Jolly Monday … zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Monday-sleepy-2Good morning, friends … {yawn} … and welcome to Jolly … um … what the heck day is it?  Oh yeah, right … welcome to Jolly Monday.

Sorry … it’s been a rough couple of weeks … I seem to be spending a lot of time in the rabbit hole lately and not sleeping much.  But, let me just go change and I’ll be back in a jiffy.  Meanwhile, help yourself to some treats that Joyful has whipped up for us …

Perfect job!

A university in Germany is offering “idleness grants” to Germans willing to abstain from activity as part of research for an exhibition on sustainability.

The University of Fine Arts in Hamburg, Germany, said three people will receive the “grant for doing nothing” and be paid $1,900 to engage in a specific form of “active inactivity.”

The school said applicants are free to choose their own form of idleness — an activity to abstain from — and a panel of school officials will choose the three best pitches.

The applicants can submit their anonymous pitches until September 15th and will have to convince a jury that their chosen area of “active inactivity” is particularly impressive or relevant.

The application form consists of only four questions: 1) What do you not want to do? 2) For how long do you not want to do it? 3) Why is it important not to do this thing in particular? 4) Why are you the right person not to do it?

According to Friedrich von Borries, an architect and design theorist who came up with the program …

“Doing nothing isn’t very easy. We want to focus on active inactivity. If you say you are not going to move for a week, then that’s impressive. If you propose you are not going to move or think, that might be even better.”

All applications will form part of an exhibition named The School of Inconsequentiality: Towards A Better Life, opening at the Hamburg university in November. It will be structured around the question: “What can I refrain from so that my life has fewer negative consequences on the lives of others?”

Um … okay, then!  Let’s see … what would I like to ‘not’ do?  I know … I’ve got it … LAUNDRY!!!laundry

Meanwhile in the Netherlands …

The city of Amsterdam has a rather unique problem … they call it “wild peeing”.  Yes, I’m serious … stop laughing!  🤣  Apparently, people (most likely males, but far be it from me to come across as sexist!) have been pissing in public places.  So, the city came up with a solution …GreenPeesThey have installed hemp-filled urinals in public outdoor locations that were considered “hotspots” for public peeing around the city.  Called GreenPees, the urinals resemble planters and are filled with hemp.  As an added advantage over traditional public restrooms, they use less water and create green spaces for bees and other insects.

GreenPees-2Okay, hooray for trying to clean up the city and do so in an environmentally friendly way.  But again, at the risk of sounding sexist, I really don’t see how this helps women who are … um … somewhat challenged in this area?

Jolly has an announcement …

Jolly has something he wants to talk to you all about, so I will turn this over to Jolly.  Don’t be shy, Jolly … remember, these are our friends.

jollyUm … hi everyone.  Well, a while back … ‘member when I disappeared for a little while an’ I went to Florida and stayed with Uncle Larry?  Well, I was talkin’ to him, an’ then later to our li’l friend Benjamin, an’ … well, while everyone always thought I was a boy, an’ I just let ‘em think that, ‘cause I am sort of a boy, but … really, I feel like I’m a girl.  An’ so, after I talked to Uncle Larry an’ Benjamin, I came home an’ talked to Gwammie, and she tol’ me the same thing they did … that I am fwee to be me, to be whoever I want, an’ that she will always love me no matter who I am!  An’ so … well, I just wanted to share that wif you.  An’ … um … me an’ Joyful are still gonna get married ‘cause we are in love!  But, Gwammie says we have to wait ‘til next summer … just to be sure it’s what we really want.  So, you guys will all be ‘vited to the wedding, okay?  An’ you don’t gots to bring any presents, ‘cause we got everything we already want!

You said that very well, Jolly … I’m proud of you, and I love you!  And on that note, I think we’re ready for a few cartoons, don’t you?

Of course, we must have a cute animal video, too!  Today, I’m sharing a video of Robert Irwin, the late Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin’s son, as he takes us on a tour of the Australia Zoo!  He reminds me very much of his father!

Well, folks … much as I have loved visiting with you all, it’s time for us to get this new week started and do something productive.  I hope you all have a lovely week, and please … be sure to share those smiles, okay?  Love ‘n hugs from Filosofa, Jolly ‘n Joyful!

  1. Namaste, Miss Jill! I am happy that Joyful made such good treats for us and remembered the tea too! The green pee pots are gross! Who would use them specially if other people can see? That’s so gross and rude! I liked the Peanuts and Garfield cartoons and some of the other one. My favorite is the Australia Zoo video. I love Steve Irwin movies and I love “Crikey, It’s the Irwins!” too! I am so happy that Jolly can be a girl cause that’s what makes Jolly happy! You get 4 Thumbs Up! Do you remember how I do that? WNBHAK! Thank you and Bye!

