They Walk Among Us …

Some days I wake up and wonder if I dreamed all the lunacy that is part of the United States today.  And then I pick up my phone, check the news, and … nope, not a dream, just a horrible reality.  And then I wish I could just stay in bed, not ever get up again.  I have a feeling that the founders of this nation would be deeply ashamed of some of the people who inhabit it today.  More than a few times I’ve thought perhaps we would have been better off to remain under British rule, for obviously we are not capable of self-governance today.  Just a few examples …

Unfit

Marge Green, aka Marjorie Taylor Greene, ought to be sent back home to Georgia until she can learn to act as an adult.  She seems to believe that the way to get her point across is to run after people shrieking like a banshee.  I mentioned once before that back in 2019, before she was erroneously elected to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives, she ran after young David Hogg, a teen survivor of the Parkland school shootings, screaming questions at him and ultimately calling him a coward.  Hogg, more mature than Greene, kept walking and did not acknowledge her harassment, later saying “I was told growing up, it’s just better not to respond to bullies and just walk away.”  Which proves that at 19, he was more mature than Ms. Greene is today at 46.

The latest is that yesterday, Ms. Greene did the exact same thing to Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, familiarly known as AOC.  Representative Ocasio-Cortez left the committee chamber slightly ahead of Greene, and Greene began shouting at her, yelling her name, and when AOC did not slow down or turn around, Greene became belligerent, speeding up and screeching that AOC was supporting terrorists (she specified that she was referring to Black Lives Matter), and screaming …

“You don’t care about the American people. Why do you support terrorists and antifa?”

Members of Congress are not going to always agree, they will have differences of opinion, and we always hope they will find common ground for compromise.  But this behaviour on the part of Marge Greene is simply unacceptable.  This is not professional, it is disrespectful, rude, and borders on criminal harassment.  I read an article last night that called Ms. Greene’s behaviour “extreme anti-leftist”.  No, it is not … it is juvenile, it is disrespectful, it is immature and the sign of a mind that is incapable of coherent thought.  Greene has never been qualified for her position and I suspect the people in her district in Georgia thought they were being funny when they elected her, but there is nothing funny about this – Greene is a threat and a danger to this nation.  GET.  HER.  OUT.

Lunatic

If you look up L. Lin Wood on Wikipedia, the first line tells you most of what you need to know:

“Lucian Lincoln “Lin” Wood Jr. (born October 19, 1952) is an American attorney and conspiracy theorist.”

Among his most famous conspiracy theories to date is that of The Big Lie, as Wood claims, despite mounds of evidence to the contrary, that “Trump had won the election with 70% of the vote, and that a secret cabal of international communists, Chinese intelligence, and Republican officials had contrived to steal the election from Trump.”

On Tuesday, Wood stood in front of a crowd in South Carolina and said …

“Donald J. Trump has never conceded…because he won the [2020] election. So be cool—it’s all going to be good in time. Donald J. Trump is still the guy the military will call for the code if they need a first strike. Joe Biden is not the President of the United States.”

Somebody needs to lock this man away before he causes irreparable harm to his family and himself!  Perhaps he and Marge Greene could share a padded room together!

He went on to say that Trump secretly invoked the Insurrection Act of 1807 before leaving office and can begin “cleaning things up” in the United States whensoever he desires. Per Wood, Trump will be the instrument of “God” when he does so.

No, Lin, the military will not call on the former guy for a nuclear code, and in fact, the former guy doesn’t have access to the nuclear codes anymore!  And if he is an ‘instrument of god’, then your god is evil incarnate!  Surely people aren’t so stupid as to fall for this bullshit?  And no, your former guy is naught more than an instrument of a deranged set of minds, people who cannot separate fact from fantasy.

Murderers

On January 6th, thousands of white supremacist and other potential murderers stormed the Capitol as the Congress prepared to certify the election results of 2020.  They erected a noose outside the Capitol, they went in chanting “Hang Mike Pence”, and it was later said they planned to drive all members of Congress into the underground tunnels and gas them to death.  These are the facts.

On Wednesday, a number of people testified about that day before Congress, including Representative Andrew Clyde from the state of Georgia, who said …

“Let me be clear, there was no insurrection. You would actually think it was a normal tourist visit.”

NO, YOU ONE-MAN FREAKSHOW!!!  No, nobody with a conscience and a brain would have thought that was a “normal tourist visit”.  There was a noose.  There were 140 police officers injured.  There were guns.  There was violence.  There were five people killed that very day.  There was a noose.  There was death and destruction.  These were jackfaces who had been encouraged by the asshole of a then-president to destroy the normal processes of law and silence our voices, overturn our election where WE THE PEOPLE voted for sanity, for compassion, for a president who had a fucking brain and the capability to speak in complete sentences!

The Republican Party can go down in flames for all that I care.  Mr. Andrew Clyde can hang himself in his own noose for all I care.  They are a lot of hypocritical jackasses and I hope they every one get what they deserve!

