Filosofa Is Angry …

Anger can be a good thing, when it motivates and inspires you to do something to change events or circumstances.  If, that is, that which makes you angry is something over which you have at least a modicum of control or influence.  But, when you must simply sit and watch the idiocy around you, anger becomes self-destructive and leads to depression.  I took a break from blogging yesterday, except for my music post, because everything I tried to write was beyond a snarky snippet, was even beyond a rant, but sounded like the ravings of a madman with more expletives than a trucker would use! rantI’m still angry, but I have, hopefully, corralled the worst of it.  Crises bring out the best in some people, the worst in others.  What we see every time we log onto any of the news media are the examples of the very worst of the human species.  And, of course, our own government is making a muckety mess of it all, doing everything exactly wrong, and … we have no control.  It is frustrating, at best, and I won’t say what it is at worst.  So … prepare for a bit of a rant … “Ranty Snippets”?

The bitch …

Gerrity’s Supermarket is a small family-owned chain in northeastern Pennsylvania. Like grocers nationwide, it has been deluged with orders and has struggled to keep basics such as chicken breasts and toilet paper on the shelves. Employees have been working overtime, pausing only for five-second breaks to wipe everything down with disinfectant wipes.

Two days ago, on Wednesday afternoon, a woman entered the store, proceeded to the produce section where she intentionally coughed all over every bit of the produce in the store!!!  ON PURPOSE!!!  Two weeks I tried to buy a damn green pepper and this woman, in a single malicious act, destroyed some $35,000 worth of food … food that we have been struggling to buy!

The store’s co-owner Joe Fasula said that they had no choice but to toss every bit of the produce.

GerritysIt didn’t take long for employees to realize what the woman was doing, and they quickly escorted her out of the store and called police.  Turns out, the woman is known to the local police for having caused problems in the community before.  WHY, in these times of so much grief and trouble, would anybody be so cruel???  But, this isn’t an isolated incident.

  • A New Jersey man was charged with harassment and making terroristic threats after purposely coughing on a Wegmans grocery store employee and saying he had coronavirus.
  • A Carlisle, Pennsylvania man is facing multiple charges after deliberately coughing near an elderly citizen wearing a medical face mask.

There have been hundreds of such reports.  The Carlisle man was 57 years old, and the New Jersey man was 50 … not some teenagers pulling a prank that they thought funny, but full-blown adults!  Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

First Amendment is still alive, yes?

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

I understand that for three long years and two long months, Donald Trump has been trampling the U.S. Constitution.  However … we will not allow him to completely remove, destroy, reverse, or otherwise restrict our 1st Amendment rights!!!

The latest …

Donald Trump’s re-election campaign sent cease-and-desist letters to local television stations on Wednesday, threatening them with legal action and potentially their broadcast licenses if they continue to air an ad from a Democratic group, Priorities USA.  The ad plays audio of Trump downplaying the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic over a chart of the mounting number of cases in the U.S. — now at more than 85,000 — but the Trump campaign objected only to one clip, of Trump saying “this is their new hoax.”

That quote comes from a Feb. 28 rally at which Trump repeatedly called his handling of the epidemic “one of the great jobs” and compared the Democrats “politicizing” of the coronavirus to the Russia investigation and Ukraine scandal.  HE SAID IT!  There’s no denying that it is a fact, it is the truth, it is on tape for all to hear!  The president’s re-election campaign does not have the right to stifle free speech or free press!  Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

The loons are coming out of the woodwork!

Rick Wiles is an American far-right conspiracy theorist and non-denominational senior pastor at Flowing Streams Church in Vero Beach, Florida.  Mr. Wiles claims that God is spreading the coronavirus in synagogues because he is “dealing with those who oppose his son, Jesus Christ.” And here is where those epithets really, really want to come out, but I am biting my tongue in the interest of professionalism and of not stepping on any toes.  Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

While schools and college campuses around the country remain closed to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, Liberty University is set to allow the return this week of up to 5,000 students. The plan was announced by the private evangelical university’s scandal–plagued president, Jerry Falwell Jr., an ally of President Trump.  Falwell’s ‘University’ is located in Virginia, a state that recently closed all schools for the rest of the school year.  Members of the community are not happy with Mr. Falwell, but he claims their concerns are ‘overblown’.  Nevertheless, the campus is said to resemble a ‘ghost town’.

Say WHAT???

