Ranting … Again

I am disappointed and angry at a large portion of the people in this nation.  I really thought we were better than this, but the number of people who simply have zero concern for others is … overwhelming.  Those who still, five months after the election, have their heads stuck up their rears is astounding, but worse yet … compassion among those same people is dead.  I hope … I sincerely hope … that this nation can mend its broken fences, that people can learn to live together without hatred and bigotry, but each and every day the news makes that hope seem less and less possible.  I have three snarky snippets tonight … the first one is just for laughs, but the other two have sent me even deeper into the rabbit hole.

Still good for a few laughs

You just have to laugh when you read that former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany says that liars should be held accountable.  When McEnany took over the job of press secretary, the very first words out of her mouth were her first public lie … she said she would never lie to the press, and then she proceeded to tell lie after lie after lie.  So … should she be held accountable?  McEnany now works for … wait for it … Fox ‘News’, and as such she appeared on Sean Hannity’s show to discuss the controversy surrounding Florida Governor Ron DeSantis …

“It’s just really important to point out that the standard is so high to hold any of these news organizations accountable. You have to prove intentional malice. It is extremely hard to prove. It’s why 60 Minutes — It’s why the left, MSNBC, CNN, they get away with murder each and every day. They can say whatever they want because you can’t hold them accountable. It’s a travesty.”

Right, Kayleigh, and can we now hold you accountable for the hundreds of lies you told in your relatively brief tenure as press secretary?  How many lies did you attempt to feed the public, using the press as your bullhorn?  What a hypocrite!

Where did they leave their brains?

Yes, I know that rage and fury are self-defeating, that they don’t help anything.  But I made the mistake of looking at comments on one of President Biden’s tweets this afternoon and … I am furious at the ignorance, the stupidity, the blindness of some in this ‘country’.

The comments were on President Biden’s tweet reading …

Not one damn thing that should stir controversy there, right?  Not like the tweets of the former guy who cursed, lied, denigrated others, incited violence, and ranted in nearly every one of the tens of thousands of tweets he posted.  But yet, leave it to the fools and idiots to find a way to bitch …

And it went on and on and on.  You’ll note that not a single one of these actually addresses the topic of Biden’s tweet, but rather go off on their own agenda.  Yes, there were some positive comments, but at the time I saw the post, the negative outweighed the positive by about 2-to-1.  Is this really the nation we’ve become???  If it is, I want out … NOW!

Do these freaks not understand that they drive over those unsafe bridges, they ride the unsafe railways, they drink the damn tap water that is contaminated with lead?  Are they really so damned stupid?  Yes, the answer is obvious … it was, after all, a rhetorical question.

As I see it, there is no longer a “United States”, only a conglomeration of states peopled with both intelligent people of good conscience, fools like those above, and the majority of us somewhere in between.  I cannot be united with someone who, despite overwhelming proof and evidence, still claims last year’s election was “rigged”.  I cannot be a citizen of the same country as a person who is so ignorant that they are shooting themselves and their children in the foot by fighting against policies that will help them, their families, and future generations.  I cannot … I will not.

Naturally, I responded with my own snarky brand of vitriol … thus far, I haven’t been suspended from Twitter … yet.  Don’t really care if I am, if they are given over to the fools who haven’t got brains in their heads!

They’re CHILDREN, for Pete’s sake!

A child is a child, whether it’s your child or mine, whether it’s a John or a Jill, whether it is dark-skinned or light, whether it wears its hair in braids or has a buzz cut.  A child is a child and they are, each and every one, precious.  They are the future of this world, if in fact the world as we know it has a future.  And yet … the folks over at Fox ‘News’ seem to think otherwise.

Last month, the San Diego County Office of Education put out a completely voluntary call asking teachers in the region for their time. The reason: the city’s convention center will be holding as many as 1,450 unaccompanied children, all girls, as sponsors (usually a relative already here) are sought out for them. “We want to instill hope, instill joy, and show care for our students while they are with us, no matter if that’s for a few days or a few months,” San Diego County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Paul Gothold said according to Border Report.

By the end of the month, about a dozen teachers had signed up to volunteer their time, some of it likely after day hours, for these children.  A dozen???  That’s all?  Only a dozen out of how many thousands in the area?  But to the point … Fox ‘News’ seems to have a problem with this and decided to make it a target of their never-ending bigotry.  Their headline read …

“San Diego public school teachers to give migrant kids in-person instruction before their own students.”