And speaking of those who attempted to commit treason on that fateful day … I loved this Randy Rainbow clip about none other than the empty-headed Josh Hawley …

  1. Yes, the freaks in the GOP continue to roam free. Ironically, Ms Greene, if I’m not mistaken, basically ran unopposed in the 2020 election. The guy she was to run against dropped out several months before. So, I hope to holy hell she will be nothing but a blip in the night. Surely the people of her district can’t be that stupid to elect her again. Can they Jill? UGHH!!

    • Well, interestingly there were 8 other candidates vying for the Republican nomination, and she had nearly twice as many votes as the next highest one. But, in the general election, she had only one Democratic opposer, and he dropped out, polling at only about 25%. I have no idea what in hell the people in the 14th district of Georgia see in this bitch, but she has simply got to GO! Ironically, she’s still quite popular in her district! Says something about those people, doesn’t it? Yes, my friend …. UGHHHHHH!

      • In other words, it’s highly likely the idiot will get reelected. Remind me never to set foot in the 14th district of Georgia!!! Not that I would anyway. LOL

        • We can only hope that by November 2022, she’s finally crossed that red line, wherever it is, that turns the people against her. There is a Democrat running against her … I forget her name … that looks like she might be able to sway some. Heck, I want to visit the 14th district and just stare at the people, see just what these bloomin’ eejits look like and how they behave in public! 🤣🤣🤣

  2. Nero fiddled as Rome burned. Trump fuddled as America collapsed. The time has come to admit the Great Experiment has failed.
Not totally, some good things have resulted. Take those good things, and run away with them to places the insanity cannot reach. But leave behind the rest, for the best thing that can happen is letting the animals run the zoo until there are no animals anymore, and the zoo goes back to wilderness.
Then let the Phoenix rise up from the ashes in all its glory.

Meaningless drivel, I know, but how else can one respond to a present so outrageous the Greene Wood can be so infested with sick Clydes.

          • How can I be happy with anything that is not peace? I certainly do not want a civil war anywhere in the world, and I love the way Stephen Biko got the ball rolling against apartheid in South Africa. Have you read BLACK CONSCIOUSNESS IN SOUTH AFRICA? It is not a book per se, it is the transcript of a court trial in which Biko was called as a witness. The entire book is him versus the apartheid prosecutor, but in Biko’s testimony is the groundwork for peaceful revolution anywhere and everywhere. This book should be required reading in every school on earth. But being what it is, it is still little known. I came across it totally by chance when I used to work in a second hand auction house. It was in a box of books that came into the shop, and I was the lucky grunt who got to go through it. Apartheid always interested me, in a negative way. How could anyone want to treat their fellow human beings like chattel. Suddenly here was this book that spoke directly to the topic and against apartheid. It is not an easy read, there are passages where the court clerk could not understand one or other of the two proponents. But it is a necessary read. The last copy of it that I owned gave authorship to Biko, I think as a way to funnel some money to his family, but really no one wrote it. But the instructions on how to hold a successful and peaceful revolution live in its pages.
Stephen Biko was murdered by apartheid security forces in 1977, long before the revolution happened. But it was him, and mainly him, who laid the groundwork for its success. Whether or not it is available in British libraries I do not know. It is a very expensive book on-line, but really it should be free to everyone. In my mind, it is the most important book ever published, anywhere, anytime.
If you can get hold of it, I urge you, and everyone else, to not just read it, but study it. A simple read, if there can be such a thing, might impress you. But a deep study will open up ideas that the world needs, especially today in this post-Trump world.
I will not apologies for going on about this book. Without having studied it, I would not be me.

Have you ever heard Ladysmith Black Mombazo? They backed Paul Simon on his Graceland album, I believe it was. They performed at the Winnipeg Folk Festival in the era, and I loved to hear their call/response music. Just as Chris, Natasha and I bemoan the fact that our neighborhood is a high crime one, we have run out of space in our home, it is simply too much hassle to consider moving. Despite their faults (and they are many), WP remains the best venue. And, I’ve had a couple of friends who did move from WP and lost the majority of their followers. So … I’ll stay here for the foreseeable future.

If we were to move somewhere else en masse I doubt they would even notice. I think most of us have free accounts, so they don’t care about us away.
As for where you live, the criminal elements will probably move on. They usually do, once it gets too inconvenient for them. Hopefully Chris and especially Miss Goose (how did Natasha ever get that name?) will get to see a safer neighbourhood once more. The more things stay the same, the more they change…

That evolved to Goosey Lucy, which eventually became Miss Goose, or just Goose for short. She doesn’t mind it, laughs about it with the rest of us. She’s also called ‘Tash, and TK (Tasha Kate). Yes, neighborhoods evolve … this one was once pretty good, and in some ways still is. I like the diversity, for the majority are either Black, Middle Eastern, of Hispanic, and most of the people are great, but … as we saw a few months ago with the hostage stand-off and shooting … not all is peaceful here. We’ve had numerous shootings, but for some reason I still feel relatively safe walking through da hood.

