GOP Is Making Up Conspiracy Theories/ Lies About Caravan Of Immigrants To Cater To His Base

When I read about Trump claiming there is another caravan of immigrants headed this way from Central America, that he has alerted the military, that he considers them a threat to national security, and furthermore that he thinks the democrats funded the caravan, I sighed and said under my breath, “Here we go again, and just two weeks before the election. Distractions, smoke screens and lies, lies, lies … more of the same ol’ same ol’.” And then I sighed again, for I knew I would need to write about this, though I did not want to. And then … it was Gronda to the rescue!!! Her fine post says all that I would have said, and probably even more.
I cannot repeat enough how important it is that we get this message out … there is no threat to national security from a group of people, mainly women and children, coming to the U.S. in hopes of surviving, in hopes of an opportunity to work hard to make a better life for their children. Please take time to read Gronda’s post, for she successfully de-bunks the lies that Mr. Trump is attempting to use to distract the voters in two weeks. Many thanks, Gronda, for writing the post that needed to be written!

We have heard all the lies being disseminated by the republican President Donald J. Trump that the there’s the real possibility that leftist groups have sponsored the caravan of refugees/ immigrants that are fleeing the violent ridden country of Honduras via Guatemala heading towards Mexico and then to the USA, to ask for asylum which is supposed to be a legal action.

The president knows that the vision of brown refugees, the majority being women and children on a bridge from Guatemala to Mexico scares the anti-immigration faction of his base to where he has to pander to their fear by painting many of them as being criminals, claims which past credible studies have proven to be way overstated.

Recently, he was heard saying that they are coming to the US, so that they can vote for Democratic Party candidates, which he knows full well is NOT TRUE. They. as…

  1. It’s a repeat of the struggle of the poor and destitute to get into Europe and it will become a global problem unless something positive is done about inequality and climate. As for Mr Trump he needs reminding of his Christian principles he is surrounded by Christian supporters do they know the Gospel

    • You are right … and sadly Trump understands NONE of it, but is only interested in that which directly affects him. As for his Christian values … he has none, and his Christian supporters seem perfectly willing to re-write, or re-interpret their own to somehow make him fit. My fear is that there will be blood shed at the border, and it will rest squarely on Trump’s shoulders, though his base will never admit it and will likely love him even more.

      • Dare I suggest Mr Trump would do well to model himself on Angela Merkel a believing Lutheran Christian who said ; ‘ Germany suffers not from too much Islam but too little Christianity ‘ . While he is at this reformation he could learn Russian which Mrs Merkel speaks fluently.

  2. Hi Jill,
I put this on Gronda’s blog, but I am not sure it got there, so I will say it simply here. Trump is the one paying the caravaners, paying them so he can be strong to his Trum-Pets and crush them at the border. Don’t be surprised is he gives the order to fire on them, they are puppets to him, not people!

    • I have wondered about his cult, especially the gun nut types, and white supremacy groups going down there also with their own weapons. And how much of the military would support this and the use of force, deadly force, on innocent disparate people.

      • The military are the ones that bother me, they are brainwashed into obeying orders, but would they obey such an obviously insane order? I hope, as a human being, they would not. But remember Kent State, and the riots in Detroit and Los Angeles and elsewhere, national guardsmen fired at fellow Americans. Firing on non-Americans would be all too easy. Remember My Lai. We can only hope that sane people prevail. But these days, who are the sane?
As for the gun nuts, etc., if they use lethal force, there are a lot of outcomes I hope happen to them, outcomes I will not discuss here. I’ll hold my tongue until we see what reality brings.

    • I would not be one bit surprised if he gave a ‘shoot to kill’ order. There is also talk that he plans to re-initiate his policy of taking children from their parents. And you are so right … they are not humans to him, but then … neither are we. Sigh.

      • Hopefully the separation of kids from parents is just rumour, but time will tell. Yeah, I think he sees himself as the only real human in the world. Everyone else is just a plaything.

