Sunday One (or two) Liners …

It is Sunday morning, and I have promised to make a nice brunch for my family.  And then I must wash my daughter’s uniforms, because otherwise she will have no pants to wear to work tomorrow.  And so, I do not have a lot of time and am going with just a few brief snippets this morning that I came across while trolling the news.

Pinocchio x2

I frequently wonder about the physical and mental well-being of republicans in Congress.  Turns out I am right to be concerned.  Take, for instance, Ohio’s representative Jim Jordan, who told Anderson Cooper last week that he has never heard Trump tell a lie.  “I’ve never heard the president… He’s always been square with me, that’s for darn sure.”  When asked to think harder, he contemplated for a moment, then said, “I don’t know of it.  Nothing comes to mind.”  This man is not only deaf, but also not too smart and does not belong in Congress!

Aliens, Anyone?

In Florida, Bettina Rodriguez Aguilera is looking to replace retiring Miami Republican Representative Ileana Ros-Lehtinen.  Aguilera may fit right in with the current batch in Congress, for she already lives in a world of fantasy.  Ms. Aguilera says she’s been aboard a spaceship crewed by aliens. As in extraterrestrials, not Mexicans. Three blond, big-bodied beings — two females, one male — visited her when she was 7 years old and have communicated telepathically with her several times in her life.  Among other things, she claims to know …

  • There are 30,000 skulls — “different from humans” — in a cave in the Mediterranean island of Malta.
  • The world’s “energy center” is in Africa.
  • The Coral Castle, a limestone tourist attraction South Miami-Dade, is actually an ancient Egyptian pyramid.

Great … well, as I said, she will fit right in with the others who claim that Trump is an honest and decent man … just about as much a stretch of the imagination as alien abductions.

Re-writing History?

Presumably on Trump’s orders, the Department of Homeland Security has removed 12 reports from FEMA’s (Federal Emergency Management Agency) website.  Rather like removing the phrase “climate change” from the EPA’s website, don’t you think?  The reports?  They were primarily positive evaluations of FEMA’s operations during the tenure of President Obama.  Go figure.  I wonder if the next generation, or the one after, will be able to believe anything they read about President Obama in their history books?

Trickle-Down Didn’t Trickle

First quarter reports on U.S. economic growth showed a distinct slowing of such growth.  Why?  Because consumer spending slowed to a pace not seen since 2013.  Now wait … weren’t those ‘tax cuts’ supposed to encourage people to go out and spend more money?  What happened, Donnie?

According to an article in Reuters, “Consumer spending in the last quarter was undercut by a decline in purchases of motor vehicles, clothing and footwear as well as a slowdown in food and beverages outlays.”

Hmmm … who could have predicted this?  Oh wait … I did!!!!

A footnote here … while most working people say they are seeing little, if any, difference in their paychecks, America’s biggest banks are boasting record profits.  Think about that one … more on this later.

“I would rather have the popular vote because it’s, to me, it’s much easier to win the popular vote.” – Donald Trump

Trump now says he wants to get rid of the electoral college – the very tool that put him in the Oval Office – as it is much easier to win the popular vote.  If it’s so bloomin’ easy, then why did he lose the popular vote to Hillary Clinton by nearly 3 million votes???

Where is that doctor who supposedly declared him mentally fit?  Oh … yeah …

Shut up, Public!!!

Mick Mulvaney, acting director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) says that he is considering removing the agency’s database of consumer complaints from public view.  His excuse is that he claims it contains information that has not been vetted by the bureau and could be used unfairly against financial institutions.

Awwwww … gee golly gosh … we certainly wouldn’t wish to be unfair to the very institutions that caused the financial crisis of 2007-2008 now, would we.  We The People, after all, are not smart enough to understand that information and make our own judgments, just like Trump said we aren’t smart enough to understand his tax returns, so he just kept them private.

Well, now that I’ve managed to either make you chuckle or growl on this fine Sunday afternoon, I shall go make some mini-quiche and pancakes for my girls!  I hope you all enjoy a wonderful, relaxing Sunday afternoon!

      • Good grief! I crab if I have to do five plus towels and sheets… Can’t even imagine, Jill. But then I haven’t had to do large batches for awhile. Since I was working two jobs when the kids hit junior high, I promptly taught them to do their own laundry. One of the biggest helps I ever had.

        • Hah!!! My girls would be happy to help, but … well, I am OCD and nobody … NOBODY does laundry to suit me, so … sigh … I just do it myself. In truth, I don’t mind laundry nearly as much as I mind cleaning bathtubs!!! 😀

          • I finally had to break down and have American Housekeeping come in once a month to clean from top to bottom. There’s a lot I still can’t do when it comes to cleaning. But it does seem to stay fairly clean with even a once-a-month visit. The bathroom was a REAL problem for me, too.

