With Malice Aforethought …

The next presidential election is three years away.  Three years … that is 34 months  … it is 146 weeks … it is 1,021 days.  And I think it is a safe bet that Donald Trump will not be the Republican candidate by that time.  However, today, January 20th, he released a campaign ad.  This is the ‘man’ whose interference and bombast arguably caused the government of the United States to shut down just over 24 hours ago.  And rather than trying to bring some cohesion to the two parties in Congress, rather than trying to ensure that there is minimal disruption of essential services, rather than trying to calm the populace, he is running his ghost campaign for 2020!

Trump’s ad starts with an immigration officer bragging about killing immigrants, and then it goes on to say we must build his shameful wall in order to stop these murders.  As If he cares a whit about the lives of immigrants, for he does not.  Then at the end, he says that Democrats that stand in his way of building a wall along the southern border “will be complicit in every murder committed by illegal immigrants.”  A few points here:

  1. Trump never intended to build the wall … it was merely a ploy to get the support of those who believe that immigration is such a problem as to be a threat to their safety and lifestyle. The evidence of this lies in his phone call to Mexico’s president Enrique Peña Nieto on 27 January 2017, in which he clearly said that the wall was “the least important thing that we are talking about, but politically…the most important.” He said that he needed Peña Nieto to stop saying publicly that Mexico would not pay for the wall, as it was making him (Trump) look bad.
  2. On Friday, in an effort to come to some terms, even bad terms, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer went to the White House and offered to support funding for a border wall in exchange for inclusion of DACA in the spending bill. Other key Democrats also agreed to include funding for the wall, even though all still oppose it.  Trump did not even bother to speak to Schumer, but rejected the deal through his Chief of Staff, John Kelly, who said the offer to fund a wall was not enough.  Make no mistake, friends … Donald Trump single-handedly brought about this shutdown of our government.  Intentionally, and with malice aforethought.
  3. Donald Trump does not care about the lives of immigrants.  He doesn’t care about your life or mine, let alone those of people who he has referred to as being ‘criminals and rapists’.  Donald Trump no doubt applauded that immigration officer for murdering people who were not WASPs, for Donald Trump is, by any standard, a bigot and a racist.
  4. Illegal immigration via our southern border is not among our biggest national problems, and the cost of the wall would be overkill by any standard. Experts have stated that the wall would be expensive and ineffective, and it will have a negative effect on the economies of Mexico and of our border states as tourism dwindles.  Trump told his supporters that Mexico would be paying for the wall, which most of us, including Trump himself, knew was not going to happen, but now he is asking you and I, as well as his own supporters, to pay for the abominable wall.

I wrote earlier this week that Trump would ensure that there is a shutdown so that he can swoop in and somehow end it, claiming all credit.  I still believe that is his goal, and was all along.  Consider a few of his morning tweets yesterday … …

“This is the One Year Anniversary of my Presidency and the Democrats wanted to give me a nice present.” – 6:33 AM – Jan 20, 2018

“Democrats are far more concerned with Illegal Immigrants than they are with our great Military or Safety at our dangerous Southern Border. They could have easily made a deal but decided to play Shutdown politics instead.” – 6:17 AM – 20 Jan 2018

“Democrats are holding our Military hostage over their desire to have unchecked illegal immigration. Can’t let that happen!” – 9:27 AM – 20 Jan 2018

And the one that made me throw my magnifying glass across the room:

“Beautiful weather all over our great country, a perfect day for all Women to March. Get out there now to celebrate the historic milestones and unprecedented economic success and wealth creation that has taken place over the last 12 months. Lowest female unemployment in 18 years!” – 1:51 PM – 20 Jan 2018

The Women’s Marches that took place around the nation yesterday were in protest of Donald Trump, not in support of.  I am sure that Trump is well aware of that.

This shutdown will cost the taxpayers approximately $6.5 billion for every week we cannot pay our debt.  It will result in people not getting paid, and will ultimately take a toll on the economy.  This is not the fault of the Democrats, but of Donald Trump and the Republicans in Congress who have enabled this poor excuse for a president. Donald Trump is a racist who cares more about keeping non-white immigrants out of the country than he does about keeping basic government services operational.

  1. Dear Jill,

What frosts me is that these folks in the US Congress still get paid for failing to do their job which is to budget for a spending bill.
No one wins with these shutdowns but the republicans finally realized that their party would bear the brunt of the blame despite their campaign to put the blame on democrats.

This plan to focus blame on democrats backfired with that sick advertisement that you posted.

And there will be advertisements showing the House Rep Paul Ryan and VP Pence deliberately lying about democrats having caused shutdown, were responsible for military not getting paid. It turns out that a C-Span 2 video has gone viral where Democrat Senator Claire McCaskill is seen as offering an amendment to make sure that military didn’t suffer from interruption in pay, as was done in 2013, but the Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell shut her down faster than a speeding bullet.

    Hugs, Gronda

    • Gronda … I must say that in my 66 years, I have never seen such a mess as our federal government is in today. The shutdown is ended, byt today Schumer said the ‘wall’ is off the table, and you know there will be backlash for that. And thie “memo” that Devin Nunes is poised to release “in a week or two” is apparently doctored documents, but still, I fear the chaos, finger pointing and overall damage that it can cause. And Trump sits and watches himself criticizing Obama for the 2013 shutdown??? I can only imagine the chaos we will see in the coming weeks. I guess we better take a deep breath now while we can, then put our wading boots on to wade through the muck, yes? Hugs, my friend! (Today is my eye appointment … fingers crossed)

  2. He said there would be change.
Like it or not America voted him in
Personally I’m on the fence with this one.
One minute I think he’s lost it and the other I cheer his guts.
The end I guess will speak of the truth.

