You Have Got To Be Kidding!!!

Ever have one of those days where you start scanning the news and find yourself saying, multiple times, “You have got to be kidding me!”?  Have you noticed that they seem to come more often these days?  There is just so much utter … nutsiness, for lack of a better word … that I shake my head until marbles begin to rattle around in there.  Here are a couple of the latest ones …

Damn those subversive Girl Scouts, anyway …

I had never heard of Jane Chastain, but apparently she made history in 1974 when she became the first woman to call an NFL game.  Now, I might have found that exciting, might even admire her and give her a high five for breaking that glass ceiling, were it not for what she has done since.  Somewhere along the line, she lost her admirability, lost her good sense … lost her marbles it would seem.

Chastain writes a column for the right-wing media outlet, WorldNetDaily, commonly known as WND.  But her latest … well, you be the judge …

“It is no small coincidence that the Girl Scouts are out in force this month selling cookies on street corners, in front of grocery stores and other places of business. For many years, I would buy at least one box from every girl I met, even if I had a dozen or more boxes at home.

The Girl Scouts were an important part of my formative years, and I sold hundreds of boxes of these cookies myself, so I considered it payback, paying it forward so to speak. Not anymore.

In fact, the Girl Scouts are celebrating the victory won by their alums in the 2018 midterms on its website, beginning with their star, Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, who attributes much of her success to what she learned as part of this organization.

Now Girl Scout alums make up 72 percent of female senators and 60 percent of the women in the 116th Congress. Although the website tries to strike a bipartisan tone, it is no accident that, among this year’s freshmen, Carol Miller is the only Republican, and she is much older, 68, than the rest. Her training in scouting was well before the feminist takeover that occurred in 1970.

So before you decide to embrace an International Women’s Day celebration or buy the cookies, ask yourself, ‘Will the country be better off with more representatives like the young socialist Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez?’”

Faces of Evil?

You’ve got to be kidding!  I’m not sure what offends her more … that the girl scouts are celebrating the election of one of their alumni, or that most of the members of Congress who are former girl scouts are democrats!  This woman has lost her marbles!

Get paid extra for carrying a gun?

You likely remember that after the tragic school shooting in Parkland Florida last year, Trump and the NRA bluntly suggested that the way to end school shootings was to arm teachers.  The rest of us held our heads, rolled our eyes, and groaned a deep, anguished “nooooooooooooo …”.  Well, it seems there are some who still think this is just a peachy idea.

teacher-with-gunThree North Carolina republican legislators filed a bill last Wednesday to give up to 3,000 teachers a 5% salary raise if they become teacher resource officers who receive specialized police training to carry firearms at work.  One of the three, North Carolina State Senator Jerry Tillman, says this bill, which is a copy of one that failed to pass last year, will succeed.

“This is an idea whose time has come. With the heightened awareness of the legislature, I believe this bill will see success. It’s a big deterrent to somebody going to shoot up a school. You need to stop them any way you can.”

You’ve got to be kidding!

Mark Jewell, President of the North Carolina Association of Educators, on the other hand, is not thrilled.

“It is a disaster waiting to happen. We continue to be opposed to arming our teachers with firearms. Arm us with the resources we need to teach our kids to be safe.”

I agree 110% with Mr. Jewell.  Want your kids to be safe in school?  Then vote for legislation that takes guns off the streets and out of the hands of people not qualified to use them.  Let us hope the North Carolina legislature has better sense than Mr. Tillman.

How she dresses means she is … what???

I would love to know how people with a law degree can be so utterly stupid?  Think about Kellyanne Conway and Ann Coulter … bimbos, they are, yet they hold law degrees.  Add to that list Jeanine Pirro, who not only holds a law degree, but is a former judge, prosecutor, and politician from New York.  Currently Pirro is host of Fox News Channel’s Justice with Judge Jeanine, where she spouts right-wing conspiracy theories and other lunacy.jeanine-pirroHer latest is a claim that Muslim women who wear a hijab are against the U.S. Constitution.  More specifically, freshman congresswoman Ilhan Omar, who wears a hijab, is against the Constitution.

“Omar wears a hijab, which, according to the Quran 33:59, tells women to cover so they won’t get molested. Is her adherence to this Islamic doctrine indicative of her adherence to Sharia law, which in itself is antithetical to the United States Constitution?”

You’ve got to be kidding!  This woman needs to go back to school and study the history of this nation, how religious freedom was one of the tenets of the founding of this country.  Interestingly, and surprisingly, Fox News apologized for Pirro’s abhorrent comments, saying …

“We strongly condemn Jeanine Pirro’s comments about Rep. Ilhan Omar. They do not reflect those of the network and we have addressed the matter with her directly.”

For once, Fox did the right thing and I applaud them for it.  But wait … along comes former Trump associate Sebastian Gorka …

“She’s absolutely right. The hijab is a requirement of the religion of Islam. It is part of Sharia law. Sharia law does not comport with the U.S. Constitution. Judge Jeanine, we have your back. Hold the line. You are speaking the truth.”

Where are all these fools coming from?  Would somebody please shut the damn gate?

