Good Night

Mitch McConnell, Lindsey Graham, Matt Gaetz, Susan Collins, Joni Ernst and many other horrendous, conscienceless, corrupt members of Congress have been re-elected.  Worse yet, at this point it looks very much like Herr Trump will continue as the Dictator of the nation formerly known as the United States of America.  As of this writing, there are at least 65 million very stupid people in this country who have just signed the death warrant for the country and its 330 million inhabitants.  Thank you, assholes.

Filosofa is OVER and OUT.

  2. Certainly not the result any of us wanted to see. The others are right, the counting is not over (and nor are the legal challenges). However what struck me with Trump’s speech was how angry he seemed to be. I read that as being really pissed off that he was going to loose due to the postal votes. Stay strong my friend ~ sending you lots of thoughts. ~hugs~

    • I’m trying, Kim. Yes, it’s looking better … almost positive … for Biden, but … between Trump’s lawsuits & temper tantrums, and the almost certainty that the republicans will retain a majority in the Senate, I’m not feeling very hopeful. Sigh. Still, if Trump is ousted on or before January 20th, I will take a victory lap!

  3. I am with you, Jill, all the way 🙂 ! Many are, also people like me who live outside the US. As you quoted before “stupid is as stupid does”, and indeed people need to be judged by their actions.

Yesterday, the Globe and Mail (Canada) quoted a Trump supported who truly believed that Hunter Biden had conspired with Beijing to cause the pandemic…

Indeed, how can one even respond to that…If people cannot distinguish between facts and BS…
Democrats are all pedophiles…and involved in child sex-trafficking…. really? I have heard that here in SK too !!!! WTF, I have no idea where to start or how to reply!

…and who are those who should know better…who are silent and just vote for the trump dynasty?

Sending you some positive vibes. True it is not over yet and in times like these, you need your readers and your readers need to be brave and I observe that they are!

    • Thank you so much for your supportive words, Elisabeth. It helps. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that half this country would fall prey to conspiracy theories and blatant lies, but that seems to be where we are today. I felt your positive vibes and they really did make a difference, calmed me for a bit, reminded me that there are good people on this earth. Thank you. Let us hope this insanity passes … SOON!!!

  4. Don’t sink the ship yet, Jill, it may yet reach port. But the question is, has too much damage been done to save it? Every empire must come to an end, and America is no different. I just wasn’t expecting it in my lifetime…

    • Well, it seems a decent bet that Biden will prevail, but with the Senate remaining in republican hands, and with the temper tantrums (and lawsuits) Trump has thrown in the past 24 hours, and the threats of violence any day now, I think the damage is going to increase and I also think that Biden will be stopped at every turn from being able to repair any of the damage. Frankly, I think this nation is burning down, and people are simply too stupid to realize it, so they keep throwing more and more matches on the dry tinder.

      • I think the Dems did a very bad job on this election. They concentrated on Trump, and paid little attention to the House and Senate. Biden’s first two years are going to be spent as a lame duck. Hopefully that will change in 2022.

        • I think you are right. The results of the down-ballot elections are devastating, and even if Biden does win, he will not be able to do more than a small percentage of what we need him to do, for he will be blocked at every turn by Mitch McConnell’s Senate. Like you, I’m hoping the mid-terms bring change, but the Democratic Party is going to have to get off their ass and assume nothing, support viable candidates and support them fully and strongly.

  5. hi Jill, don’t give up hope yet, according to NY Times:
Here’s where we stand after a topsy-turvy election night, in which the situation shifted multiple times:

