Hell No, They Won’t Go …

Last night I read that a number of House Republicans are protesting the mandate that Congressional aides and visitors must wear masks, as per the U.S. Capitol Police.  Of course they are … that is all they do, is object to anything and everything. They are much like the annoying, obnoxious lawyer who jumps up and dramatically yells “Objection, your Honour” every time the prosecution calls a witness or asks a question.  I have referred to the GOP more than once as “The party of ‘No’” and this just proves my point.

The Republican members of Congress, with few exceptions, are parrots, repeating their chants over and over again, never speaking with intellect, never saying anything of substance.  It’s just a continual chant of “Hell no, we won’t go”Hell no, they won’t support the right of We the People, the taxpayers who pay their bloated salaries, to vote.  Hell no, they won’t support taking care of the people of this nation who have suffered financially and otherwise during this ongoing pandemic.  Hell no, they won’t tell their constituents to get the vaccine so that this nation might someday rise above the ashes of COVID.  Hell no, they won’t encourage people to wear a mask in order to protect themselves and others, for they won’t even wear a mask themselves.  Hell no, they won’t vote for an increase in the minimum wage such that every working person is at the very least above the poverty level.  Hell no, they don’t want an investigation into the attempted coup on January 6th because they are ALL complicit to one extent or another.  Hell no, the Republicans DO NOT CARE ONE WHIT for the people of this country.

I am sick and tired of listening to Kevin McCarthy telling lies that he knows are lies, as he tries to worm his way into the heart of only one person … the former guy.  I am fed up to the gills with Jim Jordan and his rolled up blue sleeves and yellow necktie (does the ‘man’ not own any other clothing?) as he continues to push back, without cause, against every single thing that President Biden and his administration are trying to do for We the People!  I literally feel nauseous every time I see the newbies like Margie Greene, Matt Gaetz, Josh Hawley, and Lauren Boebert pretend to be viable members of our legislative body, while at the same time toting guns into the Capitol, supporting conspiracy theories, and killing their own constituents by lying to them.

And what is being done to stop the madness?  Nothing.  Talk, talk, talk, and more talk on Capitol Hill, and nothing changes.  But it isn’t only the politicians … what the hell are We the People doing?  Nothing.  The anti-vaxxers are in the streets screeching about their ‘god-given’ right to refuse the vaccine, to refuse to wear a mask, but where are the protests about our constitutionally mandated voting rights being taken away?  The 2nd Amendment supporters are vocal enough, but where are the rest of us, those of us who believe that our right to safety is more important than their right to their killing machines?  Understand that I include myself in this conversation, for I’m not out protesting loudly, either, but merely sitting in my kitchen office writing a blog, occasionally writing to members of Congress to express my displeasure, and lying awake nights cursing at the ceiling.  We are, it seems, the silent majority.  Meanwhile, the Republicans are being heard loud and clear, killing whatever is left of this nation.  The Founding Fathers would not be proud of what we have become.

A few nights ago a friend left the following comment on one of my posts:

“And so America ends, not with a bang, but with a whimper. A voice from beneath the rubble, ‘I really didn’t mean to kill America. I just wanted to hear myself talk.’”

And you know what?  He’s not wrong.

  1. All of us will be complicit in the death of the American dream if we do nothing but talk. Haven’t been around for a few weeks…first had abdominal surgery then a week later was arrested for protesting the governor’s office for his lack of mask mandate in public schools when it starts back up next week. Court is not scheduled yet. Dunno WHY the governor was so offended by my protest sign. (it only said “Gov Stitt, the most do-nothing, lying POS in state politics is more concerned with his own penis than the lives of our children”. )

    • I’m sorry to hear about your surgery, but … WHOA SUZE … YOU DA WOMAN!!! Getting arrested for protesting for just the right cause! I love you, lady! You are my hero! High FIVES, Suze! ✋ I just read this comment to my granddaughter who laughed so hard and then said, I LIKE this lady! I hope your surgery was successful and that you’re feeling okay now. Keep up the good work, Suze! Love ya!

