Jeff shocked me today by posting not one, but TWO posts! This one … he speaks for me with every single word. We do NOT need wealthy businessmen running our government … men who have never in their entire lives known what it’s like to have to beg for someone to help you pay the rent, or make a choice between paying the electric bill or taking your sick kid to the doctor! Thank you, Jeff, for this timely and apropos post!
Instead, how about an effort to end homelessness?
So now Michael Bloomberg is considering a run for the presidency. Please, Mr. Mayor, do us all a favor and un-consider.
I’m sorry. I’ve had about enough of billionaires with political aspirations. Look, I admire what many of these guys have accomplished in life. Bill Gates and Warren Buffett have donated billions of their fortunes to worthy causes. And Bloomberg himself has donated to many charities. I do not begrudge them for making a ton of money. It’s not their success that turns me off — whining about paying a bit more in taxes? Oh yeah, that does it.
Have we not learned anything at all? The idea that people can dip into their massive fortunes to, in a sense, try to buy themselves into political office is unseemly and just plain wrong. It’s something we need to fix as part of…

Next to the drain produce such as Bannon; Billionaires are the last folk you need getting involved in national politics, I’m sure several mean well, but honestly do they have any idea about the problems of ordinary folk. By all means donate to charities. But keep out of politics despite what Tom Clancy used to write very rich people are not automatically the best to be in govt.

Exactly! Bloomberg likely DOES mean well, but nonetheless, having been born with a silver spoon in his mouth, no way can he relate to the 99.5% of this nation that struggle on a daily basis to put food on the table and pay the rent/mortgage.

He should stick to Good Causes I am sure he would serve the nation just as well.

Definitely so! I question his sincerity in running, for he has skipped several states’ primaries.

Sounds a bit like a vanity project doesn’t it?

Could be that. I also had another thought … perhaps he is more of a republican at heart and is hoping to further dilute and divide the democratic candidates? He surely knows he hasn’t a chance to win, so …. why?

Well if you have a billions to throw around, running might seems a bit of a laugh…might play well to the shareholders…(deep authoritative voice) ‘Here is a Man of Courage. Unafraid etc etc ‘ (or something)

This morning he “apologized” for the “Stop-and-Frisk” policy he implemented as Mayor of New York City, saying it was “wrong”. Words are cheap … of course it was wrong, as black and Hispanic people were the targets of the policy!!!

In the UK for many years there was this phrase trotted out when things went wrong:
‘Mistakes were made but lessons have been learned,’
No kiddin’?

Lessons learned in many cases, seem to be quickly unlearned. Sigh.

Just madness. Here the opposition parties are ripping themselves apart while the Tories and a Brexit party have a pact.

It truly is madness. What??? Nigel and Boris are partnering now??? I saw a headline about Boris/Nigel/Trump becoming a ‘trio’, but I didn’t bother to read the article for I thought surely there was nothing to it. I thought only a handful took Nigel and his Brexit Party seriously! Sheesh … the madness reigns on both sides of the pond, it seems.

He’s been promised a knighthood if his party doesn’t stand in any Tory MP areas.

WHAT??? You are kidding me?!?!?! A knighthood? Doesn’t that get awarded in reward for courage and bravery??? If Nigel is beknighted, then there is truly no honour to the title anymore. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Do not worry Jill Boris and Nigel are making such a mess of the whole business with lots of Nigel’s folk screaming ‘we have been betrayed’ and Boris showing himself incapable of dealing with folk ‘on the stump’.
In some twisted way, they could be the best gifts the Opposition could ask for.

Ahhhh … yes, I can see your point there … let them duke it out and show the world what idiots they both are.

Doesn’t actually take a lot of effort from either of them.
