Snarky Snippets … Yes, Again!

Will there ever be a day that there isn’t so much to be snarky about?  Not in my lifetime, I suspect.  A number of things came onto my radar late last night … here are a few of them:

Keeping it in the family …

Imagine that!  Ol’ Mitch McConnell’s wife, Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao, is under investigation for possible ethics violations!  Who would’ve thunk it, eh?  Yesterday, the House Oversight and Reform Committee opened an investigation into whether Ms. Chao may have used her connections to benefit Foremost Group, a shipping company owned by her family, and whether hubby McConnell may have received preferential treatment.  A few salient points from the letter sent to Ms. Chao …

  • Several reports indicate that you have used your official position to benefit Foremost Group, a shipping company owned by your father and sisters … These reports suggest that you used your official position to elevate Foremost Group’s influence and status with the Chinese government, which has extended hundreds of millions of dollars in low interest loans to the company …

  • In addition, you have appeared alongside your father, the founder of Foremost Group, in at least a dozen Chinese media interviews – many of which were behind the official seal of the Department of Transportation (DOT). During some of these interviews, your father touted your influence with the United States government and boasted about his access to … Trump on Air Force One.

  • DOT reportedly was forced to cancel an official trip you were planning to take to China in October 2017 after ethics officials at the Department of State challenged your attempts to include your family members in official meetings with the Chinese government.

  • Questions have also been raised about your involvement in the decisions to deprioritize or reduce funding for DOT programs that benefit U.S.-flagged vessels in the foreign trade, decisions that could benefit your family’s company, which owns entirely foreign-flag ships.

  • Given the decline in the number of U.S.-flagged vessels in foreign trade, DOT’s approach to these programs may threaten national security by increasing the likelihood that our military will be dependent on foreign-flagged vessels during times of war or emergency.

  • The committee is also investigating your failure to divest of stock in one of the nation’s largest construction companies, Vulcan Materials Company (Vulcan), where you served on the Board of Directors for nearly two years immediately before becoming Secretary of Transportation. Vulcan’s annual revenue depends heavily on annual infrastructure funding allocated by the DOT.  Vulcan granted you approximately 3,000 “deferred stock units” for serving as a director, giving you a significant and direct personal financial interest in the company.

The letter goes on to describe in further detail the ethics breaches the committee is questioning and requests a number of documents and written explanations for the above.  In addition, there are questions about special consideration being given to husband Mitch McConnell’s state of Kentucky, paving the way for grants totaling at least $78 million for favored projects as McConnell prepared to campaign for reelection.Mitch-ElaineCorruption?  Nah, surely not!

Paying for them to play …

The Secret Service wants jet skis.  Why?  So that they can ride along while the Trumps – Ivanka, Junior, and Eric – are participating in water sports.  HELLOOOOOO???  Tell me again who pays for all this? The Secret Service wrote…

“President Trump and his family spend several weeks throughout the year in Mar-a-Lago, Florida and Hamptons, New York. The first family is very active in water sports.  Several family members along with their guest participate in open water activities for which USSS Special Agent Rescue Swimmers are responsible. SA’s have rented watercraft with their own personal funds to allow them to be near our protectees in various water environments to fulfill the USSS Rescue Swimmer mission.”

donald-trump-jr-kids.jpgThe cost of the requested vehicles, made by Kawasaki, runs from $9,999 to $15,299. These won’t be normal jet skis, though, as they will feature special rescue saving equipment, such as rescue sleds.  While most of us struggle to even afford a small vacation to the beach or the mountains, WE are paying for the entire Trump entourage to frolic in the surf and for them to have maximum protection while doing so.  Tell me again how Trump & Co are not benefiting from his office?  BAH HUMBUG!

Brett Kavanaugh — back in the news

New allegations of sexual misconduct have surfaced against Justice Brett Kavanaugh, whose Senate confirmation was pushed through without the initial allegations ever being properly investigated.  Comedian Trevor Noah sums it up well, and with a bit of humour …

  1. I believe that the women who have said he sexually assaulted them are telling the truth. I believe he is a jackass who does not belong on the Supreme Court. I believe he will be impeached, though maybe not right now. I’ve known you for some 20 years now, Jerry, and I’ve never known you to be as bigoted as you are showing yourself to be these days. I’m sorry, but I think this friendship has run its course.

  2. This is snarcasm at its best, well done!! It appears that the Queen of Snark has hit the mark and caused some to bark! Trevor Noah never fails to inform and amuse. Thank-you!

    • Thank you! I’m beginning to think I should re-name my blog to “Snarky Snippets”. Sigh. The only reason Mitchie keeps getting voted in time after time is that Kentuckians would rather vote for the Devil himself than to vote for a democrat. They aren’t well-educated people, for the most part.

