Score Another One For Depravity In The White House

Morals:  a person’s standards of behavior or beliefs concerning what is and is not acceptable for them to do.

Values:  a person’s principles or standards of behavior; one’s judgment of what is important in life.

Integrity:  the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness.

Remember back in 2001, just a few months after his inauguration, when George W. and Laura Bush’s twin daughters, Jenna and Barbara, were busted for trying to buy beer using a fake I.D.?  Just the month before, Jenna was arrested at 1:00 a.m. in a nightclub in Austin, Texas, because she was holding a bottle of beer. She turned up in court in a low-cut black shirt, pink Capri trousers and a toe ring. She was fined $51.25 and sentenced to eight hours of community service and six hours of alcohol awareness classes. The charge read: “Glass of beer – drank from it.”  OH, the SCANDAL!!!  If you remember, the media had a field day with it!

Remember August of 2014 when President Obama had the unmitigated gall, the audacity, to actually wear a tan suit???  GASP!!!  Representative Peter King righteously went on an extended rant:

“There’s no way any of us can excuse what the president did yesterday. When you have the world watching … a week, two weeks of anticipation of what the United States is gonna do. For him to walk out —I’m not trying to be trivial here— in a light suit, light tan suit, saying that first he wants to talk about what most Americans care about the revision of second quarter numbers on the economy. This is a week after Jim Foley was beheaded and he’s trying to act like real Americans care about the economy, not about ISIS and not about terrorism. And then he goes on to say he has no strategy.”Why, it was the scandal of the year!

And do you remember when in early 2009, Michelle Obama … wait for it … wore a sleeveless dress!!!  The horror of it all!!!  The republicans went nuts, and then later she was slammed for wearing, of all things, shorts while on vacation!!!  No matter what Ms. Obama did, she could not get it right, and she introduced one scandal after another!  She was criticized for having a bit of fun by challenging Ellen Degeneres to a push-up competition.  She was slammed for trying to make school lunches healthy.  Oh … would you like to compare Michelle Obama to Melania Trump?I could take you back throughout the history of this nation and find at least a few scandals in every single administration, but that is not my purpose tonight.  I will not even dwell on the incidents and events in the current administration that should well be considered scandals, but barely earn a roll of the eyes.  Suffice it to say that with all of Donald Trump’s affairs and the credible accusations of sexual misconduct against him, his administration has single-handedly re-defined morals, values and integrity.  And now this …

Trump Talks of Bringing Back Rob Porter, Aide Accused of Spousal Abuse

I first saw it in a tweet by Matt Dowd, and I thought, “Nah … never happen.”  But, I have always respected Dowd and never known him to be sensationalist, so … sigh … I went in search of, and sure enough, Donald Trump wants Porter to return to the fold.

The story in the New York Times gives the impression that Trump is feeling lonely, with so many of his close friends leaving his employ, and he longs for the ‘good old days’ when his buddy Rob Porter brought ‘structure’ {cough, choke, gasp} to the White House.  It is said that Trump used to spend two hours a day with him.  Well of course he did … they have much in common, such as complete disrespect for women!  I can just imagine some of the conversations they must have had!  And it is also said that since Porter’s departure, Trump has frequently called him and even discussed policy regarding tariffs with him.

Take a look at the people the “leader” of this nation supports and admires. First it was pedophile Roy Moore.  Then racist Joe Arpaio.  Then the KKK and neo-Nazis.  And now a wife-beater.

At what point do our elected representatives in Congress, democrat and republican, find their morals, their values, their integrity, and say “This is enough!!!”?  At what point do the Trump supporters, who are largely evangelical ‘Christians’, remember that they are supposed to believe sexual abuse, spousal abuse are wrong???

