I didn’t post a song yesterday, and didn’t intend to today, for at the moment I don’t have a song in my heart. But then I visited a friend’s blog, bereavedandbeingasingleparent, and his post gave me the perfect idea for tonight’s song.
Photographs and Memories is the title song from Jim Croce’s album of the same name that was released in 1974, a year after his death. Croce was just starting to become successful when he died at the age of 30. Jim, the pilot, and other members of his group, were killed when the plane crashed into a pecan tree at the end of the runway in Natchitoches, Louisiana in 1973. Yet another gone too soon.
Photographs And Memories
Jim Croce
Photographs and memories
Christmas cards you sent to me
All that I have are these
To remember you
Memories that come at night
Take me to another time
Back to a happier day
When I called you mine
But we sure had a good time
When we started way back when
Morning walks and bedroom talks
Oh how I loved you then
Summer skies and lullabies
Nights we couldn’t say good-bye
And of all of the things that we knew
Not a dream survived
Photographs and memories
All the love you gave to me
Somehow it just can’t be true
That’s all I’ve left of you
But we sure had a good time
When we started way back when
Morning walks and bedroom talks
Oh how I loved you then

Another Croce classic that touches and stirs me. I remember this too well, along with his sudden death.I was seventeen, and his music, so rich, grounded, and human, spoke to me in a different manner than the other excellent music out there at the time. Thanks for the reminder. Cheers.

I’m glad to have picked one that brought back memories, hopefully some pleasant ones. Yes, Croce was different, and I wonder, had he lived, how his music might have evolved. Although, just before he boarded that fated plane, he had written to his wife and told her that he was going to quit his music, so who knows?

Love Jim. My favorite is Lover’s Cross. You know, he once lived in the little jungle house we we rented while in Costa Rica. When our friend and landlord told me that I was thrilled. So many performers and artists have spent significant time there.

Fascinating … a personal connection of sorts!!! Most people seem to prefer Time in a Bottle, but I think mine is Bad, Bad Leroy Brown. Figures, huh? 😉

Hello Jill. Again we agree on performers and songs. I have several of his songs, but not this one, I will soon add it . Thank you. My favorite of his is time in a bottle. Hugs

Awesome! I really love finding how many people share much of my taste in music … especially since for years my kids have told me I have lousy taste in music! 😉 My favourite of his, I think, is Bad, Bad Leroy Brown. A bit of a rebel I am 🙂

Jill, truly one of my favorite performers and a great example of his work. Many of his songs are burned word for word into my memory. They are little stories. Happy Thanksgiving my friend. Keith

His songs do tell a story, don’t they? My fave is Bad, Bad Leroy Brown … I told you I was a bit of a rebel at one time 😉

Jill, that is an excellent song, but there are too many to highlight just one – Lover’s Cross, One less set of footsteps, Operator, Alabama Rain, New York’s not my home – to name only a few. Thanks for the earworms! Keith

Was Croce popular in the UK? I didn’t see it mentioned in any of the sites I checked out.

I think the only song hat registered over here was Bad Bad Leroy Brown though I’m sure he must have had a serious fan base too. His death was a tragedy too soon.

Leroy Brown is actually my favourite of his songs, but I like several others as well.
