I went looking for soul food tonight … the kind you listen to and absorb, not the kind you chew up and digest. And I stumbled on a long-forgotten favourite by Freddie Jackson. Unfortunately, I find very little background trivia about the song. It was the second single from his debut album, Rock Me Tonight. Like his debut single, You Are My Lady hit #1 on the R&B charts for two weeks, and was Jackson’s most successful crossover single of his career, peaking at #12 on the Hot 100. It also reached #49 in the UK. And th-th-that’s all I know, f-f-folks! (My Elmer Fudd imitation needs work, yes?)
You Are My Lady
Freddie Jackson
There’s something that I want to say
But words sometimes get in the way
I just want to show my feelings for you
There’s nothing that I’d rather do
Than spend every moment with you
I guess you should know I love you so
You are my lady
You’re everything I need and more
You are my lady
You’re all I’m living for
There’s no way that I can resist your precious kiss
Girl you’ve got me so hypnotized
Just say that you’ll stay with me (you’ll stay)
‘Cause our love was meant to be
I promise to love you more each day
You are my lady (my love)
You’re everything I need and more
You are my lady
You’re all I’m living for
You are my lady yeah (my love)
You’re everything I need and more
You are my lady
You’re all I’m living for
I love your shine-shine-shine-shine
Let’s make it last until the end of time, yeah
You are my lady, yes you are (my love)
Everything I need and more
You are my lady
You’re all I’m living for
You are my lady (my love)
You’re everything I need
You are my lady
You’re all I’m living for
Wanna tell the world (you are my lady)
Back to my girl (everything I need and more)
Sweeter than the day of days before (you are my lady)
Ooh, you’re all I’m living for
I love the way you move girl (you are my lady)
I love you so yeah (everything I need and more)
Love won’t let me love you baby-baby (you are my lady)

Jill, great song. This reminded me of a rock song, which is more of a ballad. Are you familiar with “Lady” sung by Dennis DeYoung of Styx. It was one of their bigger hits. I needed to channel my inner rocker this morning. Keith

Glad you liked it, Keith! No, I checked out “Lady” by DeYoung and had never heard it before, but then, I wasn’t at all a fan of Styx, either. Rock on, my friend!