  2. Fewer than 24 hours after Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser celebrated her 49th birthday with a DJ and comedian Dave Chappelle, she officiated a wedding at The Line DC, a four-star hotel in the Adams Morgan neighborhood of the city.

Despite the mayor’s order, the wedding reception featured hundreds of unmasked guests served by dozens of wait staff, including a conspicuously unmasked Bowser.

    • I haven’t yet verified that what you say is fact, but even if it is … so what? Does that mean that you or I or our children should not wear a mask and be vaccinated? Does that mean you’re willing to risk the lives of your children, Scott, just because some other people at a wedding reception were stupid?

  3. Jill, you wrote: We are, it seems, the silent majority. — and yes, in many ways that is true. But when it comes to protesting against those who pooh-pooh the idea of the virus, mask-wearing, and vaccines, one must be VERY careful as these folk can turn violent faster than you can blink.

One can’t help but wonder why “personal freedom” is more important that saving lives …

    • You make a good point, and I wouldn’t want to stir up violence … there is enough of that these days. However, I also refuse to live in fear of these fools. So … I don’t know what the answer is, but we must somehow educate the masses, because if we don’t, they will continue swallowing the blatant lies, putting us all at increased risk in so many ways. Like you, I don’t understand the concept that one man’s ‘freedom’ in this case takes precedence over the lives of millions. But … perhaps Scott can explain that one to us!

  4. In Alberta, for the past few days, we have actually been having public protests against Jason Kenney’s stupid policies to completely open everything on Aug. 16th. This includes no personal protection for K-12 students in school classrooms, including teachers and other support staff, no more contact tracing for people known to have Covid, no masks on public transportation buses, trains, taxis, ubers, etc., and worst of all, no mandatory quarantining even if you have Covid! It took a lot, but finally the public is standing up to mini-Trump, telling him to take his do-nothing policies and shove them you-know-where.
What he, and other conservative/republican leaders are trying to do I have no idea. It’s bad enough they are killing their own voters whom they are lying to time after time after time, but now they are trying to kill the people who want to be safe.
And he says he is doing this in the name of science! He tells us he has scientists who have proven safety measures do not work. Obviously he got his science from Scientists For Sale: pay us enough money and we will say whatever you want us to say, even when real scientists will not. Our chief medical officer, who has fought Kenney since the pandemic began, has gone over to the dark side, and is agreeing with him. I wonder what skeleton Kenney found in her closet to blackmail her with?
But, my point is, We the People are having none of it. The protests are growing. It is time to take our health matters back. Hopefully our protests will spread across Canada, and around the world.

    • I’m so glad to hear you guys are standing up to that Bastard Kenney! He is, indeed, a mini-Trump, or maybe a full-blown Trump clone! And the ‘science’ he claims to be quoting he must have gotten from a gumball machine or a box of Cracker Jacks!!! Every scientist I have read or listened to says that even if you are fully vaccinated, you should be wearing a mask in public. The numbers bear them out, for the case surge is higher in areas where fewer people are vaccinated and more people stubbornly refuse to take safety precautions. I hope your protests do some good!

      • As do I. But knowing Kenny, he won’t care. He opened us up for the Calgary Stampede, and he wanted to be the first province to completely open up in Canada. He lost that one, as soon as he announced his intentions, the Conservative premier of New Brunswick opened his province the same day, lol, not two weeks down the road.
Poor Jason, I feel so sorry for him. Not!

        • The protests may not bother Kenney, but they will raise awareness among some who may not have been aware of how he is putting the people at risk. When next he comes up for re-election, hopefully you guys can make your voices heard far and loud and help get him voted out.