The outcome is unclear in six swing states — Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin — and all are still counting votes. We may get some final vote counts today, while others could take a few days.
“Biden’s the favorite, even if narrowly, just about everywhere,” Nate Cohn of The Times tweeted, listing five of the six states above (all but North Carolina). Sean Trende of RealClearPolitics agreed: “Would probably rather be Biden than Trump.”
The outstanding ballots are mostly mail-in ballots, which are likely to favor Biden, because more Democrats than Republicans voted early this year. He leads in the current vote count in Nevada and Wisconsin, while Trump leads in the remaining four. “I don’t think people have fully internalized how Democratic these mail and absentee ballots will be in MI/PA/WI,” Nate wrote.
If Biden holds onto his lead in Nevada and Wisconsin, he would need to win only one of three states — Georgia, Michigan or Pennsylvania — to secure a majority of electoral votes (and could still lose North Carolina).
The counting of ballots seems likely to be slowest in Michigan and Pennsylvania. Officials in Pennsylvania have said they expect all votes to be counted by Friday.
Even with Biden’s seeming advantages at this point, the country has never experienced an election with such heavy voting by mail, which creates significant uncertainty. It is entirely possible that Trump will retain his lead in the states where he now leads and win the election.
The situation in the Senate is different — and more favorable to Republicans. They appear to be in a strong position to retain Senate control, which would give them a veto over nearly all of a President Biden’s legislative plans.
Democrats needed to win at least five of the 14 competitive Senate races and have so far won only two. Six races remain up in the air. The only incumbent Republicans to have lost are Martha McSally in Arizona and Cory Gardner in Colorado.
Biden, addressing supporters after midnight, urged patience. “We believe we’re on track to win this election,” he said. “We’re going to have to be patient until the hard work of tallying the votes is finished. And it ain’t over until every vote is counted, every ballot is counted.”
Trump falsely declared himself the winner around 2:30 a.m. Eastern. He said he would call on the Supreme Court to stop counting ballots in states where he led, while urging more counting in states where he was behind. He claimed “fraud” (for which there is no evidence) and he called the election an “embarrassment to the country.”
Many of the state polls were wrong and underestimated support for Republicans — again. A big question in coming days will be why: Did polls again fail to include enough working-class white voters, as was the case in 2016? Or was it something else?

  6. damn it Jill, I am sick and tired of you calling people who vote for someone you don’t like “stupid.” What if I said that you were stupid for voting for Biden? Would you like that, or any of you for that matter? I obviously wouldn’t do that because I’m not that person and I thought you were better than that but I guess I’ve been wrong all this time.
I can no longer abide your intolerance for people who have a different opinion from your own mainstream media driven opinions on the events of the day.
This calling people “stupid” is further demonstration that it is really the left and progressives who are the intolerant hipocrits.
Enjoy your nice little echo chamber where everyone agrees with what you post and the only opinion you really want to hear is the one that doesn’t go outside of the narrative of the day or takes into consideration other sources deemed not worthy of such consideration because they don’t fall in line with the current group think of the day.

    • Y’know, Scott … I am equally sick of the personal attacks. I’m at a loss to explain why you still read my blog, since every damn thing I say seems to disgust you so much.

This is not simply a matter of different opinions, but is a matter of saving this nation from a dictatorship, from a stupid ‘man’ who would destroy not only this country, but the world. This is more than just political disagreement — it is the lives of your children and mine.

I stand by calling anybody who voted for Trump this time around ‘stupid’, or as Mary said, if you prefer, ‘ignorant’, and with good reason! They have not bothered to try to understand the things that Trump has destroyed, such as rolling back environmental regulations, condemning and banning immigrants, ignoring a deadly pandemic that has cost a quarter of a million lives, and taking away people’s medical insurance, to name but a few. And his fat little fingers are on the nuclear buttons. What could possibly go wrong, eh? So, people who are too damn lazy to try to understand, who fall for his rhetoric about ‘socialism’, ‘antifa’, and all the rest, who applaud his calls for violence … they are, in my book, STUPID.

Last warning, Scott — don’t attack me or my readers personally — I’m tired of it. If you don’t like what I say, feel free to a rebuttal, but DO NOT attack verbally. If that’s the only way you can respond, then go find another blog to read.

    • I wouldn’t usually call someone I was voting against an idiot just because they held a different opinion to me.I have opted to do so this time because of the damage they’re doing to America by voting for Trump. Thee has been four years worth of lies during his reign,, he’s setting the environmenrt back on a path of destruction by removing most of the regulations back at the EPA. he’s offended and moved away frrom most of America’s traditional allies, taken America out of the WHO and made such a mess of controlling the Coronavirus that about 230,000 people have died but he ignores that and tells people the Coronavirus has gone while it’s actually spiking and killing about 1000 a day.
How would you consider the people who want to continue this (and more) for another four years?

