The Video …

By now, I’m sure you have all heard of “The Video”.  That would be the video that was played at a three-day conference, which was held by a pro-Trump group, American Priority, at Trump National Doral Miami.  A conference, I might add, that was attended by Trump’s son, Junior, as well as by former press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, among others.

I watched this video tonight, and halfway through I felt ill and had to turn it off.  Folks, this is the most disgusting thing I have seen in the world of politics in all of my 68 years.  It is vile, it is violent, it is horrific and far beneath the dignity of … well, anybody, except possibly Charles Manson.  But worse yet, it is dangerous.  It was designed for one purpose and one purpose only:  to rile the masses, Trump’s base.

The video was taken from the 2014 movie “Kingsman: The Secret Service,” and showed the actor Colin Firth in a gory church massacre scene. In the movie, the people killed are members of a fundamentalist  church.

The doctored video depicts a scene inside the “Church of Fake News,” where parishioners rise as Trump — dressed in a black pinstripe suit and tie — walks down the aisle. Many parishioners’ faces have been replaced with the logos of news media organizations, including PBS, NPR, Politico, The Washington Post and NBC.

Trump stops in the middle of the church, pulls a gun out of his suit jacket pocket and begins a graphic rampage. As the parishioners try to flee, Trump fires at them. He shoots Black Lives Matter in the head, and also shoots Vice News.

Some of those in the church try to apprehend Trump. He fends them off and makes his way toward the altar, knocking over several pews. He wrestles a parishioner with a Vice News logo as a face to the ground and then shoots the person at point blank range. In the background, the former F.B.I. director, James Comey, is seen trying to get away.

From there, Trump attacks a range of his critics. He strikes the late Arizona senator John McCain in the back of the neck. He hits the television personality Rosie O’Donnell in the face and then stabs her in the head. He strikes Representative Maxine Waters, Democrat of California. He lights the head of Senator Bernie Sanders, one of his democratic rivals, on fire.

He takes Senator Mitt Romney of Utah, hostage before throwing him to the ground. Then he strikes former President Barack Obama in the back and throws him against a wall.

Others shown in the video include Mika Brzezinski of MSNBC; former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton; former President Bill Clinton; the film producer Harvey Weinstein; and Representative Adam B. Schiff, the California Democrat who as chairman of the House Intelligence Committee is overseeing an impeachment inquiry of Trump.

The clip ends with Trump putting a stake into the head of a person with a CNN logo for a face. Trump then stands on the altar, admiring his rampage, and smiles.

I am not embedding the video here, for I don’t recommend watching it, however if you have a stomach of iron, or as I did, feel that you should watch it to see for yourself, here is a link.

Trump did not create this video, nor do I hold him accountable for its creation.  It is the work of an unidentified creator who operates under the name of “The GeekzTeam” and who has proclaimed on Twitter to be a “red blooded American with ZERO tolerance for the liberal agenda.”  However, Trump himself is not without blame.  Since early in his campaign, he has denigrated the press, calling them “fake news”, and worse yet, “the enemy of the people”.  He has made up nasty nicknames for any who disagree with him, for with Trump, there can be no middle ground … you’re either 100% for him, or you are “the enemy”.

Much of Trump’s most avid base is, obviously, comprised of the less-educated … people who could care less about those things they don’t understand:  Syria, alliances, immigration, tariffs, policy goals, Russians, taxes (unless it’s their own).  They care only about what affects them directly and noticeably.  Tariffs affect them, but they don’t notice if the price of apples jumps by 50 cents a pound, and if they do notice, they don’t connect it to tariffs.  The mistrust of our allies, based on Trump’s foreign policies, if they can even be called policies, is naught but a concept to them, and they don’t understand that it makes our own nation a lot less safe.

And … most of them own guns.

