Today marks the next stage in the Trump impeachment process. Fellow-blogger Brosephus has some thoughts on the process thus far, the evidence, and the fiasco that is certain to ensue as the republicans continue to attempt to defend the indefensible. He also provides a link to the live coverage and other valuable information. Thank you, Brosephus, for all this valuable information!
Today marks the first day of impeachment hearings being held by the House Judiciary Committee. This committee would be the one responsible for drafting any articles of impeachment that would ultimately be voted on by the entire House of Representatives. Since impeachment is typically a once in a lifetime event, today’s hearing is basically going to be a history lesson on impeachment. There will be historians and scholars who will testify about the aspects of impeachment. It will likely be a drab hearing, but I still expect Republicans to do what they do best, which is try to muddy the waters while defending Trump.
As I did for the Intelligence Committee, I’m providing a live-stream of the hearings for those who can’t access it otherwise. This is a historical event regardless of where your politics reside. I agree with Democratic members of Congress that these allegations need to be investigated. …

For some people the proverbial genie is out of the bottle and Trump for all his childish behaviour will not be able to put it back in.

No … he won’t be able to put the genie back in, but I’m thinking he will try to break the bottle over the genie’s head. Sigh.

And History will break him. Lucky old Millard Filmore.

Yep, ol’ Millard has been waiting a long time to cede the title. I can’t imagine anybody ever in the next 1,000 or so years coming close to taking it away from Trump. He wanted to leave a legacy? No doubt he will.

Now here’s the chillily thought Jill. Trump is merely a warning. He’s got no talent, no cunning, a total shmuck built on phony money and vapid media.. There’s always someone worse, someone with intelligence and cunning. Democracy requires vigilance

That is not just a chilling thought, Roger, but that is the stuff that nightmares are made of. I’ve long said the same, that Trump is only the symptom of a larger evil, but … sigh … I sometimes forget my own cautionary warnings. You are right … we must get rid of Trump, for he is a danger, but there are more out there waiting in the wings … ones who actually have brains and know how to use them.

That’s true Jill and they will be learning and observing who amongst that circus has potential for what jobs and who can just be ditched as a suitable sacrifice.

Sigh. Okay, I will … but it seems that they are the ones annoying the hell out of me. Oh well … what’s life for if not to work toward something.

Fudge. Deflect. More fudge. More deflection. The Repugs have nothing to fight with, but they don’t care. They have no intention of listening to evidence, or weighing the justice in this case. They will defend Trump to the end with their misguided blindness.
There is nothing that can be done without the people rising up.
I never expected the Senate to impeach Trump, but I never expected them to be quite so blatant about it. It may save Trump till the election, but in the end it will destroy the RNC. Who the hell wants ostriches in their government, my apologies to real ostriches. Repugs are no better than any computing machine or robot: Garbage in, garbage out.

You are right in all you say, but it still amazes me that so many in the Republican Party are willing to throw away their credibility, their integrity, and ultimately their career for a ‘man’ who lies, cheats and steals, and would throw any of them under the bus in a heartbeat, as he has done countless others. I just don’t get it. Sigh.

Hello Jill. I am watching the hearing. Prof. Turley disagrees with the other three witnesses. He claims tRump has not committed a crime, the impeachment is far too rushed , is all political, and the Democrats are destroying the meaning of the constitution and are just wrong. How blind some people must be. Hugs

I guess it’s all in how you define ‘crime’, eh? There can be no denying that he has abused the power of his office. Is that a crime? It should be. The president of the nation should be held to a higher standard than anyone else, I should think. Sigh. Hugs.