            • That’s a good solution … once-a-month outside help. Sometimes the bending, kneeling, stretching … I think, “I’m too old for all this!” Our house would stay much cleaner were it not for the Significant Seven, especially now that they are in shedding season! 🐱

  1. Dear Jill,

I just pray that there are more republicans like Bettina Rodriguez Aguilera running to be elected officials. If they win THE REPUBLICANS REAP THEIR JUST DESSERTS but more democrats will win against candidates like her.

It’s obvious that the GOP members do not get the concept of transparency. There is no good excuse for Mick Mulvaney of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) deciding to remove the agency’s database of consumer complaints from public view.

It is bad enough that the GOP in the US Congress lied about future GDP growth in the US exceeding 3% because of their tax cuts, to where they are now pushing us toward another 2008 recession with their lack of oversight of financial institutions’ misdeeds.

Wells Fargo was recently fined over a billion dollars for its wrong doing which is just the cost of doing business. Wells Fargo made over $6 billion dollars in the 1st quarter of this year.

    Hugs, Gronda

    • If Trump & Congress stay on the path they are on, there is no doubt in my mind that we are going to see a number of things leading up to, at the very least, an economic recession. The rescinding of a portion of Dodd-Frank was utter lunacy. As we have seen by Wells-Fargo, the banks and lenders will NOT police themselves. The jobs numbers are slowing and preparing to make a U-turn, and the stock market cannot remain where it is for long, for it is resting on a very shaky foundation. Trump is a fool with no knowledge whatsoever of how economies work, and he is letting greed and other greedy people drive his decisions. Hugs!!!!

  2. Seeing as the popular vote next Presidential election will be decided by Russia, Devastation Tornado has no worries over who will win. This is what he is telling us…

Or is it that he knows there will never be another presidential election, and he will be declaring himself President-for-Life before November 2020.

Take your choice, either way America loses…

    • YIPPEEEEE!!! YAHOOOOO!!!! My friend rawgod is on the mend, for he is back to creating … I forget what they are called offhand … but YES!!! I am happy to hear you refer to Devastation Tornado!

I, too have said that if he is still in office in 2020, there may well be no election, for he may pull an Erdogan and create a national security emergency making himself supreme dictator. Some believe me, some don’t. I doubt I’ll be here to care. Good to see you are making a comeback, my dear friend. I’ve been worried about you!

      • Thank you for your concern, Ms Filosopha, it has helped me towards getting my sanity back. I am not “there” yet, but at least I am seeing the end of the tunnel, I hope…
As for Devil’s Tweeter, I wished he would take his Damaged Tongue and head back under that Deletive Textpeated he came out from under!

        • Oh yeah … you are making up for lost time!!!! But seriously, dear friend … I am so happy to see you more like your old self … I was worried. And thank you for saying I helped, even if only a bit, for it makes me feel good, brings a smile to this tired old face. Just keep on doing whatever has been helping you, and if you skip some of my posts to stay out of dark places … know that I understand and approve. Your well-being matters to me.

      • By the way, is there a name for what I do? Really? I just think of it as playing with words and sound. I thought I had used up my quota of of Damning Taptoeing, but I guess there are a few more yet to be found…

        Liked by 1 person

        • Yeah, there is a name for it, but for the life of me I cannot come up with it at the moment … my brain has some rattles these days and likely needs a shot of WD-40! Yes, it would seem you have found an entire new treasure trove of them! I think we need to start a dictionary of them … I may have to go back and find some of the older ones … wish I had thought of this sooner … 🙂

    • Now THAT may well be the highest compliment I have ever received! I am so glad you found your way here. Thank you, Ellen, for such high praise. Eat your heart out, New York Times!!! 😉

  3. People need to get more up in arms about these idiots (and many more like them) than about Michelle Wolf’s appearance last night. As I said on FB, agree or disagree with how she did it, she did her job – she is a comedian NOT a journalist – what’s DT’s excuse?

    Liked by 1 person

    • I agree! In another time, I would have been one to criticize Ms. Wolf’s performance, but I find that I cannot, for it is merely a response to what Trump & Co have unleashed. But … it is a sad statement of our nation, and I only hope the infection does not spread across our northern border to you guys. Sigh. I … have ’bout had all … have ’bout had enough, but … what choice is there but to stay and fight to … what? His end, or ours?
