My friend Kim, over at By Hook or By Book, published the single most relevant and important video clip yesterday that I have seen in ages. It is a 7-minute clip of Bill Maher, ‘telling it like it is’. Bill Maher puts every one of the knuckleheads who attacked the Capitol and our Congress on January 6th to shame, and he reminds us who the real ‘patriots’, the real people who are driving change for the better are. Please, if you watch nothing else today, take 7 minutes to watch this … I promise you will not regret it. Many thanks, Kim, for sharing this absolutely excellent clip with us!
Mr Waxman. A true patriot and hero.
‘Colonizers’…..Can’t spell.
And how did you think your forebears got to the US asshole?

Indeed, it’s people like him who have kept this country going all these years. We need more of him and far fewer of the clowns we keep seeing in the media today!

Very true.
Oh by the way Jill, seeing those V for Vendetta masks; here’s a snippet you may wish to use, you can e-mail to any late night show as well.
It’s a swipe at both the Right & Left numbnuts who wear them>
‘I wonder if they are aware they are celebrating a religious fundamentalist (ie Guy Fawkes), who wish to conduct a large scale terrorist act to set on the throne a strict Catholic King who would be faithful to The Pope,’
They are all therefore nascent supporters of Papal Authority and unwitting followers of Pope Clement VIII (2 February 1592 – 3 March 1605)
There that should mess with the minds of those who go about with the damn stupid mask, demonstrating their lack of any grasp of symbolism in History.

What a perfect quote … thanks, Roger! The word has lost its meaning, the meaning having been replaced with whatever they wish it to mean at the moment. We are filled with people who have no idea what it means to fight for your rights, no idea what democratic principles actually are. Sigh.

Their only concern is the right to do as they like when they like how they like.

Exactly! As one televangelist said, when asked how he justified his extravagant lifestyle supported by his congregation, many of whom had little … “God wants me to be happy and have nice things.” 🙄

Wellllllll, let’s dial back there to Matthew 19:16-30:
“All these I have kept,” the young man said. “What do I still lack?”
Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.
Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God”

Funny how those who would call themselves ‘Christians’ in this nation, particularly the evangelicals, have forgotten all that stuff that is in the book they supposedly follow, isn’t it? Sigh. And this is much of the reason I am not a religious person, for I noticed the hypocrisy at around the age of 5.

One of the harsh facts of Human ideologies be they religious, political or social (or any combination therein) is that you will encounter in some part a great lump of hypocrisy. Opportunism, discrimination, hostility and the rest will all sit there masked as doctrine but actually ignorant/wilful misreadings of the original ideas.
There is not one movement of any sort which has not been used to harbour these taints and as much as ‘True Believers’ can huff and puff and deny this, they are basically either lying, deluding or showing crass ignorance of the Whatever they espouse.
If you see Intolerance, Self-Interest, Brutality (verbal, physical or written)upon the weak or minority, Mob-Rule, you can be sure you are looking at a perversion of the original.

Agreed. Humans call themselves ‘superior’ to other species, believe they are dominant over all others, but the truth is, they are less noble and more flawed than any species I’m aware of, even the dung beetle!

Comment redux: I wrote this for Kim’s blog, reprinting it here for your readers.
An actual American unsung hero. Obviously from the same mould as John Lewis. Let these men, and so many others like them, become un-unsung. Give the children of today someone real to look up to! Don’t let them think Trump is the person to emulate.
Waxman needs a biopic documentary about him. A big Hollywood blockbuster, and I hate Hollywood blockbusters!

Yep, you’re right … people like Waxman and so many more are the true base of our government, the real people who deserve kudos. The rest are naught but trained circus clowns.

Thanks for the reblog Jill. Resentment and mistrust of politicians are at an all time high and it’s all too easy to forget the tireless efforts by true public servants.

My pleasure, Kim! This was just brilliant! All the grandstanding we are seeing today … it’s like being in a circus tent, rather than looking at a government trying to do their best for the country. Good to know there are still some dedicated to working behind the scenes and getting the work done, but their jobs are made harder by the fools like Cruz, Graham, Gaetz and Greene.

Jill, this is classic and dead on accurate. Grandstanding politicians like Ted Cruz don’t hold a candle to these folks. Gramm, Rudman, Waxman, Kemp, Dole, Bradley, etc. were all wonks that people listened to. Keith

Indeed it is! David sent me the link to this yesterday and I had to listen twice, for there is so much absolute common sense here! The grandstanders we see so much of today are clowns compared to the hard-working people you mention and more.

He and many others like him! Those who are actually doing the work of government while the peacocks are out strutting for attention. Thanks for sending me the link to this one … I am glad I didn’t miss it!
