Saturday Surprise — Holiday Humour — Redux

I confess right up front that I am cheating a bit today by re-playing last year’s Christmas Saturday Surprise.  I have many things calling my name tonight — some are holiday-related chores such as wrapping presents, and others are simply things I’m behind on because … well, because it’s been a lousy week and I seem to be dysfunctional.  Still, I don’t feel too badly, for last year’s was a fun post, and I’ve forgotten most all of it, so hopefully you have to, and it will seem as new to you!

~ Shel Silverstein

I made myself a snowball,
As perfect as could be,
I thought I’d keep it as a pet,
And let it sleep with me.

I made it some pajamas,
And a pillow for its head,
Then last night it ran away,
But first – it wet the bed!

Once there was a snowman,
Who stood outside the door,
He wished that he could come inside,
And run about the floor.
He wished that he could warm himself,
Beside the fire, so red,
He wished that he could climb
Upon the big white bed.

So he called to the North Wind,
“Come and help me, pray,
For I’m completely frozen,
Standing here all day.”
So the North Wind came along,
And blew him in the door,
And now there nothing left,
But a puddle on the floor!

  1. My favourite is the last one too. I hope that now all the presents are wrapped, the baking is done, and you are sitting by the fire with a glass of something cheering in your hand….and not a thought of the Grinch in the White House. ~hugs~

    • Ha ha ha … oh, how I wish your vision was reality. In truth, I have a closet filled with presents yet to be wrapped, I have baked almost nothing, I still have a bit of shopping to do later today, and I have no fireplace in which to light a fire. I am behind on everything including, I think, breathing, and there is no way to put the Grinch in the White House out of my mind. Sigh. One part of your vision is true, though … I am enjoying a lovely cup of wine as I catch up on comments at … um … 3:00 a.m.! Happy Christmas to you, my dear friend!

    • (Please don’t tell me that re-posting is “cheating.” That would make my life much more stressful!!) After all, I have been doing this for nearly eight years and there is only so much new in the world! [I have no idea how you do it.]

      • Heh heh … it isn’t always cheating, my friend. I re-post things for a purpose from time to time, as do you. But, I was feeling guilty on Friday night because try though I might, I simply couldn’t find the energy or motivation to do a new Christmas Saturday Surprise, so re-posting that one was rather a cop-out on my part. However, I stopped beating myself up over it when I saw that most didn’t remember it from last year, and it brought smiles my friends faces!

        • Precisely! There are so many words online these days that reposting is like posting anew. This is especially true when so many readers drop out and a few add on. You and Keith are the only ones likely to remember my older posts, so I feel relatively clean — and I am sure to announce when the posts are not new.

          • ‘Tis true … we are bombarded with so much that we forget quickly. In fact, sometimes I will be reading a comment on a post that is a day or two old, and find myself having to go back and look at the post again, for I’ve forgotten what I said. I think my mind is calcifying!

    • Just for you, my friend! I was shopping today, and I saw a Maxine calendar … I immediately thought of you, and if I had a way to send it, I probably would have bought it! Happy Christmas to you and yours, as well, dear friend!

    • Heh heh … don’t be surprised if I use it again next year! Around this time of year, I am both busy and stressed, so “redux” comes in handy. 😉 Happiest of holidays to you too, dear friend.
