We The People Have Had ENOUGH!

Dear Donald Trump … our lives ARE NOT your personal playthings to do with as you wish for your own greedy, egotistical, narcissistic purposes!  Grrrrrrrrrrrr.  Filosofa is growling and grumbling tonight for a number of reasons …

Several days ago, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said …

“I’m increasingly worried that President Trump will want to shut down the government again because of impeachment. He always likes to create diversions. I hope and pray he won’t want to cause another government shutdown because it might be a diversion away from impeachment.”

When asked on Sunday if he would shut down the government in light of the ongoing impeachment investigations, he said …

“It depends on — it depends on what the negotiation — I wouldn’t commit to anything. It depends on what the negotiation is.”

This is NOT how government works … at least not unless your country is a tinpot dictatorship!  But then, Donald Trump is neither educated nor enlightened on how government works, and has no concern for the standards and practices, nor for the people of this nation, let alone the U.S. Constitution.

Trump’s last government shutdown, which was also a political ploy to attempt to force Congress to fund his damnable wall, was the longest in the history of the nation.  It cost people their homes, their cars … their livelihood.  Is he going to do it again?  Does he foolishly believe that the House of Representatives will shirk their duty and drop the impeachment investigations in exchange for his signature on the short-term spending bill before November 21st?  If he believes that, he better think again.  If he shuts our government down again for his own personal gain, somebody really ought to put strychnine in his Big Mac!

For those republicans and Trump supporters who may be unaware … California is one of the 50 states in the United States, and the most populous state.  The population of California is 39.56 million, or approximately 11.9% of the nation’s total.  And California is burning!  California is experiencing horrible wildfires that are threatening land, structures, crops, and lives.  Nearly 100,000 acres have burned in recent weeks, and thousands of people have been forced from their homes.  And how, you might ask, is the head of the federal government helping?California-fire-1In his usual way, by placing the blame on others, by saying he could have done it better, and by threatening to cut off federal aid to the state — all done via tweet, of course.

First, he blamed California Governor Gavin Newsom who has been a critic of Trump for some time.

“The Governor of California, @GavinNewsom, has done a terrible job of forest management. I told him from the first day we met that he must “clean” his forest floors regardless of what his bosses, the environmentalists, DEMAND of him. Must also do burns and cut fire stoppers …”

California-fire-2This from a ‘man’ who has no idea what he is even talking about, a ‘man’ who last year said that Finland ‘rakes’ their forests, a faux pas that the president of Finland quickly put paid to, showing Trump for the fool that he is!

Newsom fired back …

“You don’t believe in climate change. You are excused from this conversation.”

Thumbs up to Governor Newsom!  👍👍California-fire-3The reality is that increased temperatures due to global warming are causing the huge wildfires in California, according to a recent study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.  Drier, warmer conditions lead to vegetation drying out and becoming more flammable.  And what has Trump done?  He has rolled back nearly every single environmental regulation that would have helped reduce carbon emissions that are exacerbating the effects of climate change.  He is more nearly responsible for those wild fires than any other individual on the planet, in my book!  And yet …

“Every year, as the fire’s [sic] rage & California burns, it is the same thing – and then he comes to the Federal Government for $$$ help. No more. Get your act together Governor.”

Jackass.

And speaking of climate change …

Yesterday, Trump kept to his threat, taking the first step in the process to pull the United States out of the Paris Climate Accord, making the U.S. the only nation to ever have done so, making us the only nation that appears not to give a damn about the environment, or the future of life on Earth.  In a tweet, Mike Pompeo bragged about the move, saying …

“Today we begin the formal process of withdrawing from the Paris Agreement. The U.S. is proud of our record as a world leader in reducing all emissions, fostering resilience, growing our economy, and ensuring energy for our citizens. Ours is a realistic and pragmatic model.”

I beg to differ.  First of all, we are NOT proud of anything this nation has done regarding the environment since Trump took office.  We have, under the lunacy of Donald Trump, done not one damn thing to cut emissions, protect the land or wildlife habitats, the water or air, but instead have removed nearly every regulation that was in place prior to January 20, 2017!  I had hoped he would be gone from office long before this day rolled around.  There is still some hope, since the country will not be officially out of the agreement until November 4, 2020 … the day after Trump is (fingers crossed) voted out of office.

