Da Snippets Dey Be Snarky …

I remember the last day I was able to read the news without having to either take ibuprofen or check my blood pressure … it was June 15th, 2015.  The day before Donald Trump pompously rode down the elevator and announced that he was running for president of the United States.  The next day, I laughed.  I’m not laughing now.

A budget written by Abbot & Costello?

Trump’s latest budget was “unveiled” yesterday.  If Congress passes this one, then I shall recommend psychiatric evaluations for every one of them!  Surely, he doesn’t honestly believe he can get this one through!  It must have been written by a team of comedians.  A few of the key points:

  • Expands the 2017 tax cuts for the wealthy and big corporations
  • Cuts Medicaid by $700 billion over the next 10 years
  • Cuts food stamps
  • Cuts farm subsidies
  • Cuts student loan programs
  • Cuts EPA funding by 27%
  • Cuts Social Security disability benefits and Medicare provider payments
  • Cuts foreign aid by 21%
  • Increases military spending
  • Increases NASA funding for ridiculous “space force” program by 12%
  • Allocates $2 billion for his wasteful, useless, hateful “border wall”

Notice a pattern here?  If it helps the 1% at the top of the wealth scale, he increases it, if it helps the 99% of us who don’t live in mansions and jet set all over the world, he cuts ‘n guts it.  Plain and simple.  Nancy Pelosi should do to this budget exactly what she did to his State of the Union speech.

Punishment for doing the right thing?  Only in the GOP …

More and more these days, I’m concluding that there is an intrinsic cruelty in some republicans.  I offer up as evidence the fact that Mitt Romney, the one lone republican who found the guts to vote to convict Trump of the impeachment charge of abuse of power that was more than proven, has been subjected to terrible treatment by those in his own party.  He has received condemnation, that there have even been calls for him to be expelled from the republican party!  WHOA, republicans!!!  The man did his job, he followed his conscience, he acted in the best interest of this nation, and you want his head on a pike???mitt-romneyThe latest, though, is just beyond ridiculous.  Matt Schlapp, chairman of the Conservative Political Action Conference, has “formally uninvited” Mitt to the Conservative Political Action Conference to be held the last four days of this month.

“We won’t credential him as a conservative. I suppose if he wants to come as a nonconservative and debate an issue with us, maybe in the future we would have him come. This year, I would actually be afraid for his physical safety, people are so mad at him.”

Wow … the man is being punished and threatened by his own party for doing his job, for being the only one with even half a conscience, for believing he actually owes something to the people of this nation in exchange for his salary.  See what I mean about some republicans?  They are just not very nice people.

And continuing along the theme that some republicans are not very nice …

Montana State Representative Rodney Garcia has a rather unique interpretation of the U.S. Constitution.

Rodney-Garcia“So actually in the Constitution of the United States [if] they are found guilty of being a socialist member you either go to prison or are shot. They’re enemies of the free state. What do we do with our enemies in war? In Vietnam, Afghanistan, all those. What did we do? I agree with my Constitution. That’s what makes us free. We’re not a democracy, we’re a Republic Constitution.”

So, where did this guy get his education?  It’s true that the U.S. is not a pure democracy, but until recently was a democratic republic, not a “republic constitution”.  And as for his premise that the Constitution gives people like himself the right to shoot a person who is a socialist … well, I won’t even dignify that with a response.

I did some digging, because I really wanted to know where he went to school … Podunk University?  I didn’t find that out, but I did dig up something interesting.  He admits to having been convicted “years ago” on a domestic violence charge.  And … last year he attacked Children’s Protective Services (CPS) …

“CPS was a ruse…they violate the law. I think that they harm children. Child Protective Services do not protect the children. They kidnap them.”

He went on to say that caseworkers should be fined $1,000 per day for every child they “steal” and should be put in jail.  Then he continued, admitting that CPS had visited his own home when his children were young, investigating a complaint.  And, he further accused Planned Parenthood of “chopping up babies and selling their body parts.”

Now … needless to say, this man’s mental capacity is severely diminished, but what is equally disturbing is that … the people of his district elected this dolt!  The Montana Republican Party has called for his resignation, to which he replied …

“They can ask me to step down, but, no, I don’t think so. I’m going to run for the Senate and I’m going to win. People are going to have to eat their words.  I’m getting my head so big from people saying, ‘Thank you, Rodney, for bringing this up.’ If people don’t want me in the Senate they can say: ‘Well, I’m not going to vote for ya.’ That’s their prerogative.  The only way I would give my resignation is if God asked me to.”

People of Montana … please, vote this joker out, and then see if you can’t have him committed for psychiatric evaluation!

    • Well … if the democratic candidates base their platforms only on criticism of the other side, they are destined to fail. They must propose solid plans to fix that which is broken … it cannot devolve into a mudfest. That said … I am thoroughly disgusted by the infighting among the candidates … it is counter-productive.

