We Have Met The Enemy …

Numerous things are weighing on my mind today and as I was scrolling through the latest news today, that old Pogo saying came to mind …

Georgians love ‘batshit crazy’

I foolishly believed that people, even republicans, still had some values, some sense of right and wrong, but that notion was dispelled this morning when I read that despite every horrible thing Margie Greene has done, the voters in her party still think she is great.

At the Georgia Republican Party convention this weekend, many attendees were seen wearing “We love Marjorie” pins and when asked about her appeal, more than 20 party activists and officials mentioned her disregard for political correctness and approach to politics as a “Washington outsider.” Many said they appreciate her willingness to say what she believes, even if it is inaccurate or dangerous — the same traits they admired in the former guy.

Some of the comments …

“If that were me up there, I’d be doing the same thing. Though she probably does it with more tact.”

“She’s very dynamic, very personable. She’s someone who’s different from the typical politician.”

“When you go to her district and talk to people about her, they’re going to tell you, ‘we like the job she’s doing.’”

My advice is to stay out of Georgia … there’s something toxic in the air there!

Da judge is WRONG!!!

I don’t typically purport to have greater intelligence or better knowledge than judges, but in this case I do.  On Friday night, U.S. District Judge Roger Benitez of the Southern District of California overturned California’s longtime ban on assault weapons, saying the state’s law was unconstitutional and that prohibiting such firearms for decades was “a failed experiment.”

The judge not only said that sections of the state ban in place since 1989 regarding military-style rifles violate the Second Amendment, but he compared weapons such as the AR-15 to a Swiss army knife, saying …

“Like the Swiss Army Knife, the popular AR-15 rifle is a perfect combination of home defense weapon and homeland defense equipment.”

BULLSHIT!!!!  Now tell me, which of these two would you rather confront?

California Attorney General Rob Bonta plans to file an appeal on behalf of the State of California.  I agree with Bonta when he says …

“Today’s decision is fundamentally flawed. There is no sound basis in law, fact, or common sense for equating assault rifles with Swiss Army knives — especially on Gun Violence Awareness Day and after the recent shootings in our own California communities.”

Let us hope that the appellate court has better sense than Judge Benitez!!!

The fox guarding the henhouse

You remember Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, right?  He’s the one who attempted to overturn the results of the 2020 election by filing lawsuits against four states – Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin – claiming that pandemic-era changes to election procedures in those states violated federal law and asked the U.S. Supreme Court to block the states from voting in the Electoral College.  He wanted the Court to simply throw out the votes of every person in those states!  His efforts failed, for even then-U.S. Attorney General William Barr, another Trump toadie, stated that there was no evidence whatsoever of the voter fraud Paxton and other blind fools were claiming.

At any rate, Paxton is back in the news and in my book should be investigated by the U.S. Department of Justice and charged with treason.  Why?  On Friday Paxton appeared on Steve Bannon’s program and said that if he hadn’t blocked a large number of postal votes in 2020, President Biden would have won in the state of Texas!  He openly admits to rigging the election!!!

“If we’d lost Harris County—Trump won by 620,000 votes in Texas. Harris County mail-in ballots that they wanted to send out were 2.5 million, those were all illegal and we were able to stop every one of them. Had we not done that, we would have been in the very same situation—we would’ve been on Election Day, I was watching on election night and I knew, when I saw what was happening in these other states, that that would’ve been Texas. We would’ve been in the same boat. We would’ve been one of those battleground states that they were counting votes in Harris County for three days and Donald Trump would’ve lost the election.”

NEWSFLASH … Donald Trump DID lose the election, and based on Paxton’s words, he lost by far more than we are told!  The people of Texas ought to be gunning for this asshole, ought to be demanding his immediate resignation!

  1. Greene is symptomatic of the confluence that built to Trump over years in the GOP and religious coalitions. The woman is insane, but bold knowing it wins. I think it’s time your states started filtering the water 🙂

  2. “Like the Swiss Army Knife, the popular AR-15 rifle is a perfect combination of home defense weapon and homeland defense equipment.”…..
Oh yeah…I can just see it now:
‘Due to defense cuts the National Guard and the Police are being re-armed with Swiss Army Knives,’
‘Protect your rights to bear arms. Join the National Swiss Army Knife Association today’
‘Honey? Where’s the can opener?…Never mind I’ll just use your AR-15’
The term ‘Asshole’ just does not cover it the statement from whoever this yahoo is.