In response to Pompeo’s tweet, Alden Meyer, director of strategy and policy at the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) and a leading expert on the United Nations’ international climate negotiations process, warned …

“President Trump’s decision to walk away from the Paris agreement is irresponsible and shortsighted. All too many people are already experiencing the costly and harmful impacts of climate change in the form of rising seas, more intense hurricanes and wildfires, and record-breaking temperatures.”

If the U.S. does, in fact, officially pull out, we will be THE ONLY nation on the entire globe that is not in the agreement and is not even trying to save the environment.  Think about that one for a minute.  Or two minutes.

I have more, but … well, that’s enough for the moment … I don’t want to make you all growl and grumble too.  There is one bit of a bright spot.  Remember last week I wrote about Washington Nationals’ pitcher Sean Doolittle who, after much thought, decided he would decline the offer to visit the White House for a celebration of the team’s win?  His reasoning was that Trump had gone against many of Mr. Doolittle’s own values with his racist ways.  Well, when I wrote that, it was rumoured that several other players were also considering declining the offer, and I am pleased to report that six other players in addition to Mr. Doolittle did not attend the White House ceremony yesterday.  They are Anthony Rendon, Joe Ross, Javy Guerra, Wilmer Difo, Victor Robles, and Michael Taylor.  I applaud them for having the courage to follow their conscience.

  1. Another spot on rant Jill. You know, one of the biggest disappointments in an administration with thousands of them, is Pompeo. This guy supposedly has ambitions for the Senate seat in Kansas, as well as maybe a presidential run some day. Really? You’ve got to be kidding me. It’s like Republican strategist Rick Wilson’s book: Everything Trump touches dies. That has never been more true, especially with the sycophant Secretary of State. He’s an embarrassment and a joke. Another in a long line of people who will be put out to pasture for bowing to the ‘dear leader.’

    • Thanks Jeff! Yeah, I heard that Pompeo is considering a run for a seat in the Senate. But, in my book Pompeo has always been a warmonger and I am at polar opposites with him in foreign policy. There is an arrogance about him that I cannot stand. And … he is now also a proven boot-licker. I cannot stand someone who will sacrifice his own beliefs to pander to another … especially if that ‘another’ is Trump! AH!!! I saw that book at Barnes & Noble the other day! I didn’t pick it up, but I remember seeing the title and thinking it was spot on! Perhaps next time I will take a closer look!

  2. There are no words left for the irresponsibility that now plagues the US under the Orange dictatorship. The current administration is so corrupt, you might as well all say goodbye to any thoughts of ‘Liberty🗽,’ for she is long dead in the control web constructed by your poisonous leader!

I have lost patience with politics… It is meaningless for the average person these days. Do you ever think you will hear the words ‘Love one Another’ from a politician? The hate that is spewing out, not just in the States, but globally, is the biggest sign that civilisation is about to collapse… And it will do so with such force, we (if any of us are left to witness it) that we will be left in a much worse place than any of the former collapses of history’s great empires!

    • Well said, Colette. Like Big Business is only interested in making “worthless” money (worthless, because if you don’t spend it you are removing it from the economy, and no one else can use it either!), Politics these days is not about governing, but “ruling”! And as long as people are willing to be ruled, they are not free…

    • I guess I’d prefer to think of Lady Liberty as being in a coma from which she might recover if we can only get rid of the plague that infects her, rather than to think that she is dead, for being dead is such a … final thing. Sigh.

I actually did hear the words “love one another” from a politician a few years ago. His name was Barack Obama. Oh, how I wish we had him back in the White House!

  3. Jill, yesterday was a sad day for America and our planet with the formal withdrawal from the Paris Climate Change Accord. I would add that the release of the testimony will create questions that need to be asked of Republicans. One thing they did is confirm the Donald Trump, Jr. lied (or simply misstated the facts) this morning when he said Republicans were not allowed to ask questions. The three committees are made up of almost 1/2 Republicans, so they did get to ask questions. This is borne out in the transscripts.

It is also interesting that Mike Pompeo told George Stephanopolous that he was never asked by Michael McKinley to defend Maria Yovanovitch. Well, he thought enough of it to say so under oath and resign over the lack of support. Two things need to be mentioned to Trump sycophants.