  3. Jill, in the Trump Party, the truth is less relevant. So, making up wedge issues is normative behavior. When I left the GOP over ten years ago, one of the reasons was a tendency to make things up. Both parties need to be more truthful, but even before Trump, the GOP was far more untruthful. Now, with Trump, the lying is not even close. Dems should continue to drive home facts around key issues. The GOP deserves every criticism on healthcare, guns , environment, civil rights, and debt. They have also been cold hearted in handling immigration. Trunp wants to cut funding to Central America which will cause more migration not less. Keith

    • When I stop and think about the dishonesty and corruption within the GOP, particularly within the administration, I am more angry at the people who voted these cheaters into office. The people who fall for the lies, or perhaps choose to accept them at face value, even knowing them for the lies they are, have taken our lives into their hands with their ignorance, their unwillingness to try to understand the actual issues & potential effects. And now, after nearly two years of Trump, those same people are claiming righteous indignation and are still 100% in Trump’s corner, not caring a whit what his policies are doing not only to the U.S., but around the world.

  4. The idea here is to fan the flames of fear and hope that hides the corruption that will surely take place. And if the “wrong” people are elected in November, Trump will claim “foul” (which is true, but not in the way he intends it!) and refuse to accept the results. We are in for a very rough time, my friend.

    • Quite so. Fearmongering has worked well for him in the past, and is working this time, too, for his approval ratings are climbing. Which translates into better results for the GOP two weeks from today. Yes, we are certainly in for a rough time … a few times I thought we had hit rock bottom and couldn’t get any worse, but each time I thought that, I was proven wrong. I now know that we can drop much further into that seemingly bottomless well of corruption and greed.

      • This march through Mexico may have been staged by Trump’s people to create a “situation” that he can milk and help the Republicans against their opponents! (We stand against those immigrants trying to take our jobs; the Democrats are the evil empire and they will welcome them with open arms.)I AM becoming a conspiracy theorist!

        • It’s so easy to do … and where Trump is concerned, nothing should surprise us. In the case of the migrant caravan, however, I don’t think it was staged by him so much as it just conveniently fell into his lap at the right moment, and he is going to milk it for all its worth. Most of us are smart enough to see the lie in it all, but his base of supporters are not, and they lap up every word he says, wring their little hands, and say, “Oh no, whatever will we do? They’re coming to take our jobs and kill us and vote for democrats!!!” Sigh. I have become a cynic.

  5. President Trump has threatened that the U.S. would begin “cutting off, or substantially reducing” aid to Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador over this caravan headed to our southern border. Also saying that he will close the southern border : “I have alerted Border Patrol and Military that this is a National Emergency.” This could end up with bloodshed. These desperate people are risking everything to flee violence in their home countries, and they may receive equally harsh treatment here. Why would Democrats want this to happen to anyone, let alone the innocent children in this caravan? I weep with Lady Liberty for the America that I once knew! Thank-you!

    • The only thing you got wrong in your assessment is when you said “this could end in bloodshed”. Change that to “this WILL end in bloodshed”, and you’re spot on. This nation today is a tinderbox, a powder keg waiting for someone to toss a match, and Trump seems perfectly willing to toss that match. Sigh. Lady Liberty is indeed weeping. I suggested in a post some time ago that perhaps we should send her back to France, for we no longer deserve her.

  6. So let me get this straight.
A nation of 300, 000,000, with 390,000,000 privately owned guns; with one of the largest armed forces in the world number 1,281,900 + 800,000 reservists, , approximately 1,000,000 local law enforcement agency staff, several security agencies and which prides itself on its manliness (1,690 players in the NFL) has a president who is afraid of a 5,000 ragged, undernourished, unarmed mix of men, women and children?????????
    Hmmm….
    Interesting thought.

    • Yep, that about sums it up. Actually, he knows what comprises that caravan and he knows it is no threat to national security, but it plays well to his base. His approval rating, according to FiveThirtyEight’s aggregate polls, is the highest it has been since his second month in office. Fearmongering works for him, in part because his base WANT to believe him … they almost seem to NEED to believe what he tells them. Why? I dunno.