  3. Trump wastes no (taxpayer) expense on his family, when he can afford to cover these costs with his own money, which is what he should be doing. They are his responsibility, and if they are not, then they are their own responsibilities, not the state’s. That they want to “frolic in the sun” is up to them. The NEPOTISM in this administration is too great to ignore, as in the DOT investigation, everyone is taking the people’s money and distributing it to themselves, their familues, and their friends in astrological amounts the rest of us cannot even conceive of. FREE ENTERPRIZE IS NEVER FREE, SOMEONE ALWAYS PAYS. Yet it is always the same people who pay, the poor. Some people may enjoy paying for the comfort of others, most do not, especially when their own families go hungry. I wish peope would WAKE UP!!!!!

We cannot play the video in Canada, at least that is the error message I get. Another snippet to be snarky about.

    • Hello Rawgod. The tRumps all had private security and they paid for it. When they found out they could get security paid for by the government and also get the government to pay them for housing and forcing the security to spend at their places of business they went nuts on it. The amount the US government has spent on trips both business and pleasure that the tRump family not in any government position have taken is staggering. It is grifting at the max. We have become a country ruled by oligarchs. Russia is teaching these Republicans well. Hugs

      • Russia may be teaching them well, but they seem more than anxious to learn. But Trump wants his cake and to eat it to. How can he feed at the public trough if he is not willing to reveal his tax returns for the last “n” of years? What is it he is really hiding, on top of the stuff he is hiding from the taxman.
        Hugs.

        • Hello Rawgod. You just described the MO of the con man president we have. His goal is to take as much as he can while stopping anything that might keep him from getting to that money. It is a game he has played all his life. On the other hand our system of government was not ready nor designed to handle such open contempt for both convention and the actual laws. I think the entire world is really unaware of how bad this could go with the madness for the US. Hugs

          • Believe me, I can see most of it. The man is stupid, we all know that, but not as stupid as he makes himself out to be. There is method in his madness, and it all centres around him and his offspring being the greatest examples of humanity, and he will dump them as soon as the need arises.
Don’t know if you have read “Foundation and Empire” by Isaac Asimov, but in it he makes room for egomaniacs like Trump, but even he could not imagine anyone as bad as Trump. He basically said history can survive anomalies, but no one is sure history can survive Trump. And he has only been in power for two-and-a-half years. Even Mr. Hitler did not do this amount of damage in his first ten years of power.
BEWARE! Life can still get a lot worse for all.

    • Yes, they are wasting our money on their hedonistic lifestyles, and now threaten to cut our Social Security, are trying to cut our health care, and have already cut some people’s food stamps & housing! We the People??? HAH … what a joke! I would love to start a tax revolt, if only I knew how! I’m sick and damn tired of paying for all this b.s. when I can barely afford the insulin that keeps me from dying! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I really wish you could see the video … it’s very informative. Sigh. LuL

  4. Hello Jerry. If 35 people tell you there is a fire 5 miles down the road, yet you smell no smoke, are they all lying for some strange reason just to make you look bad? There is a reason these stories keep coming up and more are coming forward. If kavanaugh had done none of these things then the stories would have died off, instead they keeping on coming to light. History has shown when such as that happens it is best to pay attention. Need I mention Jeffrey Epstein? Hugs

    • Hello Jerry. Not sure why you referenced “Billy” as I assume you mean former president Clinton. Here is a news flash, not one Democrat or person on the left I know wants to shield anyone including Bill Clinton if they have sexually abused a child. That is a clear difference between the left and right. Many tRump supporters don’t care that tRump himself bragged about barging into the dressing rooms of the teen girls in his pageant while they were in the nude or other states of dress. He even bragged about how some of these underage kids bodies looked. He claimed because he owned the pageant he had the right to do that. We on the left do care. If Bill Clinton abused underage kids, he should face judgement, but the self admitted abuser tRump first.

As to Kavanaugh being there to stay, maybe, maybe not. The constitution does provide a way to remove him. But if not the court size can be changed in the future to demolish his effect.

As for getting over it. Getting over abuse with no consequence? Never sir. As an abuse victim myself I don’t give a pass to anyone not even a fawned over privileged man child who abused others as if they had no worth because he felt entitled. To ask such a thing is to say laws don’t matter and people are disposable. I would suggest anyone who does give that a pass needs to look at what their values are in life. Hugs

      • He referenced “Billy” because the damn republicans cannot seem to move on … they would dredge up Roosevelt if they could just spell his name! I apologize for Jerry’s rudeness, Scottie. I will delete any comments he makes in the future. Hugs.

  5. Hello Jill. Your first story shows why so many Republicans love Putin and Russia. An authoritarian government with oligarchs funneling state money to their own pockets. It must seem the perfect world to tRump and crew. They try so hard to be like their heros in Russia. Hugs