    • Namaste, Benjamin!!! Joyful said to tell you she’s so happy you enjoyed the treats and she hopes you really liked the donuts with sprinkles, for she made them just for you! I agree with you about the pee pots! I like my privacy!!! I asked Gem about what cartoons you might like, and she told me Garfield and Peanuts were among your favourites! I know sometimes you don’t understand the ‘grown-ups ‘toons’, and I wanted you to have some that would make you smile. Jolly is happy, too, as is Joyful. You’re right … their happiness is the important thing! Thank you for the 4 thumbs up, but I must admit that I have forgotten how you do that! Remind me? Jolly, Joyful and I all love you … to the moon and back!!! Have a happy week, my young friend! WNBHAK!!! ❤ ❤ ❤

    • Heck, Roger … I’m still asking where 2019 went!!! You will have a place of honour at their wedding, for you are, after all, Uncle Woger! Glad you came down from the tower for a few chuckles! I think I have built my own dark tower.

        • Really??? You let them dismantle your tower??? Wow, Roger! They must have magical powers! I, on the other hand, am building my tower higher and higher so that if worst comes to worst, I can just jump off of the turret in November.

Nope, you can’t be cross with them … except when Jolly tries to cook and destroys the kitchen!!! 😉

          • Trump an’t worth the effort kiddo.
Nah, the whole reason for a tower is so that you can stare out across the lands before you, look down on those who have attracted your ire and say, in your best End of Days voice:
‘Little fools. You downfall is at hand. Berlin 1945 beckons’
            (It’s very cathartic).
I just sit on the tallest of the rockeries that pair built, the one with lots of heather and wait for a chill wind to come along. It works.
Just don’t mind what they do.😊

  2. Aw Jill, a wedding?……I have no idea what I said or did to inspire such shenanigans. Jolly and Joyful, although I do support our constitutional right to marry whom we love, if you two are in love, why spoil it all with a legal commitment? Like Gwammie said – wait until next summer and meanwhile enjoy some of the bacon and a few donuts to adjust your lipoproteins and sugar – they could be askew. You do know that cholesterol is one of our necessary hormones, don’t you? It promotes rational thinking. And, although sugar is today’s dietary ‘bad boy’, it sure is a fun food. I mean….who wants to live without those delicious snacks Gwammie provides every Monday?

    • Hey, the wedding was their idea … certainly not mine! But, according to Jolly, you encouraged him to be himself, convinced him that he only has to live up to his own standards, nobody else’s. I was really pleased with how much more confidence he had when he returned from your place! And, he’s happy … that’s the most important thing, yes? Er … um … she’s happy. That’s gonna take me a bit of time to get used to!

As for the bacon … sigh … Jolly only recently discovered bacon and has been gobbling it down ever since. Now, Larry, if you could talk to him about the health benefits of such things as apples, bananas, sweet potatoes, edamame, etc??? Gwammie also provides those nearly every night of the week! 😉

      • It was the sunshine…..sitting in the sun every day airing out our souls and touching the truth within. It always works. The journey is all about being the best Larry or Jolly we can be. Eda who? Beans and bananas? When Jolly was here we had bacon every morning with 4 eggs and then after supper a strawberry/vanilla swirl cone at our newest eatery – The Twistee Twirl. That’s why he/she came back to Ohio happy.

  3. Jill, since it is the Netherlands, their is a corollary ordinance to the “wild peeing prevention.” It reads, “please refrain from eating the yellow snow.” Keith

  4. Good morning! Wishing all the best to Jolly and Joyful 🙂 And I love the Garfield cartoon … in the house in Austria, we still have tons of old comic books from when I was a child. First I read them, then my cousins read them, now my boys are reading them. They are getting more dog-ears every time, and I had to throw away a few of them as they started to totally disintegrate, but they are a cherished treasure… The Garfield cartoon is one I remember from those old books. 🙂
Wishing you and everyone a good start of the week! Hugs&Cheers!

    • I’m so glad you dropped by for Jolly Monday, and that you enjoyed the cartoon! I am amazed that you can remember that one … heck, I’ve probably seen them all but cannot remember any specific one! But then, I’m ancient now and cannot remember why I went into the kitchen! 🤣

Have a happy week, my friend!!! Hugs ‘n Cheers to you and yours!
