I was loving some of the choices on Clive’s Tuesday Tunes post and considered playing one of those, but … that didn’t seem quite fair, for Clive did all the work! So, you should really pop over to his place and check it out! So then, I went in search of … but it’s sometimes difficult to switch gears and I’ve been in something of a foul mood all day/evening. Then I happened upon this one … and I debated, because it was only popular in the U.S. and Canada, and it was the only hit the band ever had, so I figured perhaps it would go over about like a lead balloon. But … thing is … I really like this song, for reasons unbeknownst to even me … it just … I like it! So, the choice is made, the die is cast, and feel free to opine and tell me I’m nuts!
Climax was an American band formed in 1970 in Los Angeles, California out of the ashes of the 1960s hit band The Outsiders. Though the group stayed together until 1975, they never matched the success they had with this song, or even came close.
I really have almost no trivia for this song. It reached #3 in the U.S. and #6 in Canada. The only excursion it seems to have made across the pond was to Australia, where it charted and #29, but no record of it in the UK or anywhere else in Europe.
If this song lets you down and doesn’t bring joy … do head over to Clive’s place, for his are sure to please!
Precious & Few
Climax
Precious and few are the moments we two can share
Quiet and blue, like the sky, I’m hung over you
And if I can’t find my way back home, it just wouldn’t be fair
‘Cause precious and few are the moments we two can share
Baby, it’s you on my mind, your love is so rare
Being with you is a feeling I just can’t compare
And if I can’t hold you in my arms, it just wouldn’t be fair
‘Cause precious and few are the moments we two can share
And if I can’t find my way back home it just wouldn’t be fair
‘Cause precious and few are the moments we two can share
Precious and few are the moments we two can share
Quiet and blue, like the sky, I’m hung over you
And if I can’t find my way back home, it just wouldn’t be fair
‘Cause precious and few are the moments we two can share (precious and few are the moments we two can share)

Oh gosh Jill! This is another song that Brad had put on one of my love song tapes when we were dating. 🙂 ❤ Haven't heard it in forever! Thank you! What a great song to go to bed on. And should I send Betsy to knock you out of your foul mood. 🙂 ((((HUGS))))

Your husband is more romantic than any other guy I know of! I’m so glad you enjoyed this one! Seems most didn’t care for it, which I expected, but I love it! Ha ha … if I see a cow in my backyard, I’ll know who it is. I may go out and borrow her bell … see where it leads me! Hugs, my friend!

Definitely a song of it’s time! 1972! I don’t remember it, but 1972 was the year I spread my wings and started Teachers’ College. Maybe there was too much going on for this to register….and maybe it wasn’t played here very much.

I suspect it wasn’t played there much, and in truth I was surprised to see it had charted there at all! 1972 … good ol’ days when we still had our dreams and illusions, eh? Hugs, my friend!

Your post made me take a look back at The Outsiders, who had a huge hit in 1965 with Time Won’t Let Me. But even that was not their first group, as apparently they were very popular around Cleveland as The Starfires, an R&B band formed back in 1958. Poor memory had led me to believe The Outsiders were a One Hit Wonder, but really they had a number of records on the American charts, though only a few reached into Canada. But reading their history showed how much talent they really had, for while The Outsiders were popular, some personnel were leaving to form other bands, such as the aforementioned Climax, and a big 70s group called the James Gang. These guys were definitely not OHWs. Wikipedia tell this story about them:
The music kept on coming…

Yes, in fact I debated between this one, or “Time Won’t Let Me” last night. Yes, the Outsiders did have more than one hit, but not Climax. Interesting history here!

After all those nice things you said about me I feel really unkind for doing this but…this has to be one of the worst big hit records ever! I’d never heard it before, and as it was a hit around the time I was most interested in the charts and listened to music radio a lot I wonder if they even bothered releasing it here.

Ha ha … no worries, my friend! I knew without a doubt that you likely had never heard this one, and that whether or not you had heard it, you would definitely not like it, so I was prepared! Y’know, you may be right that they never even released it there, but even if they had, I think it would have gotten a lukewarm reception at best. David must have hated it too, for I didn’t see his smiling face among the ‘likes’ 🤣

You know me too well! The fact that I’d never heard it, in the days when I listened to the radio a lot – it was always on while I was doing homework – is what suggests to me that it wasn’t released here: if it had been, its chart success over there would have got it airplay here. Clearly not a song to the taste of your Brit friends!

I suspect you’re right … the group seemed never to be terribly organized and didn’t last long at all. No, not to the taste of my Brit friends! I’m so glad you guys like Motown, though, or my music posts would have dried up by now!

I enjoy a high percentage of the songs you post, and not just the Motown ones!

I know you do, and I’m always happy when I get it just right! David typically does, too, but he must be off his feed this week, for he hasn’t liked a single one.

He was around for my Tuesday Tunes post, but hasn’t so far said anything about yesterday’s piece. Fingers crossed that he isn’t unwell.

I guess he just didn’t like anything I played this week, then. He’s not feeling great this week, but nothing too serious, I think.

Hope it isn’t serious and he’ll be well enough to dance around his nurse for next Tuesday Tunes 😊

Heh heh … I’m sure he won’t let the nurses stop him, for he has forbidden them to come any more … for now, at least … until his daughter says differently 😉

Oh no, not our Lord David!!! That’s why he ends up in the hospital at least once a year! A more stubborn man I’ve never known!

Oh … so it’s a nobility thing, eh? And here I was thinking it was a male thing! 🤣

By the way … I think you’ve been a good influence on David, for he’s started doing a few music posts of his own! Have you seen either of them?

Yes I have and have enjoyed them. But who’s to say that any influence was mine? Could very well have been yours…

No, I think it was you. I’ve been doing my music posts for over 3 years now, and it never inspired him to do his own. Plus, his format is more like yours … a number of songs, variety. I’m glad, though, for he is enjoying it.

Whichever, the important thing is that His Lordship is enjoying doing the posts and we are enjoying them too.

Ah, the Outsiders! I never knew Climax emerged from that group. “Precious and Few” was another of those songs made for junior high dances and learning how to move your feet while aware of holding onto another, after building the strength to utter those words, “Care to dance” in any variation, despite sweat emerging from every pore and square inch of your body in levels destined to break the Hoover Dam. Hugs and cheers
