Dear Sir or Madam …
I would like to take this opportunity to remind you of a few things that you have obviously forgotten. You were not elected to the United States Congress to force your own will or vote for your own wishes, but rather you were elected to represent We the People, to vote in accordance with our wishes, not your own.
When you block legislation that would ensure we are all able to vote in elections, then you are not representing us, for nearly everybody in this country supports allowing everyone the opportunity to vote, to have a voice in our government. You may remember that we pay taxes in order to have representation. When you refuse to legislate gun laws that would make this a safer nation for us all, then you are not representing us, for the majority of people across the political divide have expressed a desire for stricter gun laws.
When you put the desires of a former president, whose whims should by all rights be irrelevant, ahead of the needs of the people you are hired to represent, then you do us all a disservice. In the business world, when you do not do your job well, your boss will fire you. We the People are your bosses, although you seem to have largely forgotten that, but we are forced to allow you to continue harming us until November 2022, which is the next date we can fire you. And, of course, you are trying to ensure that those of us who are dissatisfied with your performance will not be given a voice on that day.
You are letting us down in every possible way, but the worst part is that you lie to us. You tell us, as if we are children too ignorant to understand, that you are acting in our best interests, but you ARE NOT. The 2020 election was a fair and honest election, as you are well aware, yet you keep lying to us, telling us that there was so much cheating that the former guy actually won. Do you really think we are so stupid as to believe your lies? Where’s the proof? Show us the evidence.
You forget that it is We the People who pay your salaries, pay for your frequent trips home, and more. It is not the NRA or corporate executives, though they may donate more to your re-election campaign. You owe us, you do not own us. I, for one, am so disgusted with your behaviour, your inattention to the people of this nation, and your lust for power, your greed, that I am just about ready to renounce my citizenship and leave this country forever. But wait … I have done nothing wrong, it is you who are guilty of criminal neglect, of dereliction of duty, of lying, cheating, and stealing.
I have no illusions that you will find your conscience as you read this letter, for I think you sold it long ago, but I have had my say, and I will continue to speak loudly to fellow voters, to newspapers, wherever and however I can. And I will help ensure that my fellow citizens are able to vote on November 8th, 2022, so that your efforts at voter suppression will be for naught. I don’t know … I genuinely do not know how you sleep at night, how you live with yourself, for you are liars and cheaters … lying and cheating the very people who hired you and who support you.
Sincerely
Jill Dennison, voter & taxpayer
Note to readers: This is the letter I have sent to my own Senator Rob Portman and Representative Warren Davidson. I hope to also publish it as a ‘Letter to the Editor’ in my local newspaper. Feel free to edit and use it if you wish.
You are fantastic, Jill! Thank you for the efforts, but it has to be done, and much more Americans should do. Michael

Oh wow! Thank you, Michael! I don’t believe anybody has ever called me ‘fantastic’ before!!! I don’t expect any earth-shattering changes will come about as a result of my letter, but perhaps it will ping the conscience of one or two who read it. That’s all I hope for. xx

You are doing really great work, also with this. Even one some people are reading, it will have the impact it should have. I am sure, Jill! Have a beautiful weekend! Rantings out! :-)) xx

Thank you, Michael. You’re a special man. I will try not to rant (too much) over the weekend, and I wish for you the happiest, sunniest weekend ever! xx

:-)) Thank you very much, for your everlasting kindness too, Jill! Have a beautiful weekend as well. Please stay save. Here the Indian virus strain is arriving, and the Rabbit Plague (transferable to humans) has arrived at the beginning of April. xx

No worries, my friend … I don’t plan to leave the house this weekend, so I will be safe. I’m so sorry to hear about the Indian virus strain … I’m not sure if it has reached our shores yet or not. Have you been vaccinated yet, Michael? And … the Rabbit Plague??? Are you serious? I must do some research! Stay away from cute bunnies this weekend! xx

Thankfully, Google Translate did a perfect job with that article and I was able to understand it! Now you stay away from bunnies and do not eat any rabbit stew if you go to a restaurant! You have a great Sunday too, my friend! I’m still trying to finish up Saturday so I can sleep a bit before enjoying Sunday! xx

Dont worry, Jill! Here since years we are free from any restaurants. There are only Kebab stations, and Bratwürstl Shops. Lol Fast food to the max. Now our village had got the first public available vending machine ever. Lol I know it’s really “old style”. But it’s a novelty for this village. Just as important as the first moon landing. Lol Here is a picture of it, i had made on Friday: https://i.postimg.cc/W1fCzGSk/warenautomat.jpg

You really don’t have any actual restaurants, not even any burger (or, I guess in Germany, sausage) joints? WOW! Loved the picture … it looks very much like many vending machines in offices here, but you don’t see them out on the streets much.