Goosey Lucy, huh? There was probably an age she hated that one. If any of her friends had ever found out!!!!! Hoping she had friends, that is. I hate when kids don’t have friends.

Yes, she has friends … when she was young, she made many friends here in da hood, but although we’ve lived her 23 years, it is largely a transient neighborhood and they have all long since moved elsewhere. But, she stays in touch, sees them on occasion, and like me has a contingent of online friends. A few nights a week, they get online together and play games, talk, and have fun.

      • Well, it was 1968, I think, that John Brunner wrote a novel called Stand on Zanzibar. In it he calculated if each person was given one square foot of space, the entire population of the then world could stand safely on the island of Zanzibar. I have no idea where the present population of the earth could stand, but probably we could stand on Greenland, or Australia, with room to spare. That leaves 99% of the land masses on earth free of human habitation, Surely, somewhere, there is room for people like us, where we can live without the idiocy of right-wing proponents of the Big Lie, who own at least 85% of the guns in North America, not counting our standing armies, and more than half the soldiers in our countries are right-wing proponents too. There is space for us somewhere, we just have to find it. And, of course, send all those others to Greenland, though I do apologies to the Danes for usurping their very peaceful territory. I’d rather send them all to Antarctica, but someone might accuse me of causing cruel and unusual living conditions for those poor souls.

        • Um … I’m pretty sure I couldn’t live on a single square foot of space, my friend. I think perhaps in the long run the sensible solution is for humans to learn to live together in peace. Now, how we teach them to do that will have to be figured out by someone much smarter than me.

Oh and what about a major pipeline being shut down, causing gas shortages on the east coast? Joe hasn’t done a god damn thing to ensure that this doesn’t happen again. How do you like seeing people fighting at gas stations Jill?

And what about all the jobs he destroyed with the stroke of his stupid pen on his first horrible day in office by shutting down the keystone pipeline? I thought you cared about families, or maybe only those who voted for the current incoherent mess of a human?

As I recall this was caused by a cyber terrorist attack by a group called DarkSide. A cyber attack in this computer day and age is not something any president is able to solve with the stroke of a pen. It is an illustration as to how vulnerable we are in the cyber-reliant world.
And if you can show me evidence of the previous occupant of the Whitehouse being compassionate to the entire USA, as he was supposed to on taking his Oath I would be grateful (and not just one selective extract from one pro-Trump site either).

    • Dear Scott,
The Keystone XL pipeline is something that most Canadians do not want, nor most caring Americans. Fossil fuels are destroying our environment. It is time to reduce their use, not expand them. The only ones who want the pipeline are politicians, and the overly wealthy oil industry corporations. They don’t care about the Earth. The rest of us do. Allowing that pipeline will ensure the use of fossil fuels for another 500 years, or until the pipeline springs a leak and makes an area the size of Montana unliveable by human, animal, or fowl. Is that really what you want? Grow up, man. Think beyond your bank account. You can’t take it with you. You can’t spend it before you die. And you are going to die, like it or not. Just don’t take anyone with you. We will all die in our time. No need to rush us along.

  5. Jill, one of the bad things about social media is it gives too much credence to the extreme points of view. It actually makes the reader believe, well it cannot be all bad, as I am reading it online. So, conspiracy theorists have never had it so easy to reach the zealots out there (this why Putin has been so successful at it). Now, with gerrymandering, a sad fact even those who gerrymander realize too late, the zealots can win elections and bring their extreme views into chambers where governance is supposed to occur.

Conspiracy sites and gerrymandering allowed people like Boehbert, Greene, Cawthorn, Gaetz, etc. get elected. And, there are others who are right behind them. Plus, with a former president who has shown truth does not matter, these zealots will become more believed by a base who is not told they should really not trust what they say. Keith

Those you mention are the worst of the lot, but as you say, there are others as well. I was doing a bit of research on Greene earlier tonight, hoping to find that she has fallen out of favour with the people in her district in Georgia, but what I found is quite the opposite and it’s likely that she may well win her seat again next year. To me, this speaks volumes about some people in this country, that they are willing to risk the very foundation of our structure for the conspiracy theories, the screamers and cursers, the gun-totin’ fools.

  7. They have slipped over the edge. In their rage and blind bigotry against anyone who is not of their kind they have lapsed into the mob mentality. They are pushing and run the risk of the push-back in kind which they are probably not prepared for.
There are two sorts of terror. There is the quiet, implied state run terror which moves stealthy in the night, works on the 3am knock on the door and the disappearance. It stays for a while, maybe a long while but even it is not immune when folk turn.
Then there is the loud brash weapon waving terror, which ends up in the ruins of Berlin and Hiroshima in 1945, or the fields of Sailor’s Creek 6th April 1865

And here’s a part of the gospels I doubt if they care to read much:

    Matthew 31-46
31“When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the [c]holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory.
32All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats.
33And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left.
34Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
    35for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in;
36I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’
37“Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink?
38When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You?
39Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’
40And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’
41“Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels:
    42for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink;
43I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.’
44“Then they also will answer [d]Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’
45Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’
46And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