And why hasn’t he passed his electioneering promise to give the citizens of Alberta the right to recall any politician who they feel is not doing the job he was elected for?
This man is scared shitless, if you will pardon the expression. And he is reacting the way any mini-Trump would react, he still believes his people like him. If he can find a way to not call another election, he will not call one.
He is even giving a million dollars a month to two lucky people this month and next who are fully vaccinated, trying to buy favour. Knowing him, the lotteries are rigged. In the first million-dollar giveaway he phoned the winner two days before, and told him he won, but also not to tell anyone till it was announced to the rest of us losers. What kind of a lottery is that, when the winner knows before the draw is even supposed to take place. I’m betting if you are not a paid UCP member in good standing, you cannot win!

            • Your comment brings a few questions to my mind. So, are elections not automatic there, but they have to be called for? That seems that it would lead to a great amount of corruption and attempts at autocracy! And where is this two million per month that he’s giving away coming from … his own pocket? If not, and if it’s coming from the government, then he can’t take credit for it is the taxpayer’s hard-earned money! He is far too trumpian and needs to be taken out of office NOW!

              • Alberta is different from most Canadian provinces, and the feds too. The general rule is that you have to call an election within 5 years of being elected–Alberta made that four years. But yes, electric tons can be called within months of the previous election, and have been at times. In the multi party system few partys are given a majority, which means coalitions must be formed to create a majority. To create a coalition, the party with the most elected candidates is given first option to find a partner who will vote with them, but that comes at a cost. The coalition must tone down their own policies to keep their partner on their side. This is why Canada has so many good social policies, because our socialist New Democratc Party puts a high price on their help. The NDP has never been “in” power federally, but they have “power” nonetheless.
But getting back to elections, there are two main reasons for calling an early election: if a ruling party feels it has lost the will of the people, an elegant tin is called to find out what the people truly want; or, the party feels their ranking with the people is so high they call the election to give them another 5 year mandate–but the people will turn on them if they think the election is frivolous and unnecessary. Elections cost a lot of taxpayer money, so best you not be seen to be wasting it. Sure things quickly become sure losses.
Alberta puts a four year limit of the government, because the conservatives who are usually in power keep trying to join the USA. They want so badly to be Americans, with private health care. But the US, meaning your representatives, don’t want us Alberta. They know if they allowed Alberta to join the Union, they would risk losing their best friend. Canada would shut down the border, and that would mean no more clean water, and no more electricity, which are our two biggest trading commodities. Try to imagine if your power grid in the Eastern US lost its Canadian electricity. It would not be pretty.
But I’m rambling again. If you have questions, just ask.

                • Thank you for that explanation! That’s very interesting. Here, as you know, elections are automatically held every November, with every representative in the House up for re-election every two years in even-numbered years, and every senator up for re-election every six years, 1/3 at each general election in even-numbered years. And the president every 4 years, for a maximum of 2 terms. Are there any term limits on your politicos such as Kenney? Or Trudeau?

Is Kenney the only one who can call for an election, or can the Alberta provincial government call for one if they are displeased with him? You’ve explained everything really well … thank you, I appreciate it. If I have other questions, I’ll let you know!

                  • In my explanation, I never once mentioned our representatives of the ruling queen, or king as must surely happen if Lizzie ever dies. On the federal level we have the Governor-General, who stands in for the Queen. On the provincial level, the Lieutenant-Governor fills that position, and each province has one but I am not sure about the three territories. The main population of the territories is indigenous, so they are already “children of the Queen,” and she is not a very loving mother, though that is for another time.
Anyways, the only people who can officially call for an elction, or who can give power
to a political party or coalition to run the government are these representatives of the Queen. However, since they can only call an election at the request of the Prime Minister or a Premier, it is people like Trudeau or Kenny who can ask for an election, excepting in the case of death, which power then falls upon the next person in the chain of the ruling party’s command.
?(This is why a huge number of Canadians want to get rid of the Queen. If at least the queen chose her own representatives the position might have some power, but it is the leader of the ruling party who appoints the person to fill the queen’s shoes in Canada. So, most of the time, it goes to some stupid person who donated a bunch of money to the party. I daresay the new Governor-General will hopefully start a new trend, as she herself in First Nations, and maybe she can actually accomplish something other than causing scandals!
So, did you get all that? Don’t feel bad if you are confused, so are most Canadians. The bottom line is, only premiers or prime ministers can call an election, though they must call one at the end of their terms if not before. Oh, by the way, all parliamentarians (federal) or legislative members (provincial) lose their jobs at the same time when the queen’s representative dissolves the current body, at the party leader’s request, of course.

