I can’t believe I haven’t already played this one, but according to my search through the music archives, I have not.
Always is a song by American R&B band Atlantic Starr. Atlantic Starr began in Greenburgh, New York with trumpeter Duke Jones, drummer Porter Carroll Jr., bassist Clifford Archer, percussionist and flautist Joseph Phillips, Sheldon Tucker, and three brothers: David Lewis, Wayne Lewis, and Jonathan Lewis.
This was written by the three Lewis brothers, and I’m afraid I have little to no information about the origins of the song other than that the brothers brought this to a 1982 album session, but it didn’t get included because the producer didn’t think it would fit in with their other songs. It ended up being their biggest hit. Go figure! The song hit #1 in Canada and the U.S., and #3 in the UK.
Always
Atlantic Starr
Girl you are to me, all that a woman should be
And I dedicate my life to you always
A love like yours is grand
It must have been sent from up above
And I know you’ll stay this way, for always
And we both know, that our love will grow
And forever it will be you and me, hey
Ooh your life is sun
Chasing all of the rain away
When you come around you bring brighter days
You’re the perfect one
For me and you, forever we’ll be
And I will love you so for always
Come with me my sweet
Let’s go make a family
And they will bring us joy, for always
Oh boy I love your soul
I can’t find enough ways to let you know
But you can be sure of course, for always
And we both know, that our love will grow
And forever it will be you and me
Ooh, your life is sun
Chasing all of the rain away
When you come around you bring a brighter days
You’re the perfect one
For me, and you forever will be
And I will love you so for always
Oh, you’re like the sun chasing all of the rain away
When you come around you bring brighter days
You’re the perfect one
For me, and you forever will be
And I will love you so for always
Ooh, ooh
I will love you so, for always

I can’t recall ever having heard this one before. Another one of my dead zones probably. A sweet little song though. Not Motown maybe but it’s OK.

Hmmm … just ‘OK’ … I’ll have to get busy here and try to do better … perhaps some Carpenters 😉 (just kidding!)

I thought you were going to give us Always by Irving Berlin – which is a great, great, song, one of my favorites.

Keith thought the same! Sorry to disappoint you both … perhaps I’ll play that one soon. I remember my parents always called that one ‘their song’, for I think it was the first one they ever danced to together.

Jill, I thought you might be going further back in time to this song by Irving Berlin. Patsy Cline and many others have sung this one. Keith
‘ll be loving you always
With a love that’s true always
When the things you plan
Need a helping hand
I will understand
Always, always.
Days may not be fair always
That’s when I’ll be there always
Not for just an hour
Not for just a day
Not for just a year
But always.
Days may not be fair always
That’s when I’ll be there always
Not for just an hour
Not for just a day
And not for just a year
But always…

It’s one of the most beautiful pop songs ever.

Bumba. I agree. My father-in-law used to sing it with his baritone voice. He used to sing at local places in Detroit, until he got a better paying job. On a long road trip, he and my mother-in-law regaled us with “Always” and other tunes like “Crazy.” Keith

I remember hearing it as a kid of course, but when I saw and played the chord progression I was amazed and still continue to be amazed by the beauty of the song. I’d post it but I really can’t sing it.

Awwww … sorry to disappoint, my friend! Yes, I remember that song well, for my parents called it “their song” … I think it was the first one they ever danced to.