So, when a video such as this one is shown online, when those most avid among Trump supporters see it, at least a few are quite likely to get ideas.  They’ve heard Trump tell them that the press is the enemy, and there he is in the video, killing members of every legitimate news outlet.  They’ve heard him put down people like Bernie Sanders, Barack Obama, Adam Schiff, and the woman he will always resent, for she beat him in 2016, Hillary Clinton.  Now, I see you thinking that no sane person would watch that video and then try to act violently against any of those people.  And most wouldn’t, not even those die-hard Trumpeters.  But …

Remember Cesar Altieri Sayoc Jr., the man who sent pipe bombs to Obama, Biden, Clinton, Kamala Harris, Cory Booker, Maxine Waters, and others including CNN?  He believed certain conspiracy theories he had seen on Sean Hannity’s Fox Network show, and thought that Trump’s critics were dangerous, unpatriotic, and evil.

Remember the Pizzagate conspiracy theory that posited Hillary Clinton and John Podesta were running a pedophilia and human trafficking ring in the basement of Comet Ping Pong pizzeria?  Edgar Maddison Welch took it seriously, took an AR-15 assault rifle to the restaurant with the intent of killing whoever he found there.  Luckily, he was stopped before anybody died, but think what might have happened.

Remember Jarrod Warren Ramos who entered the Capital Gazette newspaper offices in June 2018, began shooting and killed five people?  Though he did not cite Trump, most believe that newspapers and news outlets are increasingly susceptible to violence as a result of Trump’s near-constant criticism.

Remember Brenton Harrison Tarrant?  You probably don’t for his name was intentionally not made noteworthy, but he was the man who killed 57 people in two separate mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, this past March.  In his “manifesto”, he cited Trump as part of his inspiration, calling him “a symbol of renewed white identity and common purpose”.

Now, is it really so far-fetched to think that someone, somewhere, might see this video and go after members of the media or some of those people who Trump has called names, said they should be “locked up”, or threatened to sue?  Or maybe even a simple little blogger who is anti-Trump and whose blog he just happened to see one day?

Think about it.

  1. Haven’t seen it, not will I waste my time. And such trash..the people at his conference…those laughing and smirking…oh but they’re all good Christians.

But the most dangerous thing, as you say, are the loons out there with mental issues, guns and a hero worship of trump and all things he says.

Humanity is starting to de-evolve. Just look around where ever you go and listen or observe behavior.

Racism is rampant. Religion has de-evolved into a far right hateful political party. Child trafficking is on the rise.

Education is a thing of the past except for the lucky few who have parents that can afford a good education. No one is interested in history, civics, science etc.

Manners are gone…everyone feels they are owed and entitled… road rage is growing…random acts of murder and mayhem.

Drugs are beyond control and no, the big supplies don’t come from illegal immigrations, but large under the wire companies with plenty of coverups.

It’s all spiraling out of control…and trump keeps adding to the fire …the four horsemen of the apocalypse..trump, Pompeo, Miller and Barr…

I’m not a pessimist, but a realist and this is what I see, especially if Orange Jeebus is re-elected.

  2. I have seen ‘Kingsman,’ and that scene is truly shocking. Actually, the first time I saw it was a Gulf Air flight, and that scene was cut completely from that version (just proving that Muslim nations do not incite violence). When I saw it on British TV, it made me sick and saw no point to it. Gratuitous violence in an otherwise fantasy comedy. For someone to emulate the scene with real intentions and Trump massacring people is reprehensible. This should be banned immediately. Where has humanity gone! 😱

    • You are right … this level of violence has no purpose other than to incite violence. It should be banned, but over here, it won’t be, for people will defend it … even after some John Doe goes after a few journalists, people will defend this b.s.

  3. I guess there’s no line anymore that people would not think about crossing over. This video clearly crosses whatever line you could imagine. I wonder what the audience’s reaction was to seeing the video. Was it disgust, or were they cheering? This nightmare can’t be over soon enough.

    • For some, there is obviously no line any more, no values. Remember when Trump said he would get rid of ‘political correctness’? In truth, political correctness is nothing more or less than respect, but it seems that among his base, that is gone. Oddly, I couldn’t find what the reactions of those who saw it were. I agree … it can’t end soon enough for me.

