A Bit Of This And A Bit Of That …

Trump thinks Ivanka would be great to replace Nikki Haley.

“So nice, everyone wants Ivanka Trump to be the new United Nations Ambassador. She would be incredible, but I can already hear the chants of Nepotism!” Trump tweeted on Friday morning.  He later re-iterated, saying she would be “incredible,” and that there is “nobody more competent”.  And just what, pray tell, are her qualifications?  Oh wait … Nikki Haley had no qualifications for the job, either. But at least she had government experience, having served six years each as Governor of South Carolina and a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives, and until she drank the Trump Kool Aid, she had some good sense.  Ivanka has … well, let’s see … she owns a company that daddy bought her whereby she uses overseas sweatshop labour to manufacture ugly clothing that she sells for an outrageous price.  Oh, and she’s married to a shyster real estate ‘tycoon’ who doesn’t pay taxes.  Oh yeah … everybody must surely want her to represent us at the United Nations.Ivanka-toon.png

Ol’ Duncan Hunter … back in the news again.

Remember Duncan Hunter?  He’s been on my radar off and on for nearly two years, but the latest was last month when I wrote that he had been caught and indicted on charges of using a quarter of a million dollars in campaign funds for personal expenses.  And then he had the gall to blame it all on his wife!  Well, I guess when you’re caught with your hand in the cookie jar, one thing you can do is start pointing fingers at others.  But his latest antic is a real piece of work.  He has accused his Democratic challenger for the upcoming mid-terms, one Ammar Campa-Najjar, of being a Palestinian terrorist who is trying to “infiltrate” Congress.  No, I swear I’m not making it up!  My imagination isn’t that good!

He produced a television ad that claims …

“Ammar Campa-Najjar is working to infiltrate Congress. He’s used three different names to hide his family’s ties to terrorism. His grandfather masterminded the Munich Olympic massacre. His father said they deserved to die. … ‘He is being supported by CAIR and the Muslim Brotherhood.’ ‘This is a well-orchestrated plan.’ Ammar Campa-Najjar: A risk we can’t ignore.”

And …

“He changed his name from Ammar Yasser Najjar to Ammar Campa-Najjar so he sounds Hispanic. … So his signs could actually say Joseph Campa or, or something. That is how hard, by the way, that the radical Muslims are trying to infiltrate the U.S. government. You had more Islamists run for office this year at the federal level than ever before in U.S. history.”

The Washington Post Fact Checker to the rescue:

  • Campa-Najjar is a Christian born and raised in San Diego
  • His grandfather died years before he was born
  • His father wasn’t around much and that Campa-Najjar was raised by his mother and her Mexican American family
  • Campa-Najjar obtained a security clearance for his past work in the Obama White House and the Labor Department

The conclusion:

This ad uses naked anti-Muslim bias in an effort to scare Californians into voting for an indicted Republican incumbent.

The Democrat on the receiving end of these attacks isn’t even Muslim. All the claims in the ad are false, misleading or devoid of evidence.

Mike Pompeo has a heart, but it’s very, very tiny.tiny heartThe policy of the United States has long been to grant visas to partners of foreign diplomats serving in the U.S., even when those relationships are not recognized by their home countries, such as is sometimes the case with LGBT couples.  In July, the U.S. mission to the United Nations informed foreign delegations that beginning Oct. 1, the State Department would no longer issue G-4 visas to same-sex partners of foreign diplomats and U.N. officials who are not legally married.

There are 69 countries around the world that criminalize same-sex relationships, and in 10 countries, LGBT couples face the death penalty for their orientation.  Last week, 119 House Democrats sent a letter to Pompeo protesting the policy change.  Let’s hope he listens, though I’m not holding my breath.  This is a step backward in U.S. Civil Rights, not to mention Human Rights … and a loud statement of Pompeo’s views of the LGBT community.

  1. Dear Jill,

Fortunately, even President Trump (Daddy) wasn’t buying this trial balloon of his daughter Ivanka taking Nikki Haley’s spot as the US ambassador to the United Nations.