On a final note, before I throw my laptop at the nearest wall, as of midnight tonight, Trump’s overall approval rating has reached an all-time high of 45.3%.  His previous high was reached on February 18th at 44.9%. 538 pollWould somebody PLEASE tell me what this jackass has done that people are approving of???  Since we first heard of the coronavirus back in January, Donald Trump has risked our lives every single bloody damn day by taking every single wrong turn he could take!!!  WHAT THE HELL are people approving of???  Oh … is it that whopping $1,200 check?  Well friends, guess what?  You will pay that back in spades.  Oh yeah … YOU the taxpayer will pay it back.  The United States does not have $2 trillion … it is effectively bankrupt.  It is borrowing that money and the day of reckoning will come.  Remember, the wealthy and corporations don’t pay their fair share in taxes, so you, the average taxpayer, will pay that $1,200 back with interestGrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

And now, my heart rate has once again traveled into that danger zone, so I shall stop for tonight.  Hope you are all well and safe, my friends.  Stay tuned this afternoon for Part XI of mine and Jeff’s project, Discord & Dissension.

  1. Let someone cough on me right now. They will have a very expensive dental bill when I forcefully relocate their jaw to a very unnatural position. I don’t do pranks very well when they are if a stupid nature like that.

Republicans managed to corrupt the stimulus package with giveaways to rich people who don’t need any help right now. I’ve been trying to regain control over my inner Angry Black Man. I know how Dr. David Banner felt when people pissed him off. 😁

    • I fully agree! I’d be in jail if somebody did that to me, mine, or anybody in my sight. And you’re so right about the stimulus bill … it is yet another corporate giveaway, and now Trump says he will not allow Congress to know who is receiving what. I’ve been trying to regain control over my inner Angry Caucasian Woman, and with very little success. Sigh. Keep well and safe, my friend … the world needs our anger!

  2. Jill, you have a right to be angry. Two comments. The woman who coughed all over the produce should be presented with a bill. The other is the president has done his best to try to erase the chalkboard that he did downplay the coronavirus calling it a hoax. People do record things.

I heard on NPR that they and other news outlets are no longer covering the president’s coronavirus press conferences from start to finish. Why? Because of the amount of misinformation that comes from the president. That statement speaks volumes. They will report on what the others say as they are trying to tell the truth.

The Washington Post reported that when a Trump direct report gets up to present at these press conferences, they genuflect to their boss and say what terrific leadership he has done over this crisis. It is akin to that famous cabinet meeting, when the cabinet went around the table and sang his praises. It made me ill.

We are at least a month to a month and a half behind on a reactive basis due to the president’s downplaying. We are also well beyond on planning because of the elimination of the Global Pandemic team in 2018 and the CDC epidemiologists who were let go from their roles in China due to the tariffs.

While the president has done a little better, his primary mission is to protect his brand name. A secondary focus is the stock market (which is his key barometer) and the tertiary focus is people’s health and lives. He makes decisions in that order of priority, which should scare the heck out of all of us. And, I truly wish all of what I said above is not true. But, sadly it is, at least in this independent voter’s opinion.

Taking Donald Trump at his word is a fool’s errand. It always has been. Keith

    • Thanks Keith. Yes, I heard that a number are either not carrying his pressers at all, or are excluding large portions. NPR led the way, and I would like to see all the networks refuse to carry them. We know we cannot trust a word he says, so why waste time watching him lie? I would also like to see just one member of his staff get up to speak at one of these briefings, turn to him, and say, “Mr. President, with all due respect you are willfully lying to the American public and I hereby resign”, and then all the rest walk out behind that one person. That’s a recurring dream of mine. His hatred and vitriol toward any who don’t tell him he is great, who don’t slavishly dump praise on him, or who, god forbid, have the guts to disagree with him, is sickening and disgusting. This is not what leadership is.

        • Well, I picked New York for they have the most cases in the smallest area at the moment, and I figure one out of every three people are probably corona-positive, so there would be the biggest chance of him contracting it. But, perhaps you’re right … I love New York and New Yorkers … my old stomping ground … and they are going through enough right now without having to put up with him.

    • It seems that the loonies are truly coming out of the woodwork, or crawling out from under their rocks. Yes, I literally cried when I thought how many people could have been fed by that discarded produce. Personally, I would like to see the woman put to death for what she did, and I’m against the death penalty!!!

