Sean Ryan D-Buffalo, who said Paladino’s comments are “outrageous, dangerous and disturbing.” Paladino said in an interview on WBEN that he would not step down.
Most Trump supporters do not read this blog, however there are a few who do. I hope this message spreads, because most Trump supporters I know would never consciously support the words and actions of this despicable piece of rubbish, but yet … they are the very reason that this kind of vermin is now not only walking among us, but strutting down the streets of our towns and cities, acting as if they have as much right as any to spew garbage and make us all feel filthy. Thank you, Mr. Trump, Mr. Pence, and every single person who has aligned him/herself with da trumpeter … you have turned the nation into a cesspool.
