I saw an article headline in the New York Times this morning …
Who Has the Cure for America’s Declining Birthrate? Canada.
A number of things went spinning through my mind, but the dominating thought was – why does our declining birth rate need or deserve a cure??? All things considered, this world does not need any more humans hellbent on destroying our precious resources! It seems, especially of late, that there is a taint in the gene pool here in the U.S. that more and more of our population are affected with TS – Terminal Stupidity.
Rather than trying to increase an already hefty population, let’s focus on educating the ones we have! In fact, I would advocate sterilization for every single individual who blatantly refuses to be vaccinated or to wear a mask. They are the breeders of TS.
And then there’s the environment. At the current rate which we are ignoring the dire warnings of the scientific community and the IPCC, human life on this planet cannot possibly last past the end of the century, likely not even that long. So … WHY does anybody think it’s a good idea to bring more lives onto the planet to suffer the devastating effects that are going to take place in the coming years??? What a cruel thing to do! Over the next generation or two, there will be food and water scarcity, devastating fires, droughts, floods.
Rather than try to boost the birthrate, I say we make birth control free and widely available, same with abortions. It is unconscionable to keep piling people on top of people who have no future. We, humans, have no future and we have only ourselves to blame. Don’t subject even more people to a slow, painful, drawn-out death.
Now, some of you may argue that one of those new lives could be the very person who grows up to find a way to save the planet. And there was a time that would have been my view as well. However, as I watch those with TS parading around doing far more harm than good, even to their own loved ones, I realize that if we were handed a solution on a silver platter today, there are far too many affected by TS who would rebel, who would refuse to make whatever sacrifices were needed on their part, for it would, in their book, “infringe on their freedoms”. They would sooner see this planet crash and burn than to make some small effort to help save it, so no matter how brilliant the plan to save the planet might be, the TS bunch will stomp on it.
Sorry, folks, but my faith in the goodness of human nature is gone. Done. When I see a parent ripping the mask off of a teacher, see hordes of people cheering a madman who has done more than his share to add to the destruction of not only this nation, but the world, and see a motorcycle rally where not one lousy person of the thousands in attendance is wearing a mask, despite the surge in both new cases and deaths, despite the new Lambda variant on the horizon, then I know there isn’t much hope for rallying the crowd in a huge effort to save the planet. Let the birth rate continue to decline. It’s for the best.
And for those of you who haven’t yet had the joy of grandchildren … buy a puppy. They’re cuter, much more low-maintenance, cheaper to feed, and loyal.
Pingback: We Don’t Need More Babies !!!! | Ramblings of an Occupy Liberal
Yes obviously some people still have to have babies otherwise the human race would die out.. perhaps not a bad idea… certainly no one should put pressure on others and assume everyone should or want to have a baby. We should respect those who decide ( whether for altruistic reasons or because they want to have fun and go on lots of holidays ) they don’t want children and they should not feel embarrassed to say so. Of course if you have no children and go on lots of flying and cruising holidays that could mean you damage the planet more than if you had stayed home and had children! But we all know that it is usually the TS parents in all walks of life that tend to have loads of children If Hitler had not made Eugenics a taboo subject I wonder if selective programmes would have been set up by now? But who can tell which child from the most unlikely start in life will turn out to be a great person. I’m going off to read the other comments now!

I remember decades ago, my husband’s cousin, Randy, and his wife decided not to have children. They didn’t travel much, and their reasons were their own, but the family was aghast! They would not leave them alone, told them it was their ‘responsibility’ to have children, to provide his mother with grandchildren (never mind that she had six other children who did more than their part to give her grandbabies). They finally stopped coming to family get-togethers and who could blame them. You’re right … it is the TS parents who think it is their duty to single-handedly populate the earth with 5-10 children in their lifetime. I wouldn’t support selective programmes anyway, but I do think China’s one-child policy made sense … except that it led to brutally murdering far too many baby girls.