Compared to the lack of decency as defined any way you want to define it, John F. Kennedy’s frequent extra-marital affairs were child’s play.  The Bill Clinton/Monica Lewinski scandal was naught, yet he was impeached.  Think about that one.  I am not defending Bill Clinton, mind you, but he had consensual sex with an adult aide, and since he lied about it, he was impeached.  He didn’t go on national television and brag about how he could and did abuse women.  He did not have 16 women accusing him of sexual abuse.  He did not lie, cheat and steal while in the White House.  But yet, to this day, people on the right are more outraged by Bill Clinton than they are by the morally bankrupt clown sitting in the Oval Office.

It makes me wonder if those who support Donald Trump maybe, just maybe, deserve what they are getting.  Perhaps their morals, values and integrity have sunk as low as his.  Only problem is, the rest of us don’t deserve it.

  1. Dear Jill,

Way back in my past when I was more of a frequent traveler, President Trump would have been the poster image of the “ugly American” abroad which conjured up an image of a wealthy American who is la loud mouth braggart lacking in manners, sensibilities, and so on, but who threw his money around like it was candy.

But these are the same guys who would throw wild parties, thrash their hotel rooms, insult the staff and then they would try not to pay their bills. This was not a frequent successful maneuver.

    Hugs, Gronda

    • I think he IS the poster boy for the Ugly American … of all our non-U.S. readers, I do not know of a single one who has any respect for him. The leaders of our allied nations have no respect for him. We were the laughingstock of the world, until … they quit laughing and were simply disgusted. Hugs!!!

  2. I am seldom outraged by the clothes, these people wear. For politicians .Yet I am outraged by the lack of moral turpitudes and empathies.

To follow nilly willy an agenda of Republican or Democrat, is very humorous too. They all go to the same schools together and are often related. Similar or even the same policies and directions, are taken by either side. The bankers tell them what they want. Their job is to go forth and provide the results.

I am bemused by the term Alt. Right? What is that? The terms right or left are derived from the Russian Duma. Where the sides sat, against the Romanov Chair. The use when writing about domestic politics, has become overused.

A two party system lacks robustness. Even the notion that it is democratic, is hilarious. Now even the actual voting, by all accounts. Just makes the results easier to manipulate. Throw in hanging chads and bingo bang-o. Serious issues of lacks. Lack of representation, etc. Mr. Trump claimed he would drain the swamp? Hahaha! Alternative Right? Alternative Left? My head starts to spin.

As for the house of the President of the States, That White one. I would imagine much has gone on in there, that none of us know about? Supposedly Abraham Lincoln’s wife, Mary, was addicted to opium? Then there are the satanic relationships of Ben Franklin? The stench from the swamp permeates all.

Mr Sanders, probably should have been the Democrat candidate, in last Presidential election? Collusion prevented this? Now there is the real story. Cheers Jamie

    • I share your outrage at the lack of anything resembling morals or values in the current Washington climate.

Alt-right in this day, this nation, is nothing more than a name for white supremacy. They think it won’t be quite as odious to us if they dress it up in those terms, but as I said in a post last year, I refuse to use the term … I say call a spade a bloody shovel … they are naught but white supremacists, the worst sort of racists.

I’m sure we don’t even want to know all the things that have taken place in the White House over the years, but frankly, with the vermin that is currently occupying it, I think we should raze it once they are gone and start over, for I think we could never get the smell out after this.

Sanders would have, I believe, won the election and been president. I like Bernie Sanders and like most all of his ideas. There was only one problem. He could never have followed through on half his promises, for many were cost-prohibitive. Just like Donnie-boy’s stinkin’ wall!!! But all things being equal, I would certainly have voted for Bernie and would in 2020 if he runs, though I have concerns about his age.

      Cheers!!!

  3. “Morals, values and integrity.”..It may be all too difficult for some.
I just read an article about ethical workplace behavior and the person interviewed said that “if you can tell your kindergartner not to do it on the playground, you shouldn’t do it at work”
Maybe a similar statement can be used?

    • Makes perfect sense to me. But then, I remember more than once as a child, asking my mother why she was doing something she had told me NOT to do. Her response was always the same: “Do as I say, not as I do.” Perhaps that is the message of the Trump regime?

