Most of you know that I don’t watch many movies … never have. First, I cannot sit still for a full two hours without doing something, and second, I do not hear well, and so rarely understand dialog unless it is closed-captioned, and then I am so busy reading captions that I am not seeing the movie. So instead, I read books. There are, however, a few notable exceptions. Early in my teen years, came a movie, The Unsinkable Molly Brown, starring Debbie Reynolds, and in part based on the sinking of the Titanic. It was among my favourite movies, and I have been fascinated by the story of the Titanic (as well as the Lusitania) ever since. So, in 1997 when the movie Titanic, starring Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio came out … I waited for the closed-captioned video and late one Saturday night, I lay in bed watching it. The one song that has stuck with me from the movie is My Heart Will Go On. Molly Brown made an appearance in this one too, only played by Kathy Bates of Stephen King’s Dolores Claiborne fame.
My Heart Will Go On
Celine Dion
Every night in my dreams
I see you, I feel you
That is how I know you go on
Far across the distance
And spaces between us
You have come to show you go on
Near, far, wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more you open the door
And you’re here in my heart
And my heart will go on and on
Love can touch us one time
And last for a lifetime
And never let go till we’re gone
Love was when I loved you
One true time I hold to
In my life we’ll always go on
Near, far, wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more you open the door
And you’re here in my heart
And my heart will go on and on
You’re here, there’s nothing I fear
And I know that my heart will go on
We’ll stay forever this way
You are safe in my heart and
My heart will go on and on
Songwriters: James Horner / Will Jennings

I knowevery word of that movie by heart. I fell in love with Jack..and Leo. One of my collection now. And I LOVED The Unsinkable Molly Brown. Debbie Reynolds was so awesome. I miss her. Tammy and the Bachelor. 😊💕

Hah! As I was writing the blurb-intro for that song, I thought of you and just somehow KNEW that you would have seen that! I loved Debbie Reynolds in almost everything she did, including Halloweentown in ’98! They just don’t make ’em like that anymore!

No they don’t. She was one classy lady. Molly Brown would have been honored to have seen her in the role, I imagine.

I always loved this song…movie too, although I thought de Caprio was miscast.
An excellent movie…no music, is Philomena..true story..Judi Dench..highlights Catholic orphanages and a gay republican under, I believe, under Bush administration.

At the beginning of the movie, I also thought DiCaprio miscast, but as the movie progressed, he seemed more ‘right’ for the part. Philomena … if memory serves, that was based on a true story?

Yes.. a gay man during the Republican administration and the intertwined story of the bad of Catholic orphanages. Very moving move and superb acting.

I never saw this film, but had a friend whose ex dragged him to see the whole 3 hour or so thing more than six times. I haven’t seen anything like this since The Poseidon Adventure, and that was enough for me. That also had a famous theme song, There’s got to Be A Morning After–

Hah! I have never known a man who would consent to see a film 6 times just because his wife liked it! I loved the Poseidon Adventure, though it gave me nightmares for weeks after … I kept waking up thinking my room was upside down!

Not my favourite warbler by any means but she does this song beautifully. Some people say she sings the definitive Power of Love but I maintain Jennifer Rush does it best and with more feeling.

You’re not going to believe this … well, maybe knowing me you will … but I never heard of Jennifer Rush until you mentioned her. I did go listen to her version of Power of Love, and I can certainly see why you love it … it is powerful. But I remain partial to Huey Lewis and the News’ version, likely only because the first time I heard the song was when I saw Back to the Future! 😉

I like Huey Lewis too but it’s not the same song, just the same title isn’t it?
