Sickening …

I did not realize I was feeling ill until the following “breaking news” came popping up on my phone last evening …

House Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows is no longer under consideration to be Donald Trump’s chief of staff.

“Congressman Mark Meadows is a great friend to President Trump and is doing an incredible job in Congress. The President told him we need him in Congress so he can continue the great work he is doing there,” White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement.

Meadows, a staunch Trump ally, had been a top contender for the position, and he had signaled his interest in recent days. But ultimately, aides said the president thought it best for him to remain in Congress, where he can continue to be a strong defender of the administration.

Now, first off, I am glad that Meadows, who is a grade-A, bigoted, radical right-wing jerk, is not going to be the new chief of staff.  But when I read that he is doing “an incredible job”, my stomach churns, and when I read that he is to stay in Congress “so he can continue the great work …” I am full on sick to my stomach.

For those who may be unfamiliar with Mr. Meadows, let me summarize …

  • Meadows voted against relief for Hurricane Sandy in 2013
  • He is anti-abortion and anti-birth control
  • Oddly, he claims to support a balanced budget, though he has largely contributed to the highest deficit we have seen in six years
  • He demanded that Trump get rid of all federal funding to study climate change
  • He also requested Trump repeal environmental regulations including the Renewable Fuel Standard, stop the prohibition of drilling oil on federal lands, and pull the US out of the Paris Climate Agreement
  • Meadows voted against renewing the Violence Against Women Act
  • He has proposed that the United States should tap into oil and gas reserves to keep energy prices low, and to develop energy independence. He supports tapping into off-shore oil and gas supplies
  • Meadows opposes same-sex marriage
  • Meadows opposes any restrictions on gun purchases and opposes a national gun registry that would list detailed information about firearm ownership
  • He has voted numerous times to repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act
  • He supports tax cuts for the wealthy and large corporations, and is against net neutrality

House Freedom CaucusWell, you get the picture.  Mark Meadows, chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, and member of the U.S. House of Representatives from North Carolina is the worst of the worst of the republican party.  In essence, if it is good for the wealthy and bad for the rest of us, he is for it.  If it helps the average Joe, he will fight against it.  And he is considered one of Trump’s closest allies in Congress.  That tell you something?  This is a man whose conscience is measured in dollar signs.

And so now you might understand why, when I hear Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Don Trump refer to him as “doing an incredible job”, I feel ill.  An incredible job at what???  Destroying the nation and the global environment?  Sending women’s rights back two centuries? Mark Meadows-1You might ask just what the good people of North Carolina were thinking when they elected him for a fourth term last month, but the reality is that his district is so heavily gerrymandered that almost all minorities have been excluded.  He campaigned for the 2018 elections by touting his support of the madman Trump, while claiming that any republicans who didn’t support Trump should be removed from office.

Mark Meadows is, contrary to Ms. Sanders and Mr. Trump’s opinion, not doing a great job at anything.  He is the poster boy for why we need to have all district maps re-drawn to appropriately represent the voters.

So, we are left with the question … who will be the next chief of staff?  Nick Ayers and Rick Santorum have thus far turned down the job, Mark Meadows is out of the running … who’s left?  The three leading contenders appear to be acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker, a former campaign manager David Bossie, and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.  But then, who knows … by tomorrow it could be Daffy Duck!  Whoever it is, I’m sure he or she will make a lovely addition to this circus of clowns.circus-1

  1. Oh I nearly forgot…. Meadows….Yeh he’s a jerk…Full Five-Star one. If jerks were 6 inches high he’d be 2 foot 6.
One good thing about getting older is you get address folk like him with the words ‘Now see here…sonny’- they hate that, their egos are such fragile things

  2. Dear Jill,

Let’s see how the GOP US House Representative Mark Meadows enjoys being in the minority party with the leader being a tough woman, Nancy Pelosi. It couldn’t happen to a more deserving guy even though he has some tough competition like Devin Nunes. January 3, 2019 is only a few days away.

    Hugs, Gronda

  3. Mark Meadows wants to take the country back to a time of white christian male privilege where women are second class citizens with no rights of their own, dependent on their husbands grace for anything they have. LGBTQ do not come out in the open, are hidden and ashamed. Minorities and non-whites will know their place and show only respect and fear to the white male. Other religions than Christianity are not represented nor given any respect, while Christian symbols are plastered everywhere and laws will be made based on the Christians in power. I do not know if such a time ever existed, but boy people like Meadows are desperate for it again. They dream of a day no one can tell them they are wrong, and they can order their wives around like the minority servants. Hugs

  4. For Trump’s survival, he must constantly refill the swamp with the vilest of creatures that will support him, men like Mark Meadows. It has seemed that there is no end to those willing to jump right in, until recently and that just may be the wee bit of hope we desperately need to cling onto. To bring you some relief , do read David Leonhardt’s Opinion Today post from this morning in The New York Times, Is Trump Doomed? The only advice that I might add is this often misattributed quote, that has been attributed to many…Franklin D. Roosevelt, Theodore Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson and my Gram! “When you reach the end of your rope, tie a knot in it and hang on.” – Unknown? Thank-you!

