I was determined not to do a redux tonight, for it seems I’ve done far too many of those lately … I’m getting lazy in my dotage! I was thrilled when I saw in a comment on another blog that our friend Keith had mentioned a song, All Out of Love by Air Supply and I thought I had found my song, for I love that one. But alas, I played it within the last year or so, and being determined to come up with something new and original, the search was on. With Air Supply now playing in my mind, I thought I’d see if perhaps they had one that I like but haven’t yet played here. BINGO! Found one!
Air Supply was formed by an Australian duo, Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock after they both performed in a 1975 Australian production of Jesus Christ Superstar. They took on other band members, who are credited on their early albums and appear on the covers, but eventually pared down to a duo. Say’s Graham Russell …
“We always had a band, and at that point, they always were in the photos, and they actually shared in everything. But there were a couple of small squabbles within the band, so we said, ‘Okay, we’ve got to stop this. It’s going to be Russell and I from now on.'”
The name ‘Air Supply’ was chosen as a contrast to ‘Heavy Metal’.
This song, released in 1981 was written by Norman Sallitt and included on the group’s album The One That You Love. I don’t find much background trivia about the song, and the one site that offered some background lost all credibility when they said the song was written by Barry and Robin Gibb!
The song hit #5 in the U.S., #4 in Canada, and did not chart in the UK.
Here I Am
Air Supply
Here I am
Playing with those memories again
And just when I thought time had set me free
Those thoughts of you keep taunting me
Holding you
A feeling I never outgrew
Though each and every part of me has tried
Only you can fill that space inside
So there’s no sense pretending
My heart it’s not mending
Just when I thought I was over you
And just when I thought I could stand on my own
Oh baby, those memories come crashing through
And I just can’t
Go on without you
On my own
I’ve tried to make the best of it alone
I’ve done everything I can to ease the pain
But only you can stop the rain
I just can’t live without you
I miss everything about you
Just when I thought I was over you
And just when I thought I could stand on my own
Oh baby, those memories come crashing through
And I just can’t
Go on without
Go on without
It’s just no good without
You
Without you
Without you
Without you
Without you
Without you
Without you

A very good song, first time hearing it. At first I thought it was their other smash hit, “Here I am, the one that you love♪
Air Supply is a really great band, please play more when you get the chance. Cheers! ❤

I’m really glad you enjoyed it! I read that the reason they ultimately added (Just When I Thought I Was Over You) to the title was because of confusion between the two songs. I will do that, my friend … any one in particular? Cheers!

Air Supply is one favorite bands, Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock are modern day troubadours, their love songs are unsurpassed.
You’ve probably played their hits before, my favs are “Even the Nights are Better”, “All outta Love”, “Making Love Out of Nothing at All”, “The Power of Love”, there are so many it’s endless ❤

I don’t think I’ve ever heard this one before. I’m not surprised it didn’t hit our charts – just about everything they did after All Out Of Love bombed here.

I’m not familiar with more than a handful of their songs either, but this is one of my favourites, as is “All Out of Love”. Next up … Tom Jones!

The only thing I can say in their favour is that they’re no worse than Tom Jones 😉