      • Jill, we have a very uninformed electorate in our country on both sides. Yet, I understand your frustration. The president’s corrupt and deceitful behavior has been his history, so he is doing nothing different today, than he did before he was elected. The sad part is this should not have been a surprise. He won because his opponent also had a lot of baggage and he got people to focus more on her baggage than his.

What he is doing right now is not a surprise. He is a very litigious person and his companies averaged 1 1/2 lawsuits per week over his business career. Yet, what we lose sight of is his sowing the seeds of chaos. He has been stage setting this very course for other six months by defaming the postal service and mail-in voting process without proof or shame.

Yet, the best window as to why he should not be given four more years, is he has the highest turnover rate of any president, he has many unfilled positions, he has many unvetted department heads and he has a removed any Inspectors general or public servants who have testified of their concerns. As David Brooks says the Trump White House is “equal parts chaos and incompetence.”

Republicans lamented when General James Mattis left as Sec of Defense, as he seemed to be a steadying influence on the ship of chaos. He was yet one more key appointment who had enough.

Biden is not perfect and has made some mistakes, but as Mattis noted, the current president does not even try to bring us together. Biden will be best suited to do such after this election counting is concluded. If the president comes out of this process as the victor, which is possible, we will be in for even more trouble as the president is also one of the most vindictive people in the western world.

        • Thanks for your wise words, my friend. No, nothing Trump does surprises me anymore. I’ve learned to largely overlook it … his behaviour became boring long ago. What disappoints me the most is that even more people seem to be voting for him today — after he has proven that he is a divider, not a uniter. After he has proven he is a racist and that he does not see himself as responsible to the nation as a whole, but only to those who support him. After he has made us far less respected than at any time since WWII in the global community. All this, plus the lies, the dishonesty … and his base has expanded. HOW??? WHY??? This is what is causing me to lose faith in the people of this nation. If you haven’t already seen it, take a look at John Pavlovitz’ latest post: https://johnpavlovitz.com/2020/11/05/we-were-wrong-about-america/ His sentiments echo mine. Sigh.

  7. Like Jill, I’m seeing the glass half empty here. The few remaining undecided states all lean heavily toward Trump. Der Fuher is well along on his way to his lifelong reign–with Ivanka or Don Jr. ready to be crowned upon his death, as the Trumps and their devoted followers establish the new Reich. Overly dramatic? Having, for decades, been one with these folks, I think I know the depth of their misguided devotion. I’m sure that when the data from the exit polls are analyzed, we’ll see that white evangelicals–the demographic I was part of for decades–were the folks most responsible for Trump’s victory, and I know their way of thinking. More accurately, I know their tendency to–as I’ve said many times before–to outsource their thinking. Most of them have no idea what’s in the Bible they claim to follow. Instead, they simply parrot and follow what their leaders tell them. And those leaders who led their followers to Trump in 2016, throughout his first term, and on to his narrow victory in 2020, will continue their transactional relationship with Der Fuher–and profit personally for doing so. And now, confident that he need give account to no one, Der Fuher will continue to trample the Constitution and to truly establish himself as dictator. Republicans in Congress will be even more fearful of crossing him. He has the Supreme Court ready to back him on every crazy decision. He has tens of thousands of gun-toting militia types who will do whatever he asks of them, including firing on fellow Americans. I see nothing but dark days ahead. I hope and pray I’m wrong, but…

I am more confident tonight of Biden’s win, but with the Senate locked into a republican majority, the Supreme Court basically bought and paid for … the decency and integrity of this nation has gone up in flames. I plan to buy a small American flag later this week and pour gasoline on it and light it afire, just to show my feelings about this damn country. Your song titles are apt — I was planning to play Eve of Destruction on my music post if Trump won … still will if he wins. But, Bad Moon Rising is a good one too … thanks! And Mary? Hugs, my friend.

    • I am closer tonight to believing that Biden will win … he’s only 6 electors away. BUT … with McConnell & Co back in the Senate, will Biden be able to do the things that MUST be done to reverse the damage that Trump did? I doubt it. And Trump is throwing his bloody weight (god knows there’s enough of it!) around, throwing little temper tantrums and suing everyone to get the vote count stopped, reviewed, thrown out, or whatever keeps him in office and keeps the wolves away from his door. I have thought long and hard today, my friend, and I think that this nation has lost … big time. And half the people are too ignorant to even realize what they have done.