The last line is very wicked, Jill! Lol I am knowing some youngsters in the UK, who got gifted a puppy, to learn how to act in future with a baby. 😉 I don’t know if it can work that way. xx Michael

I don’t know if it can work that way either, Michael, but … if a child is raised with an animal, it seems they’re almost certain to learn to be gentle and kinds, so maybe … xx

Jill you seem to be sending mixed messages here. While i agree that the Earth is overpopulated and decreasing the human birthrate is necessary for allowing nature to recover, climate, resources etc.
Why are you knocking TS? From your line of reasoning and rationale, humanity NEEDS more terminally stupid ppl to commit viral suicide so they don’t pass on their stupidity gene to the next generation!
Plague is one of the four horseman of the apocalypse, it seems nature/ god/ existence deemed it necessary to cull the herd every once in a while.
Of course my snideness is tongue ‘n cheek… truth be told would it upset you terribly if 40% of the population passed on, most of them TS Republicans? Hmmm……. 😉

Jill, I enjoyed both the post and some of the comments. What isn’t discussed is something I’ve written about, which is that the market economy doesn’t know how to cope with a world with a declining population of both consumers and workers. Then there’s the military-industrial complex which needs its cannon fodder. And there’s the burden of rationalizing social security with a declining worker population. These are all challenges that don’t exist as long as population is increasing, quality of life be damned. However, there are limits to growth, and eventually we have to confront decline, now or later. We just lack the will and leadership to make the necessary changes.

All good points, Vic, and some I hadn’t considered. As re the military-industrial complex … well, I wouldn’t mind if they were continually reduced until but a speck on the horizon. And the market economy is going to have to find ways to adjust and adapt, for we simply cannot continue depleting the finite resources of the planet just to feed human greed. I suspect the lesson will come swiftly and painfully at some point, I hope after I’m gone.

we are tracking very close to the forecast of the 1970 era Limits to Growth model. Think you’llbe here in 2040?

No, the odds of me still being here in 2040 are slim-to-none! Might make it to 2022 if I’m lucky!

Because people are living longer than before, to the 100s, and, the younger generations are marrying later and later, that is why there’s, this problem with the population, aging too fast, and, the governments are actually, dumb enough to believe, that the solution is for us to have more babies, and that’s, just not sound, because who wants to, bring a new baby, into, this hell we’re, already, living on???

People are being kept alive to tout the ‘miracle’ of modern medicine, but for many living into their 90s and 100s, the quality of life is long gone. For me, it’s quality over quantity.

Jill, while Scottie notes an important component in the minds of too many, we should not lose sight of the key point in TED talk a few years ago answering the question how many people can the earth support.
The answer noted if we consume resources like the average Rwandan, the earth can support 15 billion. If we consume like the average North American, the earth can support between 2 and 3 billion. Right now, we are at about 7 billion. So, this birth rate issue is of import. Keith

You and Scottie both make excellent points, my friend. The earth can only produce a finite amount of food, and water is, contrary to what some seem to believe, a finite resource. And those crying for more babies (white babies) are the ones who live like the average North American. Thanks for the reminder.

Someone, somewhere will be frantically tapping out on their website that:
1. It is the duty of every fertile WASP woman (or barely legal girl) and stay at home and to have at least four children.
2. LGBT is actually a Socialist-Jewish-Atheist-Satanic Worshipping plot to reduce the birth-rate & thus dilute the true pure blood of God’s Selected (ignoring the fact that the NW of Europe was the last place to pick up on Christianity).
3. That gun control is actually a Socialist-Jewish-Atheist-Satanic Worshipping-Women’s Rights plot to leave ‘true Americans’ defenceless to be slaughtered by rampaging hordes of ‘other lesser peoples’ and thus WASP women must have at least four children.
And worse thousands will flock to that site excitedly agreeing.
Thank you for highlighting the problem of TS.