As for Duncan Hunter, I hope his slander against Campa Najjar costs him, politically, bigly.

Mike Pompeo had better find his heart soon, as most Americans when informed, would be against this 10/1/18 US policy that the State Department would no longer issue G-4 visas to same-sex partners of foreign diplomats and U.N. officials who are not legally married.

I feel sorry for Kanye West as he has obviously lost his mind.

    Hugs, Gronda

    • Duncan Hunter obviously needs to be placed on a deserted island somewhere, and as far as I’m concerned, Mike Pompeo and John Bolton can go along with him. Oh wait … there are a few hundred more I would send, starting with the jerk-face in the Oval Office! And I totally agree with your comment about Kanye West! Bloomin’ eejit!!!

  2. “One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors.” – Plato. You never disappoint me, I knew that the “Ivanka for United Nations Ambassador” would be impossible for you to ignore! Nepotism, why would anyone think that? When has the small issue of qualifications deterred Trump, he does not possess any for his job either?! Duncan Hunter is a dangerous man and fits well within Trump’s criteria for those in the hallowed halls of Congress. Mike Pompeo, and many other of Trump’s sycophants, have empty spaces that were once occupied by a heart…now occupied by just an empty muscle pumping blood. Thank-you!

    • That quote by Plato is so very true! History is filled with examples of it. There are just so many who are highly UN-qualified for their jobs … it shouldn’t even cause me to bat an eye anymore, but it still does. Duncan Hunter is likely not long for the House, as I look for him to be ousted next month … but as we both know, I’ve been wrong before 😉

By the way … Gronda changed her settings and you should now be able to comment on her posts, although I understand that you will be asked to sign in each time. Hope that helps!

  3. The only way that Donald Trump can be powerful is by having his “cronies”, his “smoochers” in a position, in high places, to govern for him… his ego demands that he is control and without those in power he is nothing but arrogant, boisterous bully… they are like a cancer, removing Trump from power may stop the spread but it is not the cure… 🙂

    • You are so right … removing Trump will at this point would only open the door for another … perhaps one with a functioning brain, who would be even more dangerous. The thing that is needed, however, is to educate his followers, to show them. And that has been shown to be impossible. Ergo … this train wreck will have to run its course, for only when his base feels the pain of the results of his tax cuts for the wealthy and his tariffs, will they perchance wake up. I like the Hendrix quote … I wonder if that will ever happen?

      • Well, it may not seem like it now, but there is change taking place throughout the land… it may not be as quick as one would like, but it is happening and Trump and like thinkers are like the “drowning man grabbing at straws”… as long as good people like you are making their voices heard change will come.. it may not seem like it but there are many listening to your voice… 🙂

When in doubt, join Frank and the gang… 🙂

        • Thank you for your encouragement … sometimes I need that. But thank you most of all for the song!!! I actually catch myself singing that one every now and then … I love it! I remember the movie A Hole in the Head that featured this song. Thanks, Dutch! You’ve made me smile!

  4. Talking about mind bounce…. As I was struggling to wakefulness, I heard the Sunday morning opinion piece on BBC radio 4…. I wish I could provide a link of transcript…
Whoever it was, it is the first time that I have heard anyone denigrate the President of the US in such a public space. The whole tirade (opinion) sited DT and his puppet judge Brett Kavanaugh, as examples the most corrupt denizens of power ever seen in Society. That actually woke me up. From this person’s point of view, you now have the most immoral, corrupt people in the world, now running the show. Worse than all others out there. I think that is a new low.

    • Hmmmm … I shall go in search of that transcript, for it definitely sounds interesting. It’s time for the Europeans to get angry, for what he does affects the entire globe, not just the U.S. Rather like some other disastrous leaders from history that I have named in the past. It may not be a new low, but it is certainly the lowest we have sunk in the past 70 years or so.