Until next time, dear friends …

  1. Dear Jill,

I had actually read the story about Ms. Chastain boycotting girl scout cookies which means I’ll be purchasing a few boxes to use as gifts. She’s upset because one of the Girl Scouts Program’s goals has been to instill self-confidence in their young ladies which is a worthy goal. Based on the percentage of elected officials who have been in the Girl Scouts, I’d say it’s been a success..

Having teachers with a gun will not end well. It is only a matter of time.I’m surprised this was the State of NC involved in this fiasco instead of Florida.

Jeanine Pirro is just one of the FOX pundits who has a job to do, rile up the GOP base of voters by adding fuel to their anger and prejudices. She just made the mistake ob being too explicit.

    Hugs, Gronda

    • Heh heh … I, too, decided it’s time to go buy some Girl Scout cookies! They are selling them at my local Kroger, and since I will be there tomorrow evening, I shall stock up!

You’re right … the idea of arming teachers is by far the worst idea I’ve heard in years … perhaps ever. As you said, it is only a matter of time before disaster strikes.

Jeanine Pirro may be just doing a job, but to me, anybody who would take such a job is a person of low morals and a person without a conscience. I rank her right up there with Ann Coulter … a b**ch.

  2. Jill, just picking one story, why not ask why so many former girl scouts ran as Democrats relative to Republicans? You think it might have anything to do with women’s rights and civil discourse? I can see what the future holds – political girl scout groups. Paraphrasing an old Waylon Jennings song, Mamas don’t let your babies grow up to be Democrats. Keith

  3. You certainly came up with a clutch of weirdo birds this post, Jill. Too bad they haven’t already been plucked and deterred. These are the same people who have forgotten they stole this land from its previous tenants and then forced them to live by white laws in order to avoid genocide. If they believe in justice, or karma, let them know their time is coming.

    • To quote from the Matrix: “Fate, it seems, is not without a sense of irony.”
I find Judge Pirro’s position oddly amusing. Does she not realize she’s living in and supporting a very old and established patriarchal regime, a system of control which oppress women no matter where they’re from or what they wear. Apparently she’s ignorant enough to criticize Rep. Omar for upholding Sharia Law… which does not jive with the US Constitution. Didn’t she realize during the time the Constitution was written, it was for protecting the rights of the merchant class of WEALTHY WHITE MALES. There was still slavery, no voting rights or land ownership for women, plus local modesty laws which dictated what women can & cannot wear. And as Rawgod rightfully pointed out: mass genocide of the Native American population. So much for justifying the Constitution LMAO! To this very day our laws still favor the Elite class, typically wealthy white politically connected males. Did Ms Pirro look in the mirror lately, lest she forgot where she really is. Cops are still killing black folk with impunity, women still make much less than men, Native Americans still live on reservations, corporations find “legal” loopholes to destroy the environment and pay no taxes, politicians sell us out on every turn just to enrich themselves.
Is it any wonder the old political guard, the establishment want so dearly to discredit and marginalize this new wave of younger Democratic leaders? That’s why this upcoming 2020 election is REVOLUTIONARY!

    • We have more than our fair share of those weirdo birds, my friend! Would you like us to send some up north? They are pooping all over our grass! Yes, as a whole, this nation cherry-picks its history, choosing to remember the finer moments and to conveniently forget how we treated the original citizens, how we used and abused slaves, how we interned Japanese-Americans for no reason other than their ethnicity, how we turned away a ship of Jewish refugees, most of whom died, and I could go on and on and on. Sigh.

  4. Teachers being armed was and still is such a ridiculous suggestion!! It’s insane! Yes, lets just put more guns in school so that now students don’t even need to bring a gun to school, they can just wrestle it from the teacher!! And when the cops come in to try to stop the shooter, how do they know who the shooter is being that there may be several teachers bearing guns and some teachers can look as young as students!!
You are right the world gets crazier and crazier!

    • I absolutely agree! In fact, there was an incident … I don’t remember the exact details, but I wrote about it a year or so ago … where a teacher was carrying a gun and accidentally discharged it, injuring two or three students in the process. Leave the guns out of the schools … instead, work toward taking them out of the hands of parents who leave them where their teens can get them! This nation is bloody gun-crazy! The Founding Fathers must roll over in their graves multiple times and kick themselves for writing in that 2nd Amendment!

  5. Hello Jill. So Nuns wearing their habit are against the constitution. The bible calls for women to cover their hair. Many Jewish women wear a wig over their hair for this reason. So do we need fear all of them. I think the republican white males fear all women anyway. I can see why, they way they treat them, they need to. Wow. Hugs

    • What a good point you make about the nuns and their habits! Why didn’t I think of that? And … when I was a child, having one Jewish parent and one Catholic parent, I was exposed to both religions. (Now you can understand my aversion to religion, yes?) I remember that on entering the Catholic church, we had to cover our heads. Hmmm … seems that every religion has some sort of mandate about women covering their heads. Apropos of nothing, why is it only the women? 😀 Hugs!!

      • Hello Jill. Oppression mostly. It is about control. Not men controlling themselves, no it is about controlling females completely. Females must take responsibility for every negative action men do and also for all the bad in the world. Adam only sinned due to eve? So why did god create eve, was god a woman? Hugs