    • As usual, I’m behind in everything … Christmas has thrown a wrench into my schedule! But I did just now find Leonhardt’s column and have set it aside to read in a little bit … thanks! And yep, I’ve heard that quote many times, and it will likely never go out of style! As for Trump … he has done a darn fine job of filling the swamp with the most lethal of all creatures, hasn’t he? It may take years to get rid of all the detritus and toxicity.

  5. Let us pray that mr. christie takes the job that no one wants. every single one of the cheeto’s assistants have ended up indicted, tried and found guilty. We can only hope Christie gets to play in the orange-jumpsuited playpen with his buddies.

  6. Jill, two comments. One of my most argumentative phone calls with a staff member was with a Meadows aide. I have had over 50 calls that went fine, but that one was combative.

The other comment is I believe Meadows turned the President down, but allowed him to flip the story to save face. He did not want the job then acquiesced to being considered. Keith

  7. I would use the term Neanderthal for this Masters person, but that would be insulting our historical cousins. Does the man have a wife of partner? I sure as hell-is-not-a-real-place hope not, because he must be a batterer to want to repeal the Violence Against Women Act. Can we say BULLY? Not a strong enough word! Be glad Trump wants him to remain in Congress. Any amount of power would be too much for him to handle. I would love to see him eunuchized.

    • Yep, he has a wife and two children. It stuns me that, not only they walk among us, but they also reproduce! At some point a few years ago, I suggested putting birth control into their soft drinks, but my idea went nowhere. And I agree … where is Lorena Bobbitt when you need her?

      • Good touch, or is it cut?
But really, as you know, it takes no brains to reproduce. For the most part it is programmed right into us. Insert. Mix. Bake. Deliver. Almost everyone can do it, provided all the circumstances are right and the subjects healthy. So, yeah, they reproduce. But that is where it should end. You should need lessons to bring up a child, they are so easily wrecked for life in their first few years of life. The ability to reproduce does not guarantee the skill to be a parent. Something has to be done about that!

        • You are so right … it requires no brains, no common sense, no qualifications at all to produce a child. Have you noticed, it is these same eejits that are so dead set against birth control and abortion? Sheesh. A friend suggested not long ago that children should be taken away from their parents once they are weaned and raised by professionals who are shown to value education above all else. It seemed a bit cruel to me at the time, but sometimes I wonder …

          • Yes, I recommended something like that last year, except I would not base their values on their educational skills alone. The major requirement is the ability to love openly and freely, and their ability to care for everyone equally. From there you can move on to education and other things, but education without love and caring is worthless. There are so many things that have to be considered. But letting someone raise children just because they are the parents? Look around you today, and the problems with that pop up every second. No reasonable argument can be shown for parents owning their children. It will eventually lead to our extinction.

            • I agree, and didn’t mean to imply that education was the only value that should be considered. Empathy, compassion, humanity … and as you say, the ability to care for everyone equally. If there is only one thing I could wipe out in this world, it would be bigotry in all forms. You’re right … we are quickly bringing about our own extinction in more ways than one.

  8. Thank you for another great piece of information, Jill! Seems the craziness of the world is going on. Watching the news here in Europe you will going ill too. Brexit and other things make you sad. Not only the exit of an EU member state, more the fact anyone thought this would never happen. Best wishes, Michael

  9. I might let it make me ill also but those kind of people aren’t worth the trouble. He’s going to be out of his element in the coming House of Representatives. As for Sarah Sanders, she’s merely an echo of Trump. If he shouted across a canyon her voice would answer back. 😦 — Suzanne

    • He will, indeed, be out-gunned after January 3rd! I look forward to his frustrations then. Sarah Huckabee Sanders … I have to wonder how she even sleeps at night, so many lies she has told for Trump, knowing she was lying.

      • Last night on Jimmel Kimmel they had instead of the “Elf on the Shelf” the “Huckabee in the Tree”. It was a small doll with a movable mouth in a tree with Huckabee Sanders face on it. They said she saw everything as her lies kept her awake at night. 😀 — Suzanne

          • Her position is probably complicated because her father is also a Trump follower. She might be worried she’d embarrass him. On the other hand, she might be dedicated to protecting Trump. Nothing would surprise me these days concerning Trump. I sometimes wonder how Fox will change or be demoted when the charges against the Trump administration are proven and the whole thing reaches its conclusion. —- Suzanne

            • I saw an interview with Mike Huckabee not too long ago and he was extolling her virtues, saying how proud he is of his daughter. I nearly gagged. Personally, I think she’s hoping for her own political career someday and hoping Trump will help her rise to prominence. She ought not to hold her breath on that one. I read recently that once Trump is gone, predictions are that it will be all downhill from there for Fox. Let us hope.

  11. Can’t say I’m surprised. What do you expect from an egotistical, white-wealth-privileged, draft-dodging, adulterous, tax-dodging, high-income property developer, media-personality with no experience in government? (Just as well I’m in a good mood this morning otherwise I might get really nasty)
