I have played this one only once before, in July 2018. Now, as then, I think we all need a bit of relief from the things that fill our minds, a bit of a reminder of the simplicity of life. Who better to provide that relief than Winnie the Pooh and Kenny Loggins?
Who cannot love both Kenny Loggins and Winnie The Pooh? When you combine the two, you have … sheer magic! From Wikipedia …
“House at Pooh Corner” is a song written by Kenny Loggins, based on the popular children’s book of the same name. The song was first performed by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band on their 1970 album Uncle Charlie & His Dog Teddy and then performed by Loggins and Messina on their 1971 album Sittin’ In. It is told from the perspective of both Winnie-the-Pooh and Christopher Robin, and serves as an allegory for loss of innocence and nostalgia for childhood. It has since become one of Loggins’ most popular and beloved compositions, and it remains a staple of his live performances.”
House at Pooh Corner
Loggins and Messina
Christopher Robin and I walked along
Under branches lit up by the moon.
Posing our questions to Owl and Eeyore
As our days disappeared all too soon.
But I’ve wandered much further today than I should
And I can’t seeem to find my way back to the wood.
So, help me if you can I’ve got to get
Back to the house at Pooh corner by one.
You;d be surprised there’s so much to be done,
Count all the bees in the hive,
Chase all the clouds from the sky.
Back to the days of Christopher Robin and Pooh.
Winnie the Pooh doesn’t know what to do,
Got a honey jar stuck on his nose.
He came to me asking help and advice
And from here no one knows where he goes.
So I sent him to ask of te Owl if he’s there,
How to loosen a jar from the nose of a bear
So, help me if you can I’ve got to get
Back to the house at Pooh corner by one
You’d be surprised there’s so much to be done,
Count all the bees in the hive,
Chase all the clouds from the sky .
Back to the days of Christopher Robin and Pooh,
Back to the days of Christopher Robin,
Back to the ways of Pooh

I’m so glad you liked it, Liz! Yes, we surely do need this … another I like that seems to help in these times is “Rainbow Connection” as sung by Kermit the Frog!

Not Kenny’s biggest hit, but I’ve always particularly loved this song.

No, not his biggest hit, but like you, it has a place in my heart. Something about it just makes me smile.

Thank you Jill. I recently wrote a post called Words, Wonderful Words (https://joylennick.wordpress.com/) about AA Milne and Pooh. His work, read so long ago now, is so touching and beautiful and I was ignorant of the song by Kenny Loggins, so thank you for that. I love “Sometimes I sits and thinks and sometimes I just sits…”

I loved your post, “Words, Wonderful Words”. I had no idea about A.A. Milne’s son disliking the Pooh stories … so sad. I’m glad you enjoyed the song! Thank you!

That was great. Thanks, Jill. It was surreal seeing people sitting around like that with their children. Let’s hope we can get back to things like that one day. 🙂 — Suzanne

Listen to “Return to Pooh Corner,” where Kenny adds a verse from the viewpoint of a father. It gives the song some added poignancy and beauty.

As you say, how can it not be good with Pooh and Kenny Loggins! As I told Keith, it doesn’t hurt that Kenny L isn’t too hard on the eyes 😉 Glad you liked the song, my friend!

Never heard this one before but it’s a nice light song which will easily catch a child’s imagination. Nice one.

Jill, Loggins and Messina had some great songs, this being one of them. At first glance, you may think it is too childish, but that belies the adult thinking fondly of childhood. Loggins did some great work here. Keith

You’re right … and while it may seem childish, if you think about it, the Winnie the Pooh stories by A.A. Milne carried morals and lessons for all ages. I do love this one … and it doesn’t hurt that Kenny Loggins isn’t hard on the eyes, either 😉

I will leave the looking to you. If you get a chance, Loggins did a “Live at Daryl’s House” show with Daryl Hall. It was one of the better shows as they knew each other before. Keith