  8. Patience. There’s still a lot to go. I was disappointed to see McConnell and Graham get re-elected but there’s a lot to go. The AP has declared Arizona for Biden. He holds a slight lead in Nevada. He has a small but growing lead in Wisconsin. He’s been closing in on Michigan and wouldn’t be surprised if Biden takes the lead there too. All of Georgia’s outstanding votes seem to be in the heavily Democratic Atlanta area. This is closer than I would like, but there’s still a lot to transpire.

    • Thanks, Brendan. Thing is that now it looks like Biden is the likely winner, but that democrats won’t be able to swing a Senate majority, without which, Biden’s administration is very likely to perish in a sea of nothingness. Sigh. And I am still disgusted by the number of people in this nation who actually voted for Trump — I stand by what I said 24 hours ago … they are the epitome of ignorance, not beginning to understand what they were actually voting for.

      • I’m not as pessimistic.

For one thing we know at least one race in Georgia will head into a runoff, and hopefully two. If both races there head into a runoff, those will determine who controls the Senate.

For another thing, there are Executive Orders so I’m sure Biden will make use of some of those.

For a third thing, I could be wrong, but a lot of the things Biden is looking to do with COVID does not require anything legislative. And COVID is the big issue.

No doubt, the Senate results were extremely disappointing though. The Dems could yet gain a majority (50-50+a VP Harris) but it’s a narrow path.

        • I’m more optimistic today, too … looks like both Georgia and Pennsylvania are possibilities, and I think Nevada as well. If he wins any one of those states, he’ll have his 270. Although, I have concerns about Arizona … when they called it for Biden, it seems only 88% of the votes had been counted, and the ones being counted now seem to have narrowed the gap.

You’re right that he will be able to do much, just as Trump has, via Executive Order, though it shouldn’t be that way. But, in the immediate future, I’m more concerned about him being able to get any of his cabinet choices through the Senate … I think Mitch McConnell will refuse to help in any way, shape, or form. Hopefully, the rest of the Senate Republicans find their consciences, but I’m not holding my breath there, either.

          Liked by 1 person

    • I would bet money that Biden will win Nevada, and thus have the 270 he needs. But … with a republican majority in the Senate, and Mitch & Lindsey back in … I have no optimism for the coming four years … well, perhaps two, for perhaps by the mid-terms the people of this nation will realize what evil is residing in the hallowed halls of Congress and actually vote some of the rubbish out. But for right now … we are all losers. Sigh.

  9. You give up way too soon, Jilly! The mail-ins are everything. We knew this going in. Things are not looking that bad at 3:40 a.m. Biden just won Arizona. I know PA is key, as are Michigan and Wisconsin. I think with the mail-ins, we got this…then we can go to battling rednecks in the street. But, hey, I’ll take that. They’re a bunch of cowards. • No, I saw the handwriting on the wall. While it is true that tonight, Biden is within spitting distance of the 270 electoral votes needed, too much else is wrong — devastatingly wrong. And PA is still looking like a win for the Oaf in the Oval, but admittedly there are still mail ballots to be counted. But, Trump and his band of evil cronies will make life a living hell for Joe Biden — for us all — for a long time to come, I think. Sorry I missed your call today — I just don’t feel like talking to anybody. Maybe by Friday.

    • Thanks Roger. And now, 24 hours later, it is still undecided, but all Biden has to do is win any one of the four states that are still pending. Thing is, though, that there’s so much more wrong … Trump’s little juvenile temper tantrum, his suing states to stop counting votes, the threat of violence once Biden is declared a winner, and the fascists that were re-elected to Congress will ensure that we see no peace in this nation for a very long time, I think. Yeats’ poem is apt for our situation today. I’m torn between fighting even harder and giving up. 🐺

The re-election of McConnell and his band of merry jerks ensures that even IF Joe Biden is elected, he will have few successes and Moscow Mitch et al block his every move. Sadly, I don’t look for a democratic majority in the Senate, and from the latest results it appears that the democrats actually lost some House seats, where they had expected to gain a few. It all points to the fact that the people … at least half the people … in this nation have no social conscience, but are greedily sucking every last drop of life from this nation in order to satisfy their own baser instincts.