  5. meanwhile, hypocritical jerks like nancy pelosi and even the stupid mayor of the district of criminals don’t obey their own mask mandates. Do you not see what the problem that people have with any of this is? do you not understand that it’s one rule for them and one rule for us? do you not have the slightest inkling of comprehension that the world was shutdown for a disease that has a mortality rate of 2, maybe 3% ( that’s being generous) and that most of the people who died had underlying conditions that would have lead them through that gate of mortality anyway? Do you not care that it was a draconian political response and heavy handed government who shutdown small businesses, locked people in their homes, made children lose a precious year of academic learning that they will never ever get back?
If you don’t understand or acknowledge any of this, then there is honestly no hope for you as a clearly thinking individual or any of your readers who may agree with everything you present from your continuously angry mind on this blog. Yes, I am mad as hell, especially with publishers like you who continuously propigate foolish nonsense like all republicans are evil, everyone who doesn’t get the vaccine, no matter what their reason, is an incubator of jerms that’s going to kill everyone they come in contact with, etc.
How can I have any respect for anyone who so willingly and frequently disciminates completely false information? I cannot.
And that’s the honest truth as I see it.

    • More than 4 million people worldwide have DIED from this terrible disease, Scott, nearly 650,000 of them here in the U.S. Each one of those people had friends, spouses, parents, children, grandchildren who loved them. No, Scott, they were not “mostly people with underlying conditions”, but even if they were, does that make them of less value to those who loved them? Your lack of concern, of humanity, of empathy is astounding to me. I thought you were a better man than this.

WHY should that even matter? What really counts is that you take care of yourself! To place the actions of any individual (politician, church leader, movie actor, etc.) above your own welfare is to your own detriment.

    • It’s a shame the honest truth as you see it seems to be a little warped Scott. A lot of people aren’t obeying the mask mandate. Those people are quite happy to catch the worst (so far) variant of Covid19 but worse still they may carry it and infect somebody else without giving a damn. Since most of those people are in the Southrn States where the virus is on the increase it’s quite reasonable to assume they’re Republicans as the Democrats don’t seem to have a problem with the vaccine.
If your 2 to 3% is correct then that’s still huge amount of people. The truth is that the majority don’t have underlying conditions, when there was a problem it was 1 case in 10,000 to a grand total of about 30 people before a problem with a vaccine and a certain condition was found and corrected. This virus is spreading much quicker than the original and is attacking young people as well. They don’t have underlying conditions either. In the US there was no Draconian response, for the first year there was hardly any response at all while Republican politicians mocked anyone using a mask, listened to Trump lie about it’s affect and ignored all medical advice. I’m grateful not every country acted like that. The UK have had lockdowns nd mask mandates that most people have followed without complaint and like Europe the vaccine take up has been good. the deaths in the US could largely have been avoided given a different President at the start. Most people on this blog agree with most of what Jill says, it’s why we’re here. But if we do differ we can usually get over it quite pleasantly as friends can disagree.
      Hugs.

  8. The Party of No Have now realised that they’ve likely been committing murder since the start of the Pandemic. This sudden change of attitude doesn’t seem to be having the effect they hoped so it now leaves their members committing suicide instead. Had the GOP been honest from the start then a lot more people would have come forward for the vaccine and Covid19 would likely be under control by now. Please take the virus more seriously. Mask Up, Wash hands frequently and for Heaven’s sake, for the sake of family and friends, Get the Vaccine.
