Just a short addendum to this afternoon’s post, for I have one more ‘two thumbs’ to give this evening. This one is to Governor Larry Hogan of Maryland. Governor Hogan has joined Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker in bringing his National Guard troops home from the Mexican border in protest of “the inhumane treatment of children”.
Several democratic governors, including Governor Ralph Northam of Virginia have done the same, but Governors Hogan and Baker are both republicans, so this was truly an act of courage for them! Two thumbs up for the courage of the states to have more humanity and compassion than the ‘man’ in the Oval Office! 👍👍

Dear Jill,
This is one time that even republicans in the US Congress revolted. This was a first. This is thanks to all who called our legislators, protesters and whoever shared that tape with the children crying which frankly was only too real.
This was democracy at work.
Hugs, Gronda

We live in hope that Congress will put an end to Trump’s inhumane Zero Tolerance policy at the Mexico border, but it sounds like any legislative solution must have funding for Trump’s Wall – or he won’t sign it. I don’t know if enough Dems are willing to hold their noses and vote for such a bill. Hugs, Jill.

I am torn. On the one hand, the policy is an abomination, the abuse of these children is criminal and inhumane and must STOP. On the other hand, I do not want democrats to give in on funding for the wall, for it is a useless waste of money AND … Trump is demanding $25 billion now, but by all reasonable estimates, the total cost will come in around $75 billion. So, once he wins round one, then the next argument is, “well, you have to give me the other $50 billion, for we already have $25 billion invested …” There is no easy answer, but we cannot cave to the whims of a 73-year-old spoiled brat.

It looks like the Dems won’t have to cave in on the wall – Trump already caved in on the separation of families. We’ll see what happens. This particular issue may assure the Dems of a Blue Wave vote in November!

Reblogged this on Musings on Life & Experience and commented:
Some of the state governors are showing courage in protesting the inhumane treatment of immigrating families along the border. They’re calling their National Guard troops back.

Yay to all the Governors who have taken this decision but more so to the Republicans who have shown common decency where the world was beginning to think none existed. I’m sure the guardsmen are relieved. I hope these states can get their representatives in Congress to work towards an end to this.

It seems that the republicans in Congress are beginning to either a) find a bit of a heart, a bit of conscience, or b) realize that people are enraged by this policy and understand that it could help their career to move toward putting a stop to it. Either way, let us hope this ends soon. The backlash is almost guaranteed to anger Trump even more, and who knows where that will lead. But for tonight, I am pleased to see even some republicans taking a stand against this unnecessary harm to so many children.

As I told Gronda, I don’t believe for one minute that Mitch McConnell has suddenly grown a pair. The governors may have acted independently ( and good for them) but I believe Trump has told his lapdog to clear this up with the Democrats because he doesn’t like the backlash and the negative image worldwide but he never backs down.No doubt he’ll be looking for a way to blame the Democrats for the whole mess.

Is there a small cloud on America’s horizon rising to water a land parched for common decency and humanity? Amazing how some eyes are opened when America’s modus operandi happens at home, not in Vietnam, Cambodia, Nicaragua, Iraq, Afghanistan and pretty much anywhere ‘ Uncle Sam’ maintains a corporate presence backed by ‘his’ ubiquitous military.

Maybe in the face of unreasonable adversity, we’ll all turn into better people.