    • Yeah, rather like saying a chain saw and a kitchen knife are just the same … “Honey, will you get the chain saw and cut this loaf of bread for me?” Or … “Let me just cut down that mighty oak tree with this here steak knife.” Oh the fun we could have with this one …

Alas, he is an idiot, but there are so many of them out there that it’s hard to tell them apart some days.

          • Created and played by Jason Sudeikis and Kristen Wiig during their tenure on Saturday Night Live. There are about 5 or 6 sketches on YouTube featuring their antics. So the story goes the ‘guy’ is based on someone Sudeikis knew- devoted to his wife but a complete jerk to everyone else. And for me Kristen Wiig is just….brilliant…. Yeah they would have fitted in the Whitehouse between 2016 & 2020.

  4. Jill, these are head scratchers, indeed. They also say a lot about a mindset with which I am not familiar. To me, those Georgians who support this congresswomen still are good examples of cognitive dissonance. When presented with obvious information that discredits the opinions of the congresswomen (usually from her own mouth or fingers), the disharmony makes them gain comfort from somewhere that it is OK the opinions are far less than accurate. • I know … that mindset boggles my own mind … I simply cannot understand it.

As re Judge Benitez who lifted the ban on assault weapons, I was reading tonight that when George W Bush nominated him in 2003, the American Bar Association deemed him ‘not qualified’ because of a volatile temper and a history of being rude, insulting, and unfair.

As re Ms. Greene … I think some people got used to a president who lied constantly and for them, blatant lying, conspiracy theories, and denigrating others has become an acceptable ‘norm’. That is what’s frightening … the more obnoxious a person is, the more those people like him/her. What are we, as a nation, becoming?

      • Jill, I put Greene in the same category as the former president, tending toward the untruthful, conspiracy bent. The conspiracy developers love these two people as they are easy targets for parroting their conspiracies. Fans like to say that the former president is just rough around the edges. He is far more than that – his actions have been untruthful, corrupt, and traitorous. And, as his former Secretary of Defense noted the former president does not even try to bring us together. Keith

  5. Despite the fact that Joe is in because he won, I’d have a recount done for the Texas election results and if the Harris County results bear out what Paxton says and based on his own admission, he should be immediately arrested and charged with interfering with the mail, treason, anything you can think of, and sent away for a long time.

    • Unfortunately, the ballots that Paxton withheld cannot be recounted for they were never delivered, thanks to Mr. Ken Asshole Paxton! He stopped those ballots from being delivered and now says that the reason is he knew they would largely have been for Biden. There’s no way that I know of to verify what he says, but I’m with you that he is guilty of treason and has NO RIGHT to hold public office! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

      • No but, I am going to try to be the voice of reason. The problem people are finding is, holding a general election during a time of a pandemic. It was hard for me to even establish that in my mind.

I know you do not like Trump, but, nor do I sometimes. I think he has a potty mouth, but hear me out on this one.

If you were Trump would you have stopped that election? Seriously, would you have turned round to a majority of people and said…. no… we are not having an election. And if this Paxton did not like the fact there was an election held during a pandemic; do you think he would have held things back too?

I mean, this is why I am worried about my own elections and whether or not people are bothered to even vote. It was a tough time. People did show up in huge numbers for your ballot voting and a lot of people had been blocked from checking the ballots.

Do you think that if that was Biden, he would have held the election? I mean, I do not like either of those ol’ foogies. As they are old and I think America needs new ideas, I think Pelosi is a dilapidated fish, but I like that Cortez lady. She has courage!!!!!

This seriously, is me as an outsider, saying your politics stinks as bad as the dilapidated fish, and you perhaps need some new people in there to inject some life into it.

    • Thank YOU for your kind words, your encouraging words! Some days I feel like I am spitting in the wind, that nobody is listening, so I’m chuffed when I get comments like yours. Thank you!

        • Welcome, neighbor! I have a number of friends in Canada, and frankly if I had the wherewithal, I would be seriously considering moving there! But, I know you guys have your problems, too.