In testing the Spirit behind these leaders you must look at what they do.
Truth has two elements for those who lost that concept.
    1- What you say
    2- What you do
Both must come together to be truth.

Personality is far from the truth but Honesty should be there too.

    • What bothers me the most … well, everything he does or says/tweets bothers me, to be honest, but the thing that bothers me most is his lack of compassion, lack of humanity, his willingness to insult innocent people and incite violence without batting an eye. Even when you see him with his wife or youngest son, there is no warmth. I do not believe he has a conscience at all. And that is what frightens me more than anything.

  3. I think congress and the president still get paid during a shutdown, don’t they? If so think of that, while lov income needy people go without the assistance they need, and government employees don’t get paid and worry about paying their bills on time, congress is still getting paid to play political games with people’s lives. Hugs

        • Moot point now, but frankly, their pay may well be a very small portion of their annual income. this is the wealthiest Congress in the history of the nation, and most own or partly own businesses also. And then there are the monies placed in their pockets by big business and the NRA. So, unlike us, they won’t miss a beat if their pay were docked. Personally, I’d like to see them all have their fine mansions foreclosed and their BMWs repossessed.

  4. Reblogged this on It Is What It Is and commented:

    • And it is going to get even more brutal and autocratic before it gets straightened out, IF it ever gets straightened out. With Downward Turner at the helm, it is more likely he will be declared Dictatorial Tyrant before the next presidential election in the States. And wouldn’t that be a kick in the crotch to democracy…

      • That has been my fear since before he was even elected, and remains so today. He’s a gamer, and this shutdown is yet another piece of the puzzle he is unraveling. My most sincere hope is that he will be long gone by November, 2020. If he is not, there might well be no election.

        • And it is up to all of us, not just Americans, to see that the above future never happens.
Here in Canada they released the poll results from a questionnaire about how Canadians felt about Debilitating Tactician’s first year in office, and I was astonished by the first result, 20% of Canadians actually think DT has made the States a better place to live. I could not believe that over 7,000,000 Canadians are so blinded by his money that they will believe anything he says.
The next result was a bit better, there are at least 2,000,000 who can’t decide if DT is good or bad for the USA. That is, 6% of Canadians have an open mind, and still might be persuaded to see all the damage that DT has already done.
Finally the best result, almost 3/4 of Canadians can see DT is damaging the United States of America, and thereby screwing up the whole world. 27,000,000 (approximately) out of a population of 35,000,000 can see Dominating Threat for what he is, a rich racist pig who only cares about himself and his cronies.
Now, I realize in numbers that we Canadians would not even fill the state of California (not that most of us would choose to live there even if we could!), but that would still be a significant number in making sure DT had not been elected in the first place. No matter, the important thing is most of us want DT gone. As I am sure do most people in most nations on this Earth. He is a cancer on the whole human race and must be excised. Unfortunately, he can only be operated on by American surgeons, so the rest of us are counting on you to perform that operation. And if your scalpel slips a bit, and, say, lobotomizes his brain, well, I’m sure we will forgive you…

          • WOW … I was shocked to hear that 20% actually thought he was making this a better place to live! let me talk to them, for I can rapidly correct that notion. I was encouraged by the 75%, though. Yes, he is a cancer, and believe me I would love to be the one to operate on him … I would start by dropping my lit cigarette but into his open body, then remove all the parts and incineerate them. Oops, sorry Melania, but he could not be saved. And Melania would likely dance for joy. By the way, I like those names for him that you come up with! Sorry for the delay in responding. Still struggling with the vision.

            • Have you ever looked into magnification screens. I haven’t heard much about them lately, but when I used to work with people who had various obstacles to overcome, one of the tools for partially unsightly people was a screen that sat over the monitor and made everything bigger and easier to see. That was 20 years ago. They should have improved on that idea by now. I myself used to have to use reading glasses for regular print books, and I found Dollar Store reading glasses to be almost as good as $300 reading glasses. Not quite as comfortable to wear, but very bit as helpful for reading…
As for the names, I’m running out of the ones that just come to me while writing about Devolution Transitioner, so now I actually have to put a bit more thought into them. Maybe I can do better, lol. Thanks for enjoying them.

              • I have looked into the magnification screens, but have yet to find one that would work with my laptop, as they are more for desktop monitors. I use a magnifying glass and enlarge screens and text wherever possible, which makes it possible for me to write, but as you ight imagine, a pain sometimes. And more time-consuming, which is why I am always behind, for I still enjoy reading and responding with thought to comments, as well as writing two posts a day. Like you, I use reading glasses (700x) to read books, but most often use my Kindle, for I can enlarge the font on that. Getting old is not fun some days, but it beats the heck out of the alternative.

  5. Trump is an evil man as is McConnel who turned down an agreement by the Democrats to ensure the Military are paid despite Trump’s tweets suggesting the Democrats are holding the military hostage during the closedown. I suggest maybe he’s closed the business of America down so his pal Putin can come raid the Government for a few state secrets without interference.