  3. Aha! I had noticed the single post of music yesterday, excellent choice BTW, and was concerned that you may be under the weather. I suppose that anger is far better than illness these days, well actually any day, but too much anger is never good! Keep in mind the wisdom of Mark Twain : “Anger is an acid that can do more harm to the vessel in which it is stored than to anything on which it is poured.” If I have, as may well be the case, shared this quote in the past it seems worth repeating…often! In times such as yesterday, when all else fails to dispel the anger mayhaps watching the April 2003 movie “Anger Management” would help. Adam Sandler, Jack Nicholson and Marisa Tormei are the lead roles in a movie with a PG-13 rating (that being somewhat questionable at times) that will surely elicit some laughter. You may have noticed that it is difficult to be angry at the same time that you are laughing. In truth, the anger may not be entirely removed but at least diminished in intensity. Nicholson’s character has a line in the movie that has remained with me and though I might not be repeating it verbatim…”Temper is the one thing you can’t get rid of by losing it.” Now then, before I step down from my soapbox, I must admit to a certain amount of guilt on my part for unknowingly and unthinkingly increasing your anger by sending things that most likely inflamed it more. My most humble apology if indeed that is the case. This year we have already experienced a deluge of unimaginable events, sadly they are far from over, and most likely really just beginning. That is not the Prophet of Doom speaking, it is the realistic view based on the scientific knowledge that is readily available. Anger, fear, worry, even depression are going to plague us…possibly more than at any other point in our lives. We must not allow those justifiable emotions to overtake our minds. Amidst the gloomy darkness, there is hope and joy and best of all love to be found…they always are, but sometimes we have to look for them! My Propensity for Loquacity has become the Sermon on a Soapbox, please forgive me! I really should delete this now and offer a better comment, but it took so long to two finger type this that I will hit post comment. Before I do, I will finally say that you have written another post of things that need to be known and of things that need to be said and you have done it with your usual flair! Thank-YOU!

    • I must admit that Mark Twain is correct, but sometimes it’s better to pour that anger and try to expel it than to allow it to remain in the vessel. And yes, I’ve also noticed that it is hard to be angry while laughing, but the reverse is also true … sometimes it’s hard to laugh when angry. However you, sweet Ellen, know just how to make me laugh, so thank you! No apology necessary for the informative articles you send me, as I said in an earlier email! I’m so glad you didn’t delete your comment … it was perfect! ❤

      • Just for the permanent record, could I make a wee amendment to my comment? On the fourth line from the bottom…change the Insurmountable Sermon to the Sermon on a Soapbox. The latter has a much nicer ring to it than the former, don’t you think!?! ; ) Thank-you!!

    • Sigh. You are kinder than I am. I think the day will come when we in the U.S. will wish we had taken a nationwide collection to hire an assassin, but by the time we realize the full extent of the damage he’s done, it will be too late.

  4. I know it’s nuts, ur rants are totally justified! Some polls have Trump @ 65%+ approval rating WTF???
Trump is on air everyday pretending to save the country, meanwhile USA overtakes China as the world’s active cases, and over 1000 deaths… way to go Mr “President”.
Ppl are so desperate for money, willing to sell out the future of our country for a few pieces of silver. Evangelists wake up, Trump is not the 2nd coming of Jesus *Facepalm*.
If your really want to blow ur top, read what the bailout bill entails…. nearly 5 TRILLION to bail out corporations who don’t even need the money! CEOs will still get their bonuses, increase salary, golden parachutes, and lay off as many employees they feel necessary! Repugs fought hard to remove Chuck Shumer’s bill provision of not laying off any workers due to this pandemic. So unemployment rises and the corporations make record profits due to cutbacks…. never let a good crisis go to waste as capitalists say. I guess Repugs figured out a way to save the stock market….. at the expense of the working class. The budget deficit is expected to increase an additional Trillion per year for the next 20 years. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

  5. Your supermarket story reminded me of a story about a Toronto high-end grocery store that jacked the price of one can of sanitary wipes to a whopping $29.99! The Premier of Ontario, Doug ‘The Thug’ Ford went on the airwaves to condemn the store by name and to threaten large fines for that kind of price-gouging. I agree this crisis brings out the best and the worst in us. Stay safe and stay well, Jill!

    • Wow! $30 for a single can of disinfecting wipes! Shoot, I’ll make my own first! Or, go back to the old-fashioned way of spraying Lysol on the surface, then wiping it down with a rag! I can still do that! This is the first time I’ve heard something Dough”The Thug” did that I actually approve of! We’re all well here, John … hope you, Anne and the family are too!

  6. I’m beginning to think maybe a god DID send trump to earth to eliminate the entire human race and leave the planet in peace and beauty, that will eventually heal and the animals can enjoy freedom without the fear of man and his guns and the polluting of their homes and the endless wars and blood and most of all the stupidity of this insidious far right trump cult of people that must indeed be part of god’s plan. Mysterious ways solved!