    • I have often referred to this as a ‘topsy-turvy’ world and one that I no longer recognize. Even on your side of the pond, things are turned upside-down, although I give Ms. May a lot more credit for intelligence and compassion than I do Trump. In our world today, up is down, right is wrong, and grey skies are the norm. There’s a reason why 1984 is once again a bestseller!

  5. It’s all so crazy! At this point, nothing he says or does can surprise me! Ivanka as our Ambassador to the U:N.? Makes perfect sense to him …. because he is out of his mind! He is ….The Mad King!!!!
I’m still in Texas…. caring for family who is ill, but texting for Gillum from my cell phone. Every time he did something that I knew was illegal or immoral, I was sure he was going to be impeached, then imprisoned! But, now I know …he is impervious to the laws and rules that once governed our nation. Evil is prevailing! Don’t know…. what the election holds in store for us, but with all the voter suppression going on…. it doesn’t look good! He has never been held accountable…. NEVER!!!!!

    • Hey Patty! I am so sorry that your sister is ill, but she is lucky to have you to care for her.

No, as I predicted some time ago, he won’t be impeached and the odds of him ever seeing the inside of a prison cell are slim, although it isn’t impossible. I think we need to focus on each step of the process of getting him out of office, and the first step right now is re-taking a majority in one or both chambers of Congress in the mid-terms next month. The next step after that is to rein him in and hold him accountable for his actions. And we go from there.

Keep working for Gillum … that is so very important and you’re giving it your all! I hope your sister will be okay soon. Thinking of you, my friend! ❤

  6. Ivanka……it’s a sign of the times, it could be worse…………. Bolton (busy getting fitted for a new designer straight-jacket) could be let loose again. It might work, imagine everything getting side-tracked into debate about fashionable sweaters and various powers transferring their military budgets into clothing industry…..In a world where Trump gets to be President, the UK does Brexit and eastern European folk think Hitler was a ‘good thing’, it could happen.
This guy Duncan Hunter? Err….Perhaps they should cordon off the tree he keep climbing up to fall out of again.

    • The world has gone just a little bit crazy, hasn’t it my friend? Nothing should surprise me anymore, but it still does. I still shake my head each morning as I check the news to see what the latest disaster is. As re ol’ Duncan? I’m thinking to truss him, put him in a crate and ship him to you guys to do with as you will. 😉

            Quite forsworn……
No I’m really in a sour mood, I can manage headlines and that’s about it, anything else and I’d go ballistic. Brexit, Johnson, Trump, the populist movements of Europe and the uselessness of the Labour Party are more than my slim patience can stand these days.🤬🤬🤬
FB just gets a nod in case my son or daughter have put entries on, otherwise I’m in lockdown.
It’s book, hobbies, history, comic books WP and Netflix for me at present.

Cheew up Uncle Woger … We Love You! You want we should make a mess so gwammie yells and you can laugh? 😻😻😻😻😻😻
Smile, my friend … read the good people post this morning … it will warm your heart.

              • Aww thank you guys. No, you mustn’t make a mess. Why don’t you all find your ‘inner kittens’ and do cute things instead 😺😺😺😺😺😺?
I will visit The Wednesday ‘Good People’ post today Jill.
(PS what I need is a dose of science radio programmes, always good for perspectives)

                  • Aww, they remind me of a cat from one of our across the road neighbours. He was named ‘Smudge’ and took a fancy to us. So there I would be in the back garden and I would hear this cute little kitten meow behind me. There would be long, lean, scarred, one-eyed, old tom, Smudge. How he pulled that ‘cute’ trick I’ll never know…anyway after butting his head against me and depositing fur on my trouser legs, he would then stretch out in the sun and, of course, doze. 😸.

And tomorrow I must stock up on science downloads for my mp3 player.

                    • Smudge sounds like our late Tofu … He was a good-size cat, missing a leg from an argument with a car that he lost, but when he meowed, it sounded like a tiny kitten. On the other hand, our little Boo, who is 3 years old, but very small, can literally screech like a banshee … and does whenever Miss Goose is out of his sight. 😀 As much of a pain as they are, I have to admit they are also fun and lovable … even Tiger. 😼