    1) Lying under oath is a crime. Lying on TV is not.
    2) One of the absolute worst things a leader can do is not defend his or her people.

Pompeo is merely following his boss’ lead. And, what Republicans should be concerned about is why are so many capable people leaving this leader? That, in and of itself, is harmful to America. Why are they?

Trump, Paul, etc. want the whistleblower revealed so they can beat on him or her. Do you know who I want to hear from – former NSA leader Dan Coats and his second in command. Why did they leave in September? Both were well respected as are the two diplomats noted above.

    • I agree that it was a sad day. Every other nation on the globe is committed to some level of trying to reverse climate change, to try to salvage the environment, but the U.S. under Trump is more concerned with the grossly bloated profits of the fossil fuel and logging industries than life on earth for future generations. I am so ashamed of what this nation has become. As for the calls by Rand Paul and Trump for the whistleblower’s identity to be made public … not only do they want to beat on him, but in today’s toxic environment, they would be signing his or her death warrant. It would be only a matter of days before some nutcase would be taking potshots, or sending mail bombs.

Y’know … you’ve made me think … I hadn’t thought of it before, but perhaps there IS more behind Dan Coats’ resignation than we initially thought. Perhaps the House would be well-advised to subpoena Coats and his second in command!

Who would have guessed, 5-10 years ago that our government would ever be run like this? It’s like something out of a really bad movie. Sigh.

      • Jill, I left Rand Paul a message over my concerns. The key question is which side of history do you wish to be on?

There is a story with Dan Coates leaving and Trump not giving the job to Sue Gordon, Coates well thought of successor. My hypothesis is Trump wanted someone more loyal to him than to the constitution.

As for climate change, Dem candidates, please shout from the roof tops, we will reenter the Paris Climate Change accord the day of the inauguration. We cannot let a moment pass by with the damage (and hindrance of progress) done by the current president.

        • Rand Paul … grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. He’s already sold his soul downriver.

I think you are most likely correct in your thinking about Coates and Sue Gordon … Trump isn’t concerned with much when it comes to choosing his cabinet, beyond them being 100% loyal to him. Look at Jeff Sessions as one example … he point blank said that had he known Sessions would recuse himself from the Mueller investigation, he would not have nominated him. He doesn’t even bother to try to hide his corruption!

I’m with you on climate change. We think of healthcare as a key issue, and it IS important, but frankly there is no more critical issue than the environment and dealing with climate change at this point. We are the only nation pulling out of the Paris Accords … don’t you suppose other countries will, at some point, take action to force us to reduce our carbon emissions? I’ve used the analogy before of the neighbor who keeps throwing his trash in my yard … sooner or later, I’m going to take action against that neighbor.

  4. The Government own more forest land in California than the State do. I’d expect him to know that and be aware of how many people are fighting his fires for him. It would be interesting to know if he swept the forest floor as per the advice he issued..The team can grab 6 people off the street to make up the number and Trump wouldn’t know the difference.. Personally I hope it hurts him that 7 people the public follow declined to eat and sit with him.

    • Excellent point … and one that I should have mentioned. I’m betting that Trump has no idea that the federal government owns some 57% of California’s forests, for he cannot seem to be bothered with such trivial matters as facts … he is too busy tooting his very loud horn. Interestingly, I haven’t seen any response from him about the 7 players who skipped the White House ceremony … I fully expected a Twitter rant or two, at the very least! The one I really loved was last year, when an entire NBA championship team opted out of the White House invitation and chose instead to meet with former President Obama!!!

      • Yep, yep, yep, and yep. Meanwhile, a Wall Street Journal article today noted that analysts and brokers are now considering climate change threats when they assess companies, as well as what companies are doing to mitigate the threats they face from climate change, such as wildfires and rising sea levels.

More importantly, more than 11,000 scientists signed a doc declaring a climate emergency. Think that jackass in the WH will ever notice? Hell no.

        Cheers

        • Really? That’s a good sign … it is being taken more seriously by some at least. Yes, I saw the document by the 11,000 scientists declaring climate change an emergency, and I thought to myself “Trump will merely deride it as “fake news”. Sigh. Cheers to you, Michael!
