I’m just now getting around to sharing TokyoSand’s cartoon post from Saturday … sorry for the delay! As always she has scoured the Internet and found the cream of the crop! The topics this week range from the strange Tokyo Olympics to the Republican’s about-face regarding the COVID vaccine to anti-vaxxers and much more! Thank you, TS, for pulling these together for us! Here is a sampling …

Jill, the Capitol police officers offered very emotional and compelling testimonies that flew directly in the face of those Republicans who have been lying to whitewash what happened. I will add both Cheney and Kinzinger served their country well today and flew in the face of GOP leadership who have paint brushes out. Keith

As we knew they would. I only saw a brief clip of their testimony so far, but I knew it would be compelling when I heard that Officer Fanone was going to testify. I have great admiration for Cheney and Kinzinger for standing up and doing the right thing, for putting country and We the People ahead of party loyalty, or … call a spade a spade … loyalty to Trump. The GOP can whine and accuse ’til the cows come home, but as far as I’m concerned they are irrelevant in this issue. They had a chance to be a part of it, and they blew it, so they need to sit down and shut up. The press also needs to stop focusing on what Kevin McCarthy, Louie Gohmert, Matt Gaetz and other say … it is meaningless drivel!

Jill, I agree. Each officer’s testimony was gripping and emotional at times. The Republicans have long ago opened Pandora’s Box failing to hold a corrupt and deceitful acting president to account. Now, they can add seditious acting to the mix. I started to call McCarthy’s office again and then thought, I have pleaded with him, my two Senators, my Congressman, and select other Republicans for three plus years asking what will it take to hold this person to account. It has been apparent to me that these folks care more about fealty to an autocratic minded person than their oath to the constitution. Full stop. Keith

I plan to watch part of the video of yesterday’s testimony later this afternoon … time just keeps slipping away from me! I am disgusted by those in McCarthy’s court claiming it was all Nancy Pelosi’s fault. Sigh. I fully understand, my friend … I’ve written so many letters and yes, I mostly get a response, but I don’t think what I’m saying to them is actually penetrating the fog surrounding their minds … I keep doing it, but it sometimes seems a futile effort.

That Texas one was so scathing. I heard about that bill in that state that’s trying to ban teachers from talking about why the KKK are bad. My jaw dropped when I heard about how such a law would even be discussed.

Yes, it was scathing and deservedly so! But in truth, it isn’t only Texas that is trying to stifle the teaching of the darker parts of our history. Cover it up, whitewash it, and then without a doubt we will repeat it. Sigh.

I’m certainly not surprised with Texas being the only state to even having a bill discussed. So much American history is whitewashed and I’m STILL finding out about various atrocities that aren’t talked about in this country.

You’re so right! Many people did not know until recently about the Tulsa Massacre, and you’d be surprised how many aren’t aware of the Japanese internment camps during WWII, or if they are aware of them, their knowledge is misguided. We MUST teach future generations not some whitewashed, rosy glowing history, but the dark, ugly sides as well. We must teach the ‘how’ and the ‘why’, so future generations never repeat the mistakes of our past.

Thanks. Those are good examples and even then there are aspects that are downplayed when they are talked about in school. I agree that these events need to be taught.
