♫ Sunshine, Lollipops And Rainbows ♫

Lately, I’ve played some songs that were appropriate for the times.  I’ve played some great music.  I’ve played some sad songs.  But tonight, as my mood ranks about a 9 out of 10 on the grumpiness scale, I am playing a song that is nothing but pure upbeat joy.

I don’t even have much trivia about the song, so you’ll just have to listen and … smile!

The song was released on Lesley Gore’s 1963 album Lesley Gore Sings of Mixed-Up Hearts.  Composed by Marvin Hamlisch, the single was released in conjunction with Gore’s rendition in the 1965 film Ski Party. It was arranged by Claus Ogerman and produced by Quincy Jones. The tune peaked at #13 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Just listen … I dare you to smile!  😊

Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows
Lesley Gore

Sunshine, lollipops and rainbows
Everything that’s wonderful is what I feel when we’re together
Brighter than a lucky penny
When you’re near the rain just disappears, dear
And I feel so fine
Just to know that you are mine
My life is sunshine, lollipops and rainbows
That’s how this refrain goes
Come on, join in, everybody
Sunshine, lollipops and rainbows
Everything that’s wonderful is sure to come your way
When you’re in love to stay
Sunshine, lollipops and rainbows

Everything that’s wonderful is what I feel when we’re together
Brighter than a lucky penny
When you’re near the rain just disappears, dear
And I feel so fine
Just to know that you are mine
My life is sunshine, lollipops and rainbows
That’s how this refrain goes
Come on, join in everybody
Sunshine, lollipops and rainbows
Everything that’s wonderful is sure to come your way
‘Cause you’re in love
You’re in love
And love is here to stay

    • I’m so glad you enjoyed it! I didn’t listen to the next one up (it is usually around 3:00 a.m. when I am doing these music posts and I’m too tired to do any extra), but will do so tonight, as Keith also mentioned that one. So many songs are apropos of the times these days. Hope you are keeping safe and well, my friend!

  1. And what’s wrong with a sweet and innocent fun song?
    Good choice Jill! Toe-tapping happy.
My best memory of this is in the Simpson which Police Chief Wiggum is starting off on a car chase and decides he needs some music to help him get into the mood, he hits the button and this is the song, which he sings along to.

    • Yo HO!!! It brought you down from the tower! Hey!!! Look everybody!!! Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows (and Lesley Gore) were all it took to get Sir Roger down from the tower! (Quick … Jolly, Joyful … go plant more flowers in the tower!)

Would you believe that I never saw a single episode of the Simpsons?

      • Hah!
        (Secret smile, from behind cloak).
You have never heard ‘Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows’ sung in the ironic way 😉
‘Joyful sweetling! I know heather looks in place at the very top of that watchtower, but do be careful, it’s very high up……Oh I forgot…Yes silly me…You’ve got the wings….Well be careful of the strong breezes then,’

No Simpsons? Never mind…I never watch Family Guy.

  2. Jill, it is a fun song. What has always fascinated me about Gore is she sang “You don’t own me,” which is an anthem for women and so unlike her other songs. And, she gave up her career for an education. Keith