  2. Trump’s budget is simply another facet of his campaign for re-election. A gesture of giving tax cuts to his wealthy donors/supporters and funds to build the damn wall to appease his rabid base as promised last time around. The cuts are to enable the continued ravaging of the environment, to make the poor poorer, and to keep those somewhere in the middle exactly where they belong lest they have the audacity to attempt rising above their station. Increasing the funding for the NASA Space Force is to continue a purely egotistical venture so that he can say… Obama could not do this, only me…the only surprise is that it wasn’t called The Trump Space Force with his picture on the insignia. It is a sad day when truth and honor are vilified. One must wonder if Mitt Romney foresaw the extent of the fallout he would receive by his solitary stand. I believe that Rosa Parks said it well : “Stand for something or you will fall for anything. Today’s mighty oak is yesterday’s nut that has held its ground.” Mitt Romney is indeed that mighty oak and long may he stand! Rodney Garcia, on the other hand, is a weed that should be pulled out by the roots! Thank-you

    • If, indeed, Trump’s budget is yet another facet of his campaign for re-election (and I agree with you that it is), then it becomes obvious that he has no desire to garner votes from the poor nor from the average working bloke, for his tax cuts, like the last ones, will benefit only the wealthy, and the wall will benefit none. Frankly, I hope some people start blowing up sections of his wall just as they are completed! If I were closer and had the wherewithal, I’d be tempted to go take out a section myself — that’s just how angry I’m getting these days. I suspect Mitt Romney knew exactly what would happen, which makes his courage that much more laudable. Sigh. Unfortunately, there are more Rodney Garcias in this world than we know. More and more, my friend, this country disgusts me.

    • Ha ha … yeah, the jokes were pretty funny, back when they were jokes. Sigh. No, my friend, you don’t get the pistol and bullet … if I have to suffer through this, you’ve gotta stick around to keep me sane (relatively).

  4. Jill, the courage to stand alone against one’s friends (or party) is more than the courage to stand up against one’s enemies. The latter is expected. The former is unexpected. I saw where the US president is now saying Romney is tied to Burisma. Really? People don’t see that this as the president “throwing stuff against a wall” tactics. Since he is expected subservient acquittal, the president has been over the top with his tantrums and retribution.

As for Mr. Garcia, I am reminded of the line that folk singer Pete Seeger uttered in a communist witch hunt trial when Joe McCarthy accused him of being a communist. What if I am? Isn’t that work America is all about? We have a right to worship or support any way we want, as long as the groups does not conduct hate speech or hate crimes.

    • You are so right about that. Burisma??? Seriously? What, does he just pull things out of his posterior? I suppose you’ve seen today’s news about Roger Stone? Sigh.

The Pete Seeger line is a good example … Apparently Mr. Garcia thinks we must all think and act just like him. Seems a lot of people think that way these days …

  5. Ok, here I have something that should at least make you laugh … which is also good for blood pressure 😉
A Dutch man saw a photo shared by the White House, showing Trump with very orange face, hair blown back, revealing a white line. He twittered it with the hashtags #toomuchmakeup and #orangeface. He wasn’t prepared for the impact: It was shared A LOT …. AND Donald Trump himself reacted!!!! 🙂 Here ist he linkt to the original article, in Dutch. Hilarious … See what Google translate makes of it, if it doesn’t work, I will explain more…. https://www.ad.nl/buitenland/dit-is-de-nederlander-die-trump-op-de-kast-jaagde~a2d3d001/
Hugs and cheers! (by the way: the title translate to “this is the Dutch guy who upset Trump”, literally it would say “the guy who sent him up the closet”… like a cat that is scared and climbs up a tree…)

    • Oh, Choosing, thank you thank you thank you. That picture is worth thousands, millions, billions of words. English, Dutch, or Swahili, the language is not an issue. Trump’s face is well-tanned leather, orange leather. the white ring around it courtesy of Mr. Clean, no doubt.
By far the no. 1 ugliest human face of all time. Hell, just the ugliest living face of all time. Someone, quick give him a Nobel Prize for Ugliness. And make him pay USD $1,000,000.00 for the award.
I’m amazed the cameras didn’t break. I broke into so much laughter, I could not stop myself. UGLYYY!!!!

    • Ha ha … I LOVE it!!! And thank you, my friend, for providing a laugh and caring about my blood pressure (is 500/400 bad???) Thanks also for the hugs & cheers, and I send you back a huge hug from your very discouraged U.S. friend. Sigh … this too shall pass, right? Right? ❤

      • It will pass… eventually. Not so sure about the upcoming election though. From our perspective here, it looks like the Democrats are not really strong at the moment, candidate-wise… But we keep our collective fingers crossed. – This morning I found the first camellia has opened in my garden! Sending you happy thoughts! Hugs!

        • My perspective is the same … there is no single inspiring, motivating candidate like a Barack Obama or a John F. Kennedy. I like Sanders, Warren, Biden and Buttigieg, but their infighting isn’t helping matters. There are numerous strikes against whomever wins the nomination, for the republican party has been up to their usual tricks of disinformation, voter disenfranchisement, and more. I wish I had a better feeling about the upcoming election, but … it’s early days yet. Perhaps, with Trump on his revenge rampage, he will screw up badly enough to waken some of his blind supporters. Thanks for keeping your collective fingers crossed! And, for the happy thoughts and the hope that spring is right around the corner, as evidenced by your first camellia! 🌺