Oh sorry, wrong explained. We have some etablissements traditionally called “Wirtshaus”, but during the last years they are opening only upon need. The owners cannot live from the continuous operation, so that they run the inns as a sideline. You must be lucky that these are open. You need even more luck to get something to eat. 😉 We have a kebab shop, which is now mainly operated as an amusement arcade.
For some time now, someone has stopped at our place every two weeks selling bratwurst rolls. If you are interested, we’ve been publishing a monthly magazine for nearly 20 years. Online and free of charge, with lots of images. http://www.issuu.com/smde. We thought that we could use it to boost tourism. Above all, we wanted to strengthen relations with our neighbors in the Czech Republic. No chance. 80% of the inhabitants here have been related by blood, for over 100 years, and they come from the former German areas in the Czech Republic. xx

Is it, then, a small town you live in? We are lucky … within a 3-mile square radius, there are at least 20 restaurants, ranging from a couple of Chinese restaurants, to a couple of steak houses, to a Mexican restaurant, a fish ‘n chips place, and other ‘casual dining’ places. All were closed for a few months last year, due to the pandemic, then they opened for carryout only, but for several months now have been opened for dining in, as well. We have not been out to eat since the pandemic began, out of an abundance of caution, but every Saturday daughter Chris brings home takeout from one of the above-mentioned restaurants.
I am definitely interested and thank you for the link! Several weeks ago I tried linking to the link on your comments — Oikos -Editorial — but was told it was a private website. I’m interested in what you do, where you live … I know so little about Germany that I always enjoy learning more! xx

It is actually the largest place in the district. Sorry, I had to privatize the site in 2018 because WP.com doesn’t want to explain some cookies. I always like to argue about my money, so I don’t want to offer any opportunities for attack. Significant fortunes have disappeared from my family. My father and politicians had “invested it well”. Well, the place is actually central. Just over 120 km from Prague. But we have many descendants of people who were previously expelled from the CSSR. You can imagine, that they want the former German territory back. Well, that’s why Prague is now further away for us than it was at the time of the so-called “Iron Curtain”.

You are making a difference – your thoughts are out there for people to see and think about – you/we may not see the difference but I believe that your voice may just spark a change for the positive.

Thank you so much, Ned. I hope so … if I make even one person stop and think about things from a different perspective, then I will feel it was worth it. You’ve given me a smile today!

Exactly!!! How can I just give up? It matters too much for our children and grandchildren … I see the potential for a disaster if the Republicans in Congress don’t wake up and find a shred of a conscience. xx

The Republicans have far proven they do not care. After they ousted Liz Chenney today, though she actually deserved it, proves the Republicans have gone over to the deep end of Fascism and do not care about the laws and rules nor Democracy. They only care about the power for themselves and their rich masters.

They tied their future to one person, a madman, and they should have to pay the price for their perfidy. BUT … instead, they are passing voter suppression laws that will ensure millions of us are not able to have a voice or a vote in future elections. Our last, best hope is that the courts strike these laws down, but I’m not holding my breath.

I hope you can tweak a few consciences Jill, if any of them have one. Every single Repub senator and Representative should get a copy of this and be asked to respond in writing as a record for 2022..

Thanks, David … so do I. I am probably spitting in the wind, but I cannot just give up, now can I? I have to keep trying. I considered trying to send one to each Republican in Congress … I may yet.

Jill, good letter. Thanks for offering a framework to use. By the way, I had an interesting encounter with an aide of a Republican Congressman which allowed me to respond with a rebuttal which I used in my title to my most recent post. “It is not a difference on positions – it is a difference between truth and lies.” Keith

Many thanks, Keith! I did read your post, and I fully agree … it is the difference between honesty and cheating, between integrity and lack of values. Sadly, I think the Republican Party has allowed the former guy to destroy it from within.

Thanks folks. Speaking of letters, here is one I posted today sent in to the LA Times by a Republican withdrawing from the party. This might get some attention of more followed suit and wrote in with their plans. Keith

Oh, Jill, you’re so sweet. It’s a great letter and noble intentions, but they’re not changing. As Peter Wehner put it in his NYTimes guest piece, “Today the Republican Party is less a political party than a political freak show. It is being sustained by insidious lies. And people who love America, starting with conservatives, should say so. Otherwise, if the Republican Party’s downward spiral isn’t reversed, it will descend even further into a frightening world of illusion.” It’s a good piece but after reading it, I don’t believe the GOP will reverse in the next few years. Hugs and cheers.

Thank you, Michael!!! Yes, I know I’m ‘spitting in the wind’, but … I cannot just give up and stop trying to make my voice heard, can I now? You’re so right about the Republican Party, or rather Mr. Wehner is right … they ARE a freak show, have been for quite some time now. Which, under ordinary circumstances would simply mean they would stop winning elections and either change their direction else fade into obscurity. But, this is exactly why nearly every state is passing voter suppression laws, for the GOP realizes full well that they cannot win a majority on their “Trumpian” platform, so … if you can’t win honestly, then cheat! Sigh. Hugs ‘n cheers to you, my friend!

Hello Jill. Well said, very well said. I wish you could supply these correspondences to everyone in all states to send to their elected officials. We need to also hit the local elected officials also as they are were the climb to the top begins. Hugs

Scottiestoybox beat me to the draw. Indeed, very well said. Every politician would do well to heed your words; sadly there are far too many voters in thrall to their lies who will continue to vote as their pappies and grandpappies taught them to do, without thinking. This system is far worse than any religion.

Thank you, Pendantry! Yes, as I told Scottie, sadly about half the people in this nation are perfectly satisfied with the status quo and unwilling to hold their elected officials accountable for their actions. I truly feel as if our voices are silenced, as if we have nobody to go to bat for us anymore.

So do I, Scottie … I wish everyone felt as strongly as I do about it all, but it seems half the people in this country just don’t care. Thanks for the compliment, though, and feel free to edit and use it if you wish! Hugs