    • There is something to be considered in that, but … we humans were well on the path to self-extinction as it was, with our poor stewardship of our planet, and it was only a matter of a few decades before we wouldn’t have water to drink or air to breathe. Sigh.

  7. Thanks for sharing!.. “The saddest aspect of life right now is that science gathers knowledge faster than society gathers wisdom”. (Isaac Asimov)… 🙂

Hope all is well with you and family…

  8. Watch your heart rate, it ain’t worth ruminating over.
The cease-and-desist letters sent to broadcasting stations seem sinister. Trump is mostly bluff, so I hope that’s what this is. And I hope those stations continue to broadcast the ads, bluff or no bluff, or we’re done for as a free country.

    Liked by 3 people

    • Sigh. Yeah, I know, but sometimes you just can’t help it. I am concerned that he is working diligently to stifle the freedom of the press, and his constant stream of disinformation isn’t helping. I would really like to see all the television networks stop carrying his live pressers, just provide a transcript with fact-checking. Yes, I fear our days as a free country, our days of no one branch of government having total control, are gone. We maybe have one last chance on November 3rd, but I’m seeing that slipping away, as well.

  9. From what I’ve seen from this distance he has basically gone on an ego trip, ignored it, ignored the science and blamed other countries. Which clearly appeals to some people. It looks a complete shambles. Boris has just tested positive. Compared to Trump he has been a colossus. Which is staggering.

    Liked by 2 people

    • He has indeed gone on a humongous ego trip and every day he says that everything he’s done has been perfect and that we must all show our appreciation and gratitude toward him. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I’ve never before wanted to leave this country as badly as i want to now. I just hope we can oust him in November. I had a dream the other night that I bought a canoe and the girls and I rowed to the Netherlands to seek political asylum!

  10. Maybe you do a day full of blogging about good people doing good things? Just to give yourself a break? The covidiots will still be there afterwards but you might feel better 😘🙋‍♀️🐝 hang in there…this too shall pass even though even I start to wonder how worse it can get 🤭🌻

    • That was David’s suggestion, too, but … it would never work … I’d see the news and my fingers would start changing direction … they have a mind of their own, y’know! I’m back on track now … just needed a bit of rest, I think. This will indeed pass, but I think all our lives will never quite be the same again. Sadly, here in the U.S., we have a fool steering the ship and I think he’s headed for that big iceberg. But, what do I know? Love ‘n hugs, dear Bee! 🙋 ❤

  11. 1) Coughing over groceries….Now y’see in a good socialist state they’d get locked up for 10 years of social re-education.
    2) Conspiracy theorists….Response ‘Go and commit physical challenging acts of carnal self-gratification’ (well that’s the polite response)
    3) High in the polls is he? As a Prime Minister of the UK, Harold Wilson once said ‘A week is a long time in politics’

And now especially for all you liberals, socialists. democrats and sensible republicans who want to confuse or drive nuts all those Trumpeteers, Alt Rights and plain obnoxious loud mouths:
When confronted by one babbling (well they normally babble don’t they?) about Coronavirus and or Trump, take the following action.
    1. Adopt a sage and calm expression.
    2. Look skywards as if drawing celestial inspiration.
    3. Draw in a small, soft breath.
    4. Say: ‘Y’know I am reminded of the words of General T. J. ‘Stonewall’ Jackson’ (at this stage you pause- while they try and process this concept) ‘Who said: “my religious belief teaches me to feel as safe in battle as in bed. God has fixed the time for my death. I do not concern myself about that, but to be always ready, no matter when it may overtake me….That is the way all should live, and then all would be equally brave.” …(pause for sad smile)…His will be done,’
    5. Then detached yourself with a closing statement…’Ah well I must be about my daily tasks’
The whole idea of this is to floor them with a statement they cannot argue with (confederate general, invoking God) and to have a calm air while not making a comment attacking Trump….. Their heads should spin around, and you will have the moral high ground.
(Us hard-line socialists have a whole bunch of sneaky tricks like that 😉)

  12. What can you say? The world is whackadoo, and the US is the whackadooiest. Oh, I meant the USA now has the highest number of Covid-19 cases in the world, and Trump is being praised by his pets. Maybe they think only Democratic SJWs are getting it, and soon only god-fearing GOP psychophants will be left by Nov. 3rd.

    Liked by 6 people

    • The U.S. is indeed the whackadooiest, and in more ways that one. We are going through the same as other nations, but it is made much, much worse by the constant stream of idiocy and misinformation that is being spewed by the orange dickhead in the Oval Office. Sigh.
