Snarky Snippets — Continued

Lest you thought I was finished being snarky with yesterday’s ‘snarky snippets’, never fear, I have not yet run out of things about which to snark.

Back in 2016, I wrote two posts (links below) about Ammon Bundy, the head of the Bundy clan of thugs who illegally occupied the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in Oregon for 41 days.  He is a cattle rancher who has thumbed his nose at the law more than a few times.  And guess what?  He is running for governor of Idaho next year, despite the fact that at present, he is banned from the Idaho State Capitol for one year from last August after being arrested there twice in as many days.  Check out this newscast of his arrest(s) …

I don’t know much about Idaho, but if they elect this fruitcake as their governor, then I know it’s a state I will never want to even pass through on the way to elsewhere!  Oh, and Bundy was one of the people who was given a presidential pardon by the former guy … go figure.

7 Thugs Go Free — Blind & Deaf Jury

The headline read:  Ivanka Plays Dumb in Sworn Deposition and I had to laugh!  Ivanka does not need to play dumb …

I briefly mentioned yesterday that there had been another mass shooting, this one in San Jose, California, but at the time I wrote that post, there were few details available.  We now know that nine people and one monster were killed, the monster being the shooter who, according to police, then turned the gun on himself.  Co-workers say that Samuel Cassidy, who was an employee at the VTA facility where the shooting took place, he had a seemingly split personality, and a neighbor described him as ‘reclusive’.

The victims of this shooting are:

  • Taptejdeep Singh, 36
  • Adrian Balleza, 29
  • Jose Dejesus Hernandez III, 35
  • Timothy Michael Romo, 49
  • Michael Joseph Rudometkin, 40
  • Paul Delacruz Megia, 42
  • Abdolvahab Alaghmandan, 63
  • Lars Kepler Lane, 63
  • Alex Ward Fritch, 49

The shooter’s father learned of his son’s involvement and death from a phone call by the media.

President Biden issued a statement saying …

“Enough. Once again, I urge Congress to take immediate action and heed the call of the American people, including the vast majority of gun owners, to help end this epidemic of gun violence in America.”

We all know that he might have better luck wishing for the Easter Bunny or the Tooth Fairy to solve the problem of America’s gun culture, for Congress … at least the Republicans in Congress … have made it abundantly clear that they have NO intention of passing ANY form of gun legislation.

This makes 61 mass shootings in the U.S. in the month of May alone!  Get off your asses, Republicans, take off your damned blinders!  And voters – please note that your Republican members of Congress do not give one royal hoot about your life, else they would be working overtime to draft gun control legislation right this minute!  Instead, they are working to block any laws about guns.

Every Saturday, I receive a newsletter from Warren Davidson, the representative for my district in the U.S. House of Representatives.  Now, Warren is an ass, pure and simple – he is, after all, a Republican.  He’s also a member of the House Freedom Caucus, the most abominable of the lot.  But last Saturday’s newsletter had one point that made me literally want to smack Mr. Davidson upside the head:

“This week, I continued to build support for my new bill, the Fauci’s Incompetence Requires Early Dismissal (FIRED) Act. Introduced last week, this bill would place a 12-year term limit on appointees for Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, a post Dr. Fauci has held since 1984. Americans agree that Dr. Fauci has sown more confusion around the COVID 19 pandemic than he has confidence.”

Warren Davidson, a man without a single shred of scientific or medical education, knows more than the most well-respected expert in the field???  Hopefully, his bill will fail to make it out of the meeting room, let alone into the chamber for a vote!  Surely even most Republicans have better sense than Davidson!

  1. Jill, just highlighting Mr. Davidson’s efforts among others to paint Dr. Fauci has an evil man that did terrible things, when all he has done is serve the needs of his country. and adapt to new information. The sad truth is this is a concerted effort to white wash the history of the former president’s incompetent handling of the pandemic from the get go. Yes, something did move forward, but his naysaying the virus calling it a Democrat at the end of February in his pep rallies (admitting later to Bob Woodward that he knew it was dangerous as of February 7) endangered his own fans and other Americans. And, because one lie begets others, this naysaying, downplaying and slow moving contributed to the deaths of more Americans.

When the former president had a chance to truly lead us with the ball sitting on the tee in January and early February, he whiffed. As conservative Brooks noted early on, the Trump white house is “equal parts chaos and incompetence.” But, Mr. Davidson says that does not matter. To this day, too many are not considering the vaccine as they see that as betraying what turned out to be the political machinations of the former president.

    • Agreed … for the Republicans, it’s all about the former guy and what will please or displease him. Dr. Fauci, in my book, deserves a medal of honour for his tireless work, his openness and honesty. Warren Davidson and the rest of that motley bunch deserve a padded cell somewhere. Today, we have over 607,000 deaths in this country alone, and by my estimates, 2/3 of those could have been prevented if the leadership, ie the former guy, had been open and honest, had let the scientists lead instead of pretending and outright lying to us. Those who refuse the vaccine are putting us all in danger, for even those who have been vaccinated are not completely immune. Far too many in this country think only of their presumed ‘rights’ without considering the accompanying responsibilities.

  2. Is Bundy related to Ted, by any chance. If he becomes Governor does that mean we can expect him to run for President in 2028? Hopefully the country’s experience of electing a lunatic would work against that. Or maybe Davidson will have a go – he seems to have all the qualities the GOP admire…

  3. It seems possibl that any idiot can acually go after any job and be appointed so I wouldn’t rule Bundy out. He may end up the voice of the Cattleman’s Association though.
I’m devastated to earn of another mass killing where perhaps a schizophrenic has had access to guns despite all hte reasonable requests of parents, gun owners and most of the population to have a bipartisan bill for some kind of gun control. Guess at who’s door such a request stops and who funds the refusal.

    • Bundy and his clan are such despicable creatures … but then, today’s Republican Party seems to really like those deplorables, don’t they? The nastier, the better, such as Matt Gaetz and Margie Greene and … oh the list is endless.

Interestingly, this mass shooting got far less press than most do … no big-letter headlines, no ‘breaking news’ in the media, just small mentions below the fold. Are we becoming so inured to it that we are no longer horrified? Those members of Congress in the pockets of the NRA have blood on their hands with every single shooting that happens. Sigh.

  4. Hello Jill. Republicans hate Dr. Fauci because he embarrassed the orange man child simply by knowing what he was talking about. They hate that tRump was clearly wrong and someone who had a very strong science background knew so much more than a blow hard who hid his school transcribes. So the party that claims to hate cancel culture is desperate to cancel a skilled public servant. Yes Dr Fauci shows them all up. That was one reason Rand Paul tried so hard to take Dr Fauci down and failed so publicly to do so. Hugs

  5. Oh. My. Gawd! This info about Bundy makes my stomach turn. You’ve no doubt heard about the desire of “certain” counties –the more rural (Republican) ones– in Oregon (and even some of No. California) wanting to expand Idaho’s border to include them. Although the sense is that such a border shift is doubtful and certainly not likely to happen anytime soon, it is still a very deep concern for many of us. And to think that were it to happen and Bundy was its Governor … ?!!? I don’t think I need to write a word more.

    • Ah yes, I have heard about the initiative of some of the more radical elements to expand Idaho’s border, and I may have even written about it at one time. I don’t think it will happen, but then these days a lot of things I never thought could happen are happening. Sigh.
