Our friend Jeff from On the Fence Voters has written a thoughtful post about the current state of affairs in the U.S., or rather the ignorance that created the monster who created that state of affairs. There is much food for thought here, and I hope you’ll take a moment to read and consider his words. Thank you, Jeff!
The dumbing down of America began long before the current president rose to power. It’s easy to blame the man, but in this case, he’s merely jumping on the bandwagon and taking the ignorance to new and immense heights.
For all of his faults, and there are too many to list here, recognizing the stupidity of so many Americans and capitalizing on their failure to reach even the bare minimum of intellectual curiosity might be his most significant and long-lasting contribution to America’s decline.
All you need to do is scan the news every day for examples of how far we’ve gone from being the envy of the world to a country ultimately coming apart at its seams, flailing and hurtling head-first into a world of conspiracy theories, lies, racial division, and absurdity…

Good share Jill.
Y’know the trouble with reading too much history particularly those of the mid to late 19th centuries and subsequent centuries is your head begins to spin with evidence of selfish intolerance and nationalisms and you start to think ‘Hmm maybe authoritarian regulated empires aren’t such a bad thing,’

Thanks, Roger! ‘Tis true what you say, but of course only if the authoritarians are benevolent which, we can see from the same history, is rarely the case.

And there is the problem, hence the rider about spinning heads.

Too true … but sometimes spinning heads prevail. I’ve heard a few trumpeters say they wouldn’t mind if he became a dictator, for he is so … cough, gag, splutter … smart. 🤢

Yeah, I’m not surprised….
Never underestimate the following Jill:
1. Denial.
2. Loathing of the opposition.
3. Willingness to infuriate the opposition (this is used by the more astute).
Each of these will give rise to the most outrageous of statements.
Best response:
Say ‘Uh-uh/Mmm-mm’ and walk off….
OR if you want to shake their boots add…
‘See you in Hell then,’ and walk off.😉

That’s part of the strategy, certainly here. Reduce it to cheap sound bites and false claims. Sadly it worked here.

For many, it’s working here. Hopefully there are enough of us keeping our eye on the ball to override the others … fingers crossed.

Exactly so Jeff, The blight on the face of the Earth needs to be got rid of before he can have any more good ideas, I’m waiting for the arrivaal of his new book. How to Manage a Virus in 200 Easy Steps.

More likely his new book will be titled something along the lines of “How I Was the Best President in the History of the United States”.
