Running While Black?

The most heinous crime I can imagine was committed three months ago in the State of Georgia, where a gun-lovin’ racist, Brian Kemp, is governor. This is the stuff of the mid-1950s, not the 21st century!!! Our friend Jeff is as incensed as I am, and he has written a passionate piece about the brutal slaying of Ahmaud Arbery, a black man gunned down for no reason by a couple of Georgia crackers. Thank you, Jeff. Sigh.

On The Fence Voters

Pissed. Angry. Distraught. Hopeless. Any of these words describe your feelings these days? Personally, I’ve had them all in the last 24 hours. And then I saw a video of a young African-American male gunned down and slaughtered by a couple of yahoo vigilante white dudes. My head exploded.

Another one murdered—this time apparently for having the nerve to jog down the street in the middle of the day. The nerve of this young man, right? How dare he run while black, in a white neighborhood? Doesn’t he know his place?

For those of you wondering what the story is, perhaps you haven’t seen the video yet. Ahmaud Arbery, a 25-year-old black man, is seen being chased by two white men in a pickup truck outside the city of Brunswick, Georgia. A confrontation occurs between the younger white man and Arbery, shots were fired, and Arbery is seen falling to…

  1. While this incomprehensible, why is the media playing this up, but not the police involved shooting in Indianapolis? Maybe because the policeman was African American? The mainstream media cherry picks what it covers, based on sensationalism, in my opinion. A white on black shooting is more to their agenda, while the Indy shooting gets downplayed because it was a black policeman. This is just one of the examples of why I, personally, have no use or respect for the mainstream media.
These two in Georgia, should have been arrested from jump. That DA letters stand more for “Dumb Ass” in this case than “District Attorney”. How could anyone in their right mind consider this justifiable? Seems like ignorance runs rabid in Georgia.

    • First, the Dreasjon Reed shooting has been widely covered in the media, though granted not to the extent of Ahmaud Arbery’s. Part of the reason is that Arbery’s murder happened in February … FOUR months ago … but was kept from the media and the public until just now. Second, the Reed case is being investigated, and I think there will be more about it soon. But, Arbery’s murder was so obviously racial that there can be no denying. Neither of the killers were law enforcement, though the elder was a former police officer, so there can be no claim that they were doing their duty. Would they have done the same if the jogger had been white? No way in hell. So, the comparison isn’t apples-to-apples. I will keep an eye on the Indianapolis shooting(s), though, and if there’s anything worth reporting, I will. Meanwhile, the racism in this country is getting way out of hand and I foresee a long, hot, violent summer ahead.

    • Mine boiled over … now it’s merely simmering. Sigh. They did arrest the father & son later, but the father is a former police officer, so my guess is that, just as in the Trayvon Martin case, the white dudes will walk away free. Sigh.

  2. Thank you for sharing!.. unfortunately, in spite of elements of world’s societies attempt to paint themselves as “civilized” technology has proven that in reality that is not the case… especially if one ventures into the land of the “good old boys”… 🙂

    • I read tonight that the father and son have been arrested, which is a step in the right direction, but sadly I don’t expect them to ever spend a day in prison. Sigh. You’re right, the land of the “good ol’ boys” … not much different today than in 1955. Good quote by Plato.

      • As I said, they tried to create a illusion of “how great thou are” but technology has shown it for what it really is… what was that line in a movie “you (as in they) can’t handle the truth”.. 🙂
