Randy VanWarmer was living in England when he wrote this song at the ripe ol’ age of 18. VanWarmer was inspired to write Just When I Needed You Most by two events: his old car, that he loved and used for years, broke down on his way to work in Denver, Colorado, and he experienced a “devastating” breakup with a girlfriend. He wrote the song six months after that breakup, co-writing it with Tony Wilson of the group Hot Chocolate.
Just When I Needed You Most
Randy VanWarmer
You packed in the morning, I stared out the window
And I struggled for something to say
You left in the rain without closing the door
I didn’t stand in your way
But I miss you more than I missed you before
And now where I’ll find comfort, god knows
‘Cause you left me just when I needed you most
Left me just when I needed you most
Now most every morning, I stare out the window
And I think about where you might be
I’ve written you letters that I’d like to send
If you would just send one to me
‘Cause I need you more than I needed before
And now where I’ll find comfort, God knows
‘Cause you left me just when I needed you most
Left me just when I needed you most
You packed in the morning, I stared out the window
And I struggled for something to say
You left in the rain without closing the door
I didn’t stand in your way
Now I love you more than I loved you before
And now where I’ll find comfort, God knows
‘Cause you left me just when I needed you most
Oh yeah, you left me just when I needed you most
You left me just when I needed you most

I love the warm introspective feel of this song, reminds me of Rita Coolidge’s “We’re all alone”.
Cheers ❤

Heh heh … did Hawklad run outside, or don his headphones? Whenever I start to sing, the girls immediately put on their noise-cancelling headphones!!! Not bad enough I’m near deaf, but my voice carries the tale of 56 years of smoking!

Love the morning sing-alongs, Jill! 🙂 May I suggest “You picked a fine time to leave me, Lucille.” the next line “with four hungry children and a crop in the field, you picked a fine time to leave me Lucille.” (Kenny Rogers)
Those old songs really stick to ya… There are a zillion of them…. glad to be back in the blogosphere.

I’m so glad you’re enjoying the music, my friend! Ahhhh … thanks for the suggestion! Oops … as I was putting it on the list, I checked back through my previous posts and found I just played it back in March! Here’s a link to that one, though, if you should feel so inclined: https://jilldennison.com/2020/03/25/%e2%99%ab-lucille-%e2%99%ab/
It’s good to have you back, Gradmama!!! I missed you!

I had my email notification turned off, so for years I haven’t gotten anything from any of my people. A click of the key opened the flood gates and now ya’all are back! yay!
