♫ Peace Train ♫ (Redux)

A few days ago I played Wild World by Cat Stevens, and ever since, I have had this song hopping through the cobwebs of my mind.  I played this in March 2019, but that was 20 months ago, and somehow this song seems fitting for our times … not only here in the U.S. where our very foundation is being threatened, but in many nations on this planet.  One portion of the song …

‘Cause I’m on the edge of darkness
There ride the Peace Train
Oh, Peace Train take this country
Come take me home again

… strikes a chord, don’t you think?

Note to readers:  The past two weeks, it seems that many of the videos I play are not available to readers outside the U.S.  I sincerely apologize … I have no way of knowing until one of you lets me know.  I’m not sure if YouTube has made changes, or if it’s just been a coincidence.  Please do let me know if you are outside the U.S. and cannot view a video I post … I’m trying to figure out the problem and resolve it.

A National Remembrance Service for the victims of the Christchurch mosques terrorist attack, and all those affected by it, was held this morning.  Yusuf Islam, better known to the world as Cat Stevens, performed his 1971 song, Peace Train, and I cannot think of a more appropriate song for the solemn occasion.

Yusuf Islam – 29 March 2019

One of my readers, Anne, suggested it might be a good song for my music post, and I fully agree.  Thank you, Anne, for this perfect suggestion.

Prior to performing, he delivered a short speech, dedicating his appearance “to the families who lives were snatched away in that evil carnage while they were worshipping in the mosque two weeks ago,  To those shining souls whose lives were snatched away in that moment of madness may peace be upon them. Peace in this world may take a bit longer.”

Peace Train
Cat Stevens

Now I’ve been happy lately
Thinking about the good things to come
And I believe it could be
Something good has begun
Oh, I’ve been smiling lately
Dreaming about the world as one
And I believe it could be
Someday it’s going to come

‘Cause I’m on the edge of darkness
There ride the Peace Train
Oh, Peace Train take this country
Come take me home again

Now I’ve been smiling lately,
Thinkin’ about the good things to come
And I believe it could be,
Something good has begun

Oh Peace Train sounding louder
Glide on the Peace Train
Come on now Peace Train
Yes, Peace Train holy roller

Everyone jump upon the Peace Train
Come on now, Peace Train

Get your bags together,
Go bring your good friends, too
‘Cause it’s getting nearer,
It soon will be with you

Now come and join the living,
It’s not so far from you
And it’s getting nearer,
Soon it will all be true

Oh Peace Train sounding louder
Glide on the Peace Train
Come on now Peace Train
Peace Train

Now I’ve been crying lately,
Thinkin’ about the world as it is
Why must we go on hating,
Why can’t we live in bliss

‘Cause out on the edge of darkness,
There rides a Peace Train
Oh Peace Train take this country,
Come take me home again

Oh Peace Train sounding louder
Glide on the Peace Train
Come on now, Peace Train
Yes, Peace Train holy roller

Everyone jump upon the Peace Train
Come on, come on, come on
Yes, come on, peace train
Yes, it’s the peace train

Come on now, peace train
Oh, peace train

  2. Amen to that. When vids are not available, I often get to them by searching in a roundabout way, directly from where I am. Often, I can then view them. It has to be a US internal access control. Others I can’t see. Depends on the countries’ laws and regulation. I guess Cat Stevens is NOT universally approved of…..

    • Another reader, Michael from Germany, mentioned changing proxy settings. Now, I’m not a tech geek, so I’m going to have to look up how this is done, but I’m hoping to find a way that all my readers can see the videos. Heh heh … I’m sure he isn’t!

  3. Love the song. He is a great performer. By the way: For watching videos with geo restrictions i am always using proxy servers. You can find the settings for this in every browser, and will find proxy lists via Google. 😉 Thank you, Jill! Hope you had a wonderful celebrations of Thanksgiving! Michael

    • I’m glad you liked the song! Yes, he is a great performer and a good person, I think. Thank you for the info about the proxy settings … I did not know! Thanks, Michael … it’s just the girls (daughter & granddaughter who live with me) and I this year, so it should be peaceful!

  4. Jill, thanks. A very nice ear worm you have caused!! This song does have relevance today, especially this stanza:

    Now I’ve been crying lately,
Thinkin’ about the world as it is
Why must we go on hating,
Why can’t we live in bliss

    • Ha ha … just the other day I was thinking that it had been a while since I had planted an earworm! Oh, I so agree … it’s as if that was written just for the present time. Sigh. Enjoy your earworm!
