♫ Can You Feel The Love Tonight ♫

Naturally, given my love for all (or most, anyway — I never did care for Rocket Man) things Elton, I have already played Elton’s version of this song.  However, tonight I was pointed in the direction of a different version by a group called Pentatonix.

This talented diverse a cappella group is from Arlington,Texas. They are named after the Pentatonic Scale, a scale with 5 notes per octave that represents the 5 members of the group. They replaced the last letter of the word with an “x” to make it more appealing. In 2011 the third season of “The Sing-Off” with Nick Lachey as host premiered on Sept. 19th and featured Pentatonix. On November 28, 2011 the season concluded…with Pentatonix winning!

Can You Feel the Love Tonight
Pentatonix

There’s a calm surrender to the rush of day
When the heat of the rolling world can be turned away
An enchanted moment and it sees me through
It’s enough for this restless warrior just to be with you

And can you feel the love tonight? It is where we are
It’s enough for this wide-eyed wanderer that we got this far
And can you feel the love tonight? How it’s laid to rest
It’s enough to make kings and vagabonds believe the very best

There’s a time for everyone, if they only learn
That the twisting kaleidoscope moves us all in turn
There’s a rhyme and reason to the wild outdoors
When the heart of this star-crossed voyager beats in time with yours

And can you feel the love tonight? It is where we are
It’s enough for this wide-eyed wanderer that we got this far
And can you feel the love tonight? How it’s laid to rest
It’s enough to make kings and vagabonds believe the very best
It’s enough to make kings and vagabonds believe the very best

Songwriters: Elton John / Tim Rice

  1. I do love this song, but I think I’m a bigger fan of “Circle of Life.” I like the “eternal” feel of it. But, of course, anything Hans Zimmer has a hand in (producing or composing) I’m prone to love! I do, also, love Pentatonix. One of my favorites is “The Sound of Silence” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdVjVtpr55M). Are you familiar with Peter Hollens? If not, check him out! He’s amazing. • I like Pentatonix they bring something to every song they do and a cappella takes real talent. Like Calensariel above I particularly like Sound of Silence which doesn’t have that ‘song from a musical’ feeling.

      • I’ve just recently discovered them, but I do like them … their voices blend so beautifully. Like you, I loved the “Sounds of Silence” one Cheryl sent a link for … different than Simon & Garfunkel’s, but captivating.

    • Please forgive my intrusion on your comment. Yes, Yes…I love the early 2019 Pentatonix cover of “The Sound of Silence”! I absolutely love their album “PTX – Vol.lV – Classics” released in April of 2017. It is their last album with original member, Avi Kaplan. That album contains my favorite, their cover of “Bohemian Rhapsody”. It also has the song “Jolene” which features none other than Dolly Parton herself performing with them. The two acts were brought together by Cracker Barrel Old Country Store as they had already partnered with Dolly back in 2009. If you have the time to listen, you will understand why they won the 2017 Grammy Award for “Best Country Duo/Group Performance”. Better yet, find it on YouTube and watch!! Note to Jill : Their cover of your favorite John Lennon song “Imagine” is on that album too! Peter Hollens is another talented a capella artist! Thank-you!!
