Open Letter to Members of the U.S. Congress

Dear Members of Congress …

Once again, I am compelled on behalf of the citizens of this nation to ask you to please do the jobs you swore to do when you took that oath of office and swore to uphold the U.S. Constitution.  I urge you to recall, if you will, that Donald Trump is not your employer … We The People are, in fact, your employers.  As such, we are very concerned when we hear Trump threaten to interfere with the business of the Department of Justice, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and most importantly, the Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russia’s influence into our election process in 2016.

Never before in the history of this nation has there been such corruption as we have seen these past 19 months, not even during the Watergate scandal, which pales in comparison to Trumpgate.  If Donald Trump is allowed to continue his worrisome tirades unchecked, there is a very real possibility that we will never know the truth about what happened and who was involved. In that case, elections may well never be fair and honest again in this nation.

There is already more than ample evidence that there was communication and camaraderie between Russian officials and members of the Trump family & campaign, and yet when he calls the investigation a “witch hunt”, you turn a blind eye.  We the People have not only a right, but also a responsibility to find out the truth and act accordingly.  YOU … the members of the legislative branch, the people who are supposed to provide the “checks and balances” on the executive power, certainly have a responsibility to ensure that the facts, the truth, comes out.  Thus far, you have not done the job for which you are being paid!

I, on behalf of every citizen of this nation, call on you today to introduce and pass bi-partisan legislation protecting the integrity of the Attorney General Jeff Sessions, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, and Special Counsel Robert Mueller.  For once in your term in office, please do the bidding of the people who voted you into office and whose hard-earned tax dollars are feeding your children.  This is, quite possibly, your last opportunity to do the right thing.

Sincerely,

We The People of the United States of America

  1. Dear Jill,

I so appreciate your letter. On Tuesday, I’ll be tweeting this letter to everyone of the republican US senators. They need to come out of their bubble to face how upset most Americans are with their failure to do their duty by honoring their oaths of office. History will judge them harshly.

    Hugs, Gronda

    • Thank you so much, Gronda! I sense that our lawmakers stopped listening to us last year … either that, or they cannot hear us over the loud, obnoxious voice of Trump. But we have to keep trying, inundating them with our pleas and demands, letting them know that the party WILL end someday. I appreciate you sharing my letter! Hugs!!!

  2. In relatively short space of time America seems to have gone from being a Democracy to a dictatorship where when word comes from on high to Jump. the Senate and the House ask How High? Trump seems to be treating the constitution as his own private preserve able to do as he wishes with it whilst his followers bow down before a brazen idol (for he certainly is not golden). How long can the people from both sides bear to see this sullen man lie to them and twist information to suit himself. Now is the time for those elected by the people to act in the interests of the people. The half-terms are a chance to take out those not interested in governing for the people but interested only in gathering power to themselves. This is how it appears to non US citizens, that Russia wills Trump to stay on top and Trump colludes to make sure it happens.

    • Yes, only 19 months he’s been in office, and yet he has done more damage than most presidents do in 4-8 years. Why? Because he has no desire to be an advocate of and for the people, but rather only to line his own pockets and increase both his wealth and power. As to how long we will be able to put up with this … good question. Suicide rates are on the rise in every state in this country. Alcohol sales are up. If we don’t make a significant change in November, we may not get another chance. Sigh.

  3. Jill, in John McCain’s book “The Restless Wave,” written last fall and winter, he said these House Republicans are making up a conspiracy against Trump, while ignoring a real life conspiracy by Vladimir Putin to harm our democracy. As McCain said, this is not about party, it is about Americans recognizing who the enemy is. Keith

    • Do you remember my old antagonist, James Singer? I’ve been blocking his comments, for he is a nutcase, has disrespected both myself and my readers, and is vulgar, to boot. He quit commenting for a while, but tonight has left about 6 that went to Spam. Anyway, he posted that the “left” is engaging in the worst conspiracy ever to bring down Trump, and that the media are promoting it and that it has created the greatest “mass hysteria” since the McCarthyism. He goes on and on … he, and obviously many others are … convinced that they are right. McCain was right … there is a conspiracy and it starts with a Trump/Putin alliance. I am about ready for this nation to return to sanity!!! Sigh.

      • Jill, we have known all along this would only get worse as more comes out. The narrative that I am hearing and reading in comments is their is a propaganda operation against Trump, with the media and Democrats behind it.

There are now six Trump related guilty pleas or verdicts. The fact that there are so many “you got me” guilty pleas and one set of guilty verdicts against Manafort is indicative. One thing the Manafort/ Cohen day of reckoning is clear. This ain’t no witch hunt. The numbers are turning on Trump with a 60% disapproval rate which includes a 53% “strongly” disapproval rate. • I know … that is what I don’t understand … how can some keep their blinders on and proclaim that Trump has done nothing wrong after Manafort’s conviction and Cohen’s confessions? Do facts not matter to these people? Are they really so blind, or are they just determined to keep Trump in office?