  4. Jill, I am with Rawgod on not wanting to see it. I guess when some followers think you are “ordained by God,” it is OK to blow away your opposition. In the new Trump bible, Jesus is armed with an AK47 and blows away the Romans.

As someone who tries to live by that Golden Rule thing, this kind of stuff truly is unsettling. I also was not a fan of Kathy Griffin beheading a Trump figure. I did not see that either.

We need to remember the media and politicians have been attacked. Provoking extreme parts of one’s base is abetting a potential crime. The mail bomber last fall. Attacking Steve Scalise. Attacking Gabby Giffords. Attacking the Baltimore paper. Journalists killed abroad.

A real leader would speak out against such and not have to be goaded to do so. Keith

    • A wise decision. I did not want to watch it, but felt that if I was going to write about it, I should at least see it. Unfortunately, once seen, it cannot be unseen. And I agree with you on Kathy Griffin. I thought that was crass and juvenile. Your last sentence says it all … “A real leader …” We haven’t got one.

      • Jill, setting aside the politics, Obama, Reagan, Kennedy, George HW Bush, etc. would have condemned this video, Charlottesville, Griffin, etc. As for the latter, something like, “Folks, we can choose to disagree with one another, but given innocent people who publicly lost their lives in that manner, this parody is inappropriate.” Keith

        • I think that any and every president up until the present would have strongly condemned this video and the other atrocities you mention. Even Nixon. Yeah, I always did like his down-to-earth style. What I find most disgusting, though, are the ordinary people who applaud this sort of thing. Sigh. We are devolving.

  5. I watched the video – pretty disgusting. I remember watching the original movie and the feeling of shock as that scene unfolded. I agree with Raw God – it’s only a matter of time, days likely, when some nut decides to stage another mass shooting. However, I think the real danger is that it is a thinly veiled call to civil war. Chilling.

    • You’re so right … I think it’s only a matter of time. And I also agree … if not a civil war, then something. As I was just telling Roger in another comment, there is something in the air here these days … palpable tension brewing beneath the surface.

      • And yet, there seem to be cracks forming in Trump’s base as the Impeachment Hearings proceed. It’s a sure bet he’ll be impeached in the House, but getting a 2/3 majority in that Senate is highly doubtful. Even so, Trump will likely be trounced in November 2020.

        • There are some definite fissures among some republicans in Congress, but as far as his base goes, I’m not seeing much of it. Seems that most of them don’t really care what he does, how crass he is, or even if he abandons our allies, for they just don’t seem to understand. But, if 20 republicans in the Senate will vote to impeach, then I’ll be satisfied, for at that point, his base have no say over it.

  6. I happened to see the original movie and could hardly believe the brutality of that scene. The series up to that point didn’t seem that violent. Rather than helping the movie I think it hurt it and the series. James Bond had some violent scenes but I don’t remember any that violent. Trump lives in his own reality and doesn’t listen when he’s warned. I think any future blood is on the hands of the cowardly Senate members who refuse to rein him in but instead cover for him. Shame on them. 😦 — Suzanne

    • I didn’t see the movie … in fact, I watch few movies, but that level of violence seems un-called-for. There are times, such as movies depicting war, or the Civil Rights movement, where violence is necessary in movies to depict history as it was. But, this level of violence seems to be only for the sake of sating the audience’s blood-lust. You’re right … it will be on the hands of Trump, but also those who have the power to stop him, but are too cowardly to use that power.

  7. I feel no need to see it, think about it, or even try to imagine it. That something like this has not happened in the last few days is almost unbelievable. Maybe, just maybe, this went too far even for his rabble. Maybe, but I don’t believe it. It was shown to hype up Trump’s Pets, to say it was okay to use violence. Someone somewhere is plotting to do something as I write. I know it. You know it. Everyone knows it. Yet we will still be shocked when it happens. Who could be so crazy!