            • I have a friend who lives in Alberta and he has been telling me quite a bit about Jason Kenney who sounds like he would fit right in with the Trump crowd! You’re right … the gun culture here in the U.S. is the worst anywhere in the world. And I tried to trade Trump for Trudeau a few years back, but not a single one of my Canadian friends would agree to the exchange! 😉

              • Sadly, Jason Kenney has become terribly unpopular in Alberta because he is not radically right enough for people there. Also, in Saskatchewan and Alberta many (most) would gladly trade Justin Trudeau for Trump. I would like to move further east, but overall Canada is a beautiful, wonderful country and I would never want to be anything but Canadian – even if I live in Saskatchewan or ever had to move back to Alberta . 🇨🇦

                • My friend in Alberta considers Kenney too far to the right! Anybody who would trade Trudeau for Trump needs to seriously have their head examined! I haven’t been to Canada, but I love what I’ve seen of it through pictures, and love my Canadian friends who all seem to have better sense than half of my U.S. friends!

                    • Ahhhh … that makes sense, then, for Trump was a big hero to the fossil fuel industry. No, my friend is about my age (70) and something of a 21st century hippie, very liberal like myself, very in favour of helping people, putting people over corporate profits.

                    • That makes sense then. Most of the people I know are oil industry or related to oil industry (like my husband works in a steel plant – usually in the oilfield pipe plant). Luckily my husband and I respect each other’s voting rights etc. And I don’t usually discuss politics if we are with others around here because I most would object to my views on politics, guns etc.

                    • You have far more will power than I do, for when certain topics come up, such as climate change, racism, guns etc., I simply cannot bite my tongue but have to give my opinion! Luckily for me, I have no hubby to argue with!

      • Do you think that people are just wanting to cling on to the ideology of Trump because things are so bad? I have been thinking about this, as an outsider. Even our own democracy is complex in certain aspects but we are not polarised like yourselves. We have about 8 parties and all of them are representatives in our parliament. But, furthermore —- this housing crisis is world wide. I just thought I may point this out. As some governments do not want to find solutions to the situation.

        • Well, if that is true, that people are clinging to the ideology of Trump because they think things are so bad, then they are fools, for most of what’s wrong in this country was either caused by Trump or made worse by him. We are getting back on track, slowly but surely, and recovering from the damage he did over the course of 4 years. 8 parties??? Wow! Where are you located, if I might ask?

          • Norway because here we believe in democracy. There are people whom are able to put ideas to the table all in the oath they take for the country. So they are able to, be more dynamic in the way they come across.

There has been polarisation in the past but some far right party …. which is not really that far right if, I am going to be honest called FrP has a female leader. So, thus, it is not really as far right as one may think. Trust me in the name of free speech this woman has said things and although I do not agree with her, it is nice to hear why she thinks the way she does. It is very good to hear an opposite side and approach to healthcare because some people will not say and will do whatever they want.
They come out with the absurd notions to not tax the rich and the companies to provide homes.

Whereas the central and left leaning parties are anti-centralised government and want local issues to be dealt with. The farming issues are one particular party, and the whole general mood is that we do not classify ourselves as Europeans. We are Norwegians. Proud and we are diverse. This is instilled into the children from the get go in pre-school.

I think that many parties are a good thing. There is diversity and a challenge in different areas, because polarised parties will just have their own agendas and will not represent everyone. Trust me, there are people whom are even more left than the centralised parties and they also have representation here in Norway. That is the red party and they have a seat and the leader is very very, concerned with activism for others.

It does calm the spirit of people having that much representation. It makes sure that people have a representative that can speak out for them.

There is a labour party here that addresses our work lives and we have unions that are not party affiliated.

The one thing we need right now is homes, not apartments but homes with gardens. The new government will probably build these homes and ensure we can have our own crops and grow our own things.

Trump may have had a big mouth but he reminds me of the lady we call Listhaug for FrP. If she did not say the things she did, the immigrants lives would not have improved. Trust me, she worked with immigrants and told them their schedule and what is expected of them. They know where they stand with her. Not all politicians should lie. They should try to be honest. Tell the truth and try to fix things and come out with some solutions.

So, I do not just blame my statsminister. I think I blame Europe most for thinking they can tell countries what to do with their labour force. I would want them to respect us and not exploit us. Sometimes you need that direction for a while to create jobs than overly priced lifestyle and no income. But I ended up paying 64% tax and seeing it go no where. I am upset about this because of the bureaucracy. But the welfare systems around the world needs reform.

The notion that we are about to go automotive and have robots or machines replace humans for jobs is essential you have the right people to fight for that right now.

Living in a tent, you find out people on low income jobs, live like this. It makes you feel sick to your stomach. But people whom are bold enough to represent people, are bold enough to represent the majority so it makes everyone a winner.