  4. Many years ago I was a humble clark in the civil service and the shirt and tie was essential, it was a stamp of respectability. That strange long piece of cloth that men wear around their necks stamped their character beyond doubt. We still see it among the leaders of our institutions and I still have this peculiar feeling that a well dressed man is a morally upright man. Lawyers wear whigs, a mark of honesty and brides white dresses for purity. The Beadle in Oliver Twist had buttons on his jacket decorated with the good samaritan ; the irony of Dickens and yet it is so true to life. In the recent flare up over Embassies ; I wonder what sort of men and women work in these places ? Just what sort of games are being played out among the world’s nations?

    • All of which just goes to prove that old adage that “you can’t judge a book by its cover”. Who knows what goes on in the embassies? I imagine it couldn’t be much worse than what goes on in the White House these days, but then … I might be surprised.

  5. Well said, Jill. Trump has violated the moral sensitivities of the nation and will continue to do so until the voters (or Special Counsel Mueller) stop him. Imagine! Bill Clinton being impeached for lying about dear Monica, and those same pompous asses are looking the other way when Trump acts immorally and then lies about it.

    • Sigh. I keep remembering that just over a year ago, we had Barack & Michelle … the epitome of dignity and grace, not a breath of scandal, and yet there are some bloomin’ fools who are still intent on criticizing the Obamas and saying how great Trump is!!! What a low we have sunken to.

        • Yes, waiting is tough … I have found myself to be a veritable grump for the past two weeks, and I know this is at least half the reason … every day it’s some new insult to our sensibilities. A lot of people seem to be perfectly capable of playing ostrich, but unfortunately I’m not one of them. My friend Mary tells me she wants me to take a week off from my blog and the news … but as she already knows, I cannot do that. I would go nuts. (No comment about me already being there! 🙂 ) And so yes, we will wait, but not sit idly by, for we will be working hard to make sure people understand what is at stake here! Hugs, my dear friend! It is people like you who make this all worthwhile!

          • Thanks for your kind words, Jill. Ever since the Blue Wave started forming last fall, I’ve taken a different attitude to the daily news of Trump’s antics. He is truly digging his own grave and that of his sycophants in Congress. Folks in his administration are bailing out each week, while others are forced out. He is the good ship Trumptanic and he’s headed for the iceberg – full steam ahead. I believe this. So, as upsetting as his behavior is to stomach, I think about how this is playing out among other voters who want it to stop. He is a narcissist. He is a megalomaniac. He won’t stop until he hits that iceberg November 6th. That makes me smile. Smile, Jill! Hugs!

  6. Jill, when I think of morality, integrity or values, the one name that does not come to mind is Donald Trump. I have been alive for twelve Presidents. I disagreed with some and one turned out to be criminally corrupt. But, the incumbent does not represent to others the character needed for the office and other country leaders do not trust him. • You are so right about that. For all his faults, Richard Nixon was ten times the leader Trump will ever be. Like you, I cannot remember one as poorly qualified to sit in the Oval Office, to lead this nation, as Trump. I lose sleep when I think of exactly where he is leading the nation. And some keep blindly following. Sigh.

I fully agree … WE DO NOT DESERVE THIS!!

    • That pretty much sums it up. I saw a headline this morning saying that Fox is demanding those who are reporting on the Stormy Daniels’ interview should have to give equal time to Bill Clinton’s affairs. A) Bill Clinton is not president any more, and hasn’t been for many years, and B) His affairs were well-covered back in their day. I was never so sick of hearing about anything as that fribbin’ blue dress! At least three lawyers have turned down the “opportunity” to serve on Trump’s legal team in the past week or so. What does that tell you? And lawyers aren’t typically known for their morals! 😀 And to think, just over a year ago we had grace and dignity without a breath of scandal in the White House. Sure didn’t take long to go from National Geographic to Playboy, did it?
