♫ If This Is It ♫

I’m not a huge fan of Huey Lewis And The News, but I’ve always liked this one for some reason.  No trivia or background tonight, okay?  Filosofa is beyond tired.  Just listen …

If This Is It
Huey Lewis and the News

I’ve been phoning night and morning
I heard you say, “Tell him, I’m not home”
Now you’re confessing but I’m still guessing
I’ve been your fool for so so long

Girl, don’t lie, just to save my feelings
Girl, don’t cry and tell me nothing’s wrong
Girl, don’t try to make up phony reasons
I’d rather leave than never believe

If this is it, please let me know
If this ain’t love you’d better let me know
If this is it, I want to know
If this ain’t love baby, just say so

You’ve been thinking and I’ve been drinking
We both know that it’s just not right
Now you’re pretending that it’s not ending
You’ll say anything to avoid a fight

Girl, don’t lie and tell me that you need me
Girl, don’t cry and tell me nothing’s wrong
I’ll be alright one way or another
So let me go or make me want to stay

If this is it, please let me know
If this ain’t love you’d better let me know
If this is it, I want to know
If this ain’t love baby, just say so

If this is it, please let me know
If this ain’t love you’d better let me know
If this is it, I want to know
If this ain’t love baby, just say so

If this is it, please let me know
If this is it, please let me know
If this is it, please let me know
If this is it, please let me know
If this is it, please let me know
If this is it, please let me know

  1. Jill, I do like Huey Lewis and this song is a good reason why. I was thinking of him and the News when I realized Joan Osborne did not find success until her 30s. I think Huey Lewis had the same long journey. Keith

    • I think you’re right … he putzed around the edges for a long time, but was 30 or so before he achieved ‘fame & fortune’. I do like this song … though I never knew the lyrics until last night, and made up my own 🙂

  2. Unlike my over the top comment on yesterday’s music post earlier today, I will attempt to keep my propensity for loquacity in check. Huey Lewis and the News were never a big hit with me, although I could not say that I disliked like them. Not so for my then teenage son. He was hooked on them from the time he saw “Back to the Future” in 1985 that featured their song “The Power of Love”. He played that single endlessly, I eventually knew the words and would find myself humming it at work and at home…much like “Rubber Duckie” of Sesame Street fame from his younger years…it could be said that this was an improvement. I can add something else that I learned from him after the movie came out on video and he pointed out the cameo appearance of Lewis in the film as a music instructor that disses Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox, if you haven’t seen the movie). This particular song, in Benjamin speak…thumbs down! Thank-you!

    • P.S. You need to work less and relax more, you will make yourself ill if you don’t take care of yourself. Might I also suggest that you attempt to destress, that may be achieved by minimizing time spent on Trumpian BS and perhaps by skipping over my inane comments!

      • There is something here in your comment for which I must give you a huge THANKS. That is saying that what I do is my ‘work’. Some, I think, see what I do with this blog as a “little hobby”, and don’t understand the time and effort (not to mention tears) that I put into it, but when you refer to it as my ‘work’, you acknowledge that, for which I am so grateful. I know that my audience is small, and most already agree with me, but I keep hoping that I may make at least one or two people stop, listen, and think, perhaps acknowledge that there is something they hadn’t previously considered. I started this blog as a venue for book reviews I was doing for Amazon as well as others, but it has blossomed into much, much more. I see it now as a responsibility, a challenge. My life’s work, perhaps. Ahhhh … I seem to be gaining my own Propensity for Loquacity, don’t I? Perhaps it is the lateness of the hour, else my emotional angst of the moment. But, to your point, thank you … I have a personality type that doesn’t seem capable of relaxation, except in small … very small … doses. Oddly, I am happiest when I am stressing myself out, cussing at Trump’s image on my computer screen, and beating the lettering off of my keyboard. But I do realize that lately the constant bombardment of news is taking a toll, and I’m trying to find outlets for the angst. Thank you for caring, my friend.

    • Rubber Duckie … you’re the one … you make bathtime so much fun … rubber duckie, I’m awfully fond of you-u! I remember that well, and it brings back fond memories! And now, I will give you yet another shock, Miss Ellen! I HAVE actually seen the movie “Back to the Future”, not once, not twice, but THREE times! I love both Christopher Lloyd and Michael J. Fox, and the movie was tres cool! However, I did not know of Huey Lewis’ cameo role! I am sorry, however, that you found this song not to your liking. I shall try, try again!

    • Awww … I’m sorry you were disappointed. I’ve been meaning to play “The Power of Love” for a while now, but keep forgetting. I’ll put it on the list so I remember … I think I have another on my list I wanted to play for you, too.