The article included a quote from a parent in San Diego, who said that “what is happening right now is immoral” and asked, “Why are taxpaying students put last?” The article also quoted Rep. Darrell Issa, a U.S. Representative from California, who said, “The decision to provide in-person instruction to illegal migrants is outrageous and parents have every right to be angry.”

Fox anchors Shannon Bream and Bill Hemmer both treated the story as if they had uncovered some mass criminal investigation … the education of children.  Wow, way to show compassion, Fox!  But it didn’t end there, and to date Fox has covered this story some 30 times!  For additional details, check out the full story on Media Matters

  1. Thank you for sharing!!… you are dealing with a element of world’s societies that are “set in their ways” (before today’s technology)… change is in the winds (especially with technology) socially, climate, etc. and like “a drowning man grabbing at straws”, they are grabbing any ideology that will keep their way of thinking afloat…and there are those who wish to be in power that will tell them what they wish to hear.. 🙂

Life may appear to be a bit crazy at the moment “When one suddenly finds oneself in a swamp up to one’s armpits in alligators, it is difficult to remember the objective was to drain the swamp”, just remember “A home that is built with patience, understanding and love will withstand the strongest winds of difficulties and conflict , a home built with a closed mind, insincerity or haste will collapse in a mere breeze of discontent.” (Larry “Dutch” Woller )…. 🙂

    Until we meet again..
    May your day be touched
by a bit of Irish luck,
    Brightened by a song
    in your heart,
    And warmed by the smiles
    of people you love.

  2. OST news channels now have agendas. The BBC will cover overseas stories still quite well but now has a policy of never showing the PM in a bad way. It refuses to mention brexit. Stories are often just unquestioned repeats of government sources. But it works. I wonder if we are talking about the ignorance of those in charge, those reporting the news in places like fox or the ignorance of about 40% of voters who believe this crap.

    • Hah … if they are committed to not showing BoJo in a bad light, then apparently they don’t show him at all, for he hasn’t done anything right that I’ve seen! And … isn’t Brexit the main topic there? I think that the two are linked … the ignorance of the news stations like Fox and BBC and the ignorance of the 40+% who buy into it all. If nobody fell for the line of b.s. Fox and BBC promote, they would soon either go bankrupt or change their M.O., but there are always the fools who are too damn stupid to think for themselves, so they will lap up whatever Fox/BBC and others lay down. Sigh.

  3. How anyone can tolerate watching Faux News for more than a few minutes is beyond me … let alone suffering through Kayleigh McEnany!

I don’t start watching TV at all until 6:00 PM so I suppose I MISS all the really “good” entertainment. I do occasionally switch over to see what *crap* Laura Ingraham is spouting … and I say this honestly … I last for all of about 2-3 minutes. The fact that you can quote some of their idiocy is astounding to me!

    • I have never actually watched Fox, and I don’t think I could stand more than one or two minutes, either! I occasionally visit their website, but even that gives me a serious case of heartburn!

  4. Spot on rant, as usual Jill. Fox News, as I’ve always said, is a danger to society. They spew whatever they want, whenever they want. No accountability. Nothing. And they never show their viewers what’s really happening in the world. Yesterday, CNN, MSNBC, and the BBC(yes, an overseas based network) all were covering the George Floyd murder trial. Fox? The headline on the screen: Where’s Kamala? I guess it was some reference to her not going to the border or some other BS. Is it any wonder millions of people are dumber than a box of rocks? They choose Fox because they receive only the news they want to hear, not the news that’s truthful and current. An abomination.

    • Sigh. Thanks, partner. I’m … I’m … tired of fighting this fight. Ready to give it up … let the chips fall where they may. If Derek Chauvin is let go free of penalty, then I will know that this nation is naught but a bigoted, corrupt nation focused on those who have amassed great wealth and to hell with the rest of us. Sigh.

      • I hear you Jill. Yes, the Chauvin trial will tell us much about things will it not? I just hope every damn one of those jurors know what lurks if any of them decide he’s not guilty. The blood on the streets that will most likely follow will forever be on their conscience. I know that’s not a reason to convict, but damn it, we’ve all seen the video over and over. How can they not all agree that the man was THE significant reason Floyd died? I don’t know Jill…I just don’t know anymore….

