♫ What The World Needs Now Is Love ♫

It has been an awful week, my friends.  We have seen examples of just about the worst the human race has to offer.  Typically when we have a week like this, I either play Lennon’s Imagine, or Wonder & McCartney’s Ebony and Ivory, but tonight this song came to my mind, and it seems just the thing to play at this time, the song to end the week and lead into the weekend.  No back story or trivia tonight … just the song.  I’m particularly struck by the lyrics “No not just for some, but for everyone.  Think about it.

What the World Needs Now
Dionne Warwick

What the world needs now is love, sweet love
It’s the only thing that there’s just too little of
What the world needs now is love, sweet love,
No not just for some but for everyone.

Lord, we don’t need another mountain,
There are mountains and hillsides enough to climb
There are oceans and rivers enough to cross,
Enough to last till the end of time.

What the world needs now is love, sweet love
It’s the only thing that there’s just too little of
What the world needs now is love, sweet love,
No, not just for some but for everyone.

Lord, we don’t need another meadow
There are cornfields and wheat fields enough to grow
There are sunbeams and moonbeams enough to shine
Oh listen, lord, if you want to know.

What the world needs now is love, sweet love
It’s the only thing that there’s just too little of
What the world needs now is love, sweet love,
No, not just for some but for everyone.

No, not just for some, oh, but just for everyone.

  1. One of my favorites, Jill. I used it several times myself instead of a post when times were dark. Humans are inherently vicious and violent, so we must expect these atrocities. However, what hurts me most, what insults my inner self are the friends and family members who line up with the white supremacy ideology. Where have I been all of my life to never have seen this hatred in people I know? It seems like someone pushed a button and released all this fear and ignorance.

    • Yes, sometimes a song can express what we want to say better than our own words. I’m with you on that, Larry, for I have experienced the same with friends I’ve known for decades, and family members. I thought I knew these people, thought I knew where their hearts were, but all of a sudden, I don’t even recognize their hateful attitudes! I ask myself quite often, “Was I really so blind that I couldn’t see how he/she was, or did he/she change overnight?” I’ve lost many friends in the past 3 years over my political beliefs, but then again, I’ve gained many friends through this blog, and many of them seem like family to me.