      Liked by 1 person

      • They want to believe him because they hate and distrust the Opposition so much. It’s not about him, it’s about hating Liberals, Feminists, LGBTs, African-Americans, Latinos, Muslims and…. and of course non-existent The Socialists. As long as he is there those groups are angry or upset and that suits his ‘fan’ base fine. As for those ordinary & normal GOP followers who simply distrust Big Government, don’t like Liberal ‘excesses’ and want a ‘freer economy’, they are stuck with him and try and make the best of it.
Paradoxically democracy is often all about keeping someone else out, or down by legal and ‘honest’ means.
Socrates for insistence was condemned to death by a democratic government for the crime of ‘corrupting youth’ with his teachings and impiety…. sound vaguely familiar? (only these days it is Death by Media)

        • It all makes me wonder how Barack Obama was elected, not once but TWICE! I still think, sometimes, that Trump and all that goes along with him is mainly a ‘push-back’ against having had an African-American president for 8 years. I was especially struck by your line that reads “ordinary & normal GOP followers who simply distrust Big Government, don’t like Liberal ‘excesses’ and want a ‘freer economy’, they are stuck with him and try and make the best of it.” That describes several I know who seem to realize that he is going against all they believe in, yet still vote for him. We surely do know how to make a mucky mess of things, don’t we?

  7. Could not this caravan be just as easily be heading for Mexico or perhaps have been heading for Mexico until Trump’s man turned up with a payment and an idea. Now that would be why he had advance notice of where they’re going to.

    • Mexico will let them pass through, but not stay. And frankly, with Mexico’s economy, they wouldn’t be a whole lot better off there, except they wouldn’t have to endure the violence they had at home. But, according to Gronda’s post today, a Fox News reporter has actually been with the caravan for a bit of time and he refutes everything that Trump said. He says the caravan is precisely what it claims to be … families trying to escape violence and go where they can provide for the safety and well-being of their children. But Trump’s supporters are ignoring that and lapping up his rhetoric that the people in the caravan are “evil” and “terrorists” and coming here to vote in the November elections, paid by democrats to do so. Which is ridiculous, for they wouldn’t be allowed to vote even if we do give them asylum! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

      • I don’t understand why Trump is still alive. What heart he ever had must have shrivelled and died years ago.I read about his lies on this front fed to a group of besotted idiots who can’t see the lies for what they are, or don’t want too.Now I hear Trump is thinking of claiming the election is wrong, possibly fixed if the Democrats gain a majority which is likely to lead to bloodshed as his ‘faithful’ read that. Does he care? Not at all as long as he can get the courts to overturn the election results, anyone wonder why he wanted Kavanaugh now?

        • Many of us ask the question daily, “Why hasn’t somebody killed him already?” I’m still not sure of the answer. Remember right before the 2016 election, he said that he already knew it was rigged and once he lost he would be calling for a full investigation, a re-count, blah blah blah? Funny, isn’t it, that he dropped that line of thinking when he surprisingly won! If the democrats pick up a majority in the House in November, no doubt he will throw his massive weight around, bully & bluster and demand a re-count. Other than that, or getting people to lie and cheat on a massive scale, there won’t be much he can do. BUT … the added turmoil is likely to lead to some serious problems here. Sigh.

      • You’ve hit the nail on the head … apparently this side has always existed, but it took Trump to come along and legitimize it, tell people it’s ‘okay’ to hate others, to act with arrogance and bigotry. I, too, am disappointed in people, but we must educate them … somehow.

    • Exactly! They won’t listen to people who have taken the time to do the research and learn the facts, but rather lash out at us in anger because they fear what we might say that might burst their bubble, might force them to wake up and realize the reality.

    • You are so right, but honestly I don’t know that it will stop even then. It has proven more than once to be an effective means to control the masses, at least those who don’t bother to go in search of facts. Sigh. What a mess, yes?