  5. Jill, several of these folks are following the lead of the deceitful former president by saying “I think I speak for everyone…” The former president would often say, “everyone is talking about this” or “everyone knows.” In all three cases, they are incorrect statements and not even close to being accurate. But, also this phrasing is the former president’s way of arguing, not on issues, but on repeated words that mean little. It is not a surprise his followers follow suit Keith

    • Ah yes, I remember when he would say those things and I would yell out … “No, fool, I am part of ‘everybody’ and I don’t know that!” Sigh. Some of the stupidest people in the world must surely reside in the U.S.

  6. You have expressed my sentiments exactly!!!! . I am astounded by the ignorance that exists in our country!!!!
It’s so scary!!!!! Every time I watch a re-run of the attack upon the Capitol Building, I get sick to my stomach, I still can’t believe that these were our own American Citizens!!!! So much hate!!!!! It’s hard for me to comprehend!

    • Sigh. If I once had hope for the human species, I no longer do. I once hoped to show people that the only important thing is taking care of others, whether human or animal. I once hoped to convince people that money or wealth for the sake of itself has no value. I once hoped. I hope no longer. I have been wasting what little time and energy I had left … for nothing. Sigh.

  7. Well of course they would come out and say that. You can depend on the denialists to cling to the delusions that because it didn’t go their way everything Biden does is wrong. If he put up ‘Push’ signs on ‘Push’ doors, they’d spend all day pulling the durn things and blaming him for not making the doors ‘Pull’
We’ve got it over here. Corbyn was martyred by betrayers in his party while on the opposite side of the political mood anything going wrong with Britain / EU is not our fault it’s bullying by the EU.
Some folk just don’t deserve Democracy…. (I’m building another tower)

    • Ah, so this ‘splains why I saw a guy pulling for dear life on a door that was plainly marked “PUSH”!

Yes, it exists on both sides of the pond … I’ve heard of the new bill there to make public protest illegal, while here is it to make voting illegal. Sigh.

Oh and as for Jeremy Corbyn … he is a simplistic idiot savant!

Funny that you’re building another tower to go higher, while vexed by the same things, I am digging a deeper rabbit’s hole. I’ll send Joyful to decorate your tower this weekend. D’you think I might join you there? Sigh.

      Liked by 1 person

      • I’m kinda ambivalent about that bill. It doesn’t say actually all protesting will be illegal just gives the authorities more leeway. I have to wonder if the folk who make the most noise would concern themselves if an EDL (English Defence League- White Racists) protest was banned. That said its been compiled by Johnson’s government so as a piece of legislation it has to be suspect.
Yeah Corbyn has no clue about the matrix or narrative of British Politics. One of the saddest comments I saw on FB was this post of ‘The Sainted Jeremy’ as he is called here and the caption ‘I will not vote labour until this man is re-instated as an MP’- Big win-win for Boris either way…..They just don’t get it.
If Joyful can bring some plants and seeds that attract bees and butterflies that would be nice.
Sure you can join me Jill, just wrap up warm, it’s going to be a tall tower and for Covid reasons bring your own megaphone to shout down imprecations.

  8. I wonder at the obvious stupidity of Jimmy the Brit, of whom I’ve never heard, who could possibly think he speaks for me in wanting Trump back. I’ll lay odds that if he spoke to 10 Brits on most High Streets in the UK, 8 out of 10 wouldn’t want any Trump back.

    • I just looked at his account. I think he’s Jimmy the Bot, with a picture of ‘himself’ that suggests ‘he’ might be a gammon. Same automatic responses to every POTUS tweet, and others. Yet more than 6k followers – something is wrong with this country too!

      • Sigh. Something is wrong with the human species, my friend. In the past 48 hours, I have given up on any hope I once had for humanity, for the human species to open their eyes and realize that … we’re all in this together and that … lives matter more than that thing we call ‘money’. Sigh.

    • He is not alone in his stupidity, though I was surprised to see that he is a Brit. Sigh. People on both sides of the pond seem to have lost their bloody marbles and … I’m done. Just done. I cannot fight this fight any longer.

    • ‘Tis sad to see that even some on your side of the pond, people who really ought to know better, who have the lessons of history to fall back on, join and support our own idiots. Sigh. Beam me up, Scottie … PLEASE!!!!