“here in the U.S. that more and more of our population are affected with TS – Terminal Stupidity.”
Not just the US, all of the western world. And all are moaning about a declining birth rate, those stupid fux! 😦
Guess why Canada doesn’t show the same symptoms: Canadians are still living in a healthy environment, are well educated, well fed … and have a future. They can allow themselves the weakness to produce more humans.
Remember China’s one-child policy? And how the west was making fun of it? Well, China not only won the war against hunger, but is the richest country on earth by now. Everybody profitted from having less babies.
You are right: More children isn’t the answer! Quite the contrary.

Except they have millions of spare men, due to aborting female babies. Now I guess that would provide a good workforce, but not a good life for all those reluctant bachelors.

I think you’re right. It would be best to start thinning the crowd out a llittle from now so that less of them are around to suffer as the human population dies out and starts to be replace by whatever can survive and is about to take over the mantle from us. Cockroaches probably which by description are probably similar in nature.
No point in subjecting members of your family to sufferering food and water shortages or of having to keep them out of the sun. And I can just see things in the last few weeks of the human occupation. All of the unwilling to help coming together to save the Worldand being told it’s too late, there’s no time, saying “Well you should have warned us sooner. Here we are willing to help and the Government turns us down”.No doubt someone will threaten to imperach the President,
Yes, let’s thin the crowds,

“Cockroaches probably”
Yeah, that’s what we think but I’ve watched a doccie about “Earth after humans” or so and the scientists came to the conclusion that Roaches and rats are just too similar and close to us to survive for long. They strive on our garbage, once that source is drying up, so are those insects and critters.
Too bad we won’t be around to enjoy our final victory.

That’s probably right Orca. I hope in spite of whatever we’ve done Earth can repair herself and in a few thousand years if intelligent life ever steps on the [planet again, tthey find it teeming with wildlife that survived, but that their first thought isn’t to hunt and kill whatever they can.And if they find reminders of us it isn’t as we really were so we can be remembered by our achievements and not for our shame.

Oh, I don’ worry about the planet itself. Good ole Earth will do her rounds around the sun for another billion years. She’s survived worser onslaughts, meteors, asteroids, earthquakes, volcano eruptions, continenal shifts, ices ages, droughts, floods, poisoned atmosphere … and still she’s rolling on her path. I’m more worried about the mammal lifeforms on her surface.

Earth will survive, but how many of the species to whom she is host will? That’s my greater concern.

Hello Jill. I think you might be missing the point. The reason some groups want a cure for the falling birthrate. It is racism. What they really mean is the white people are not breeding enough and they want a cure for that. Of course their cure would come from a mostly white nation also. The Hispanic population in the US accounts for most of birthrate in the US. That scares these people. The country with the highest birth rate in central America is Guatemala. Guatemala has the highest fertility rate of any Latin American, beating out some of the poorest countries in the region. Its current fertility rate is 3.98 children per woman. This is nearly double the replacement level, which is quite divergent from Cuba’s fertility rate. In South America is iBolivia: 21.45 births per 1000 people and the lowest value was in Chile: 12.19 births per 1000 people. But those countries have the wrong color people. The solution to the problems caused by dropping population is simple, redistribution of people, in other words immigration. Let the people on the Southern border in. They want to work, they want the dream of creating a prosperous life for themselves and their families, they want to create good communities. Sound like the American dream and a win for everyone. Hugs

Also last time I checked, hispanics were whites. Not much of a difference between a Swede and a Spaniard. Might be different in America since yours are blended with indigenous tribes in a fashion that never occured in the US.

It’s a good point. However in the USA there is still the issue of the WASP – White Anglo-Saxon Protestant, those self-appointed sorts who jealously guard it have very ‘strict rules’ about who can qualify. North Western European ancestry and those whose blood goes back to the Isles off the coast of France need only apply.

Celtic, Germanic, Lombard, you name it, they’ll mess about with it.
Point out that Jesus Christ was Semitic and they’ll go scrabbling for some books which argue he actually wasn’t.
Try and tell them Humanity came out of East Africa and if they don’t wave a gun at you be prepared a long incomprehensible lecture on ‘racial theory’.
Press them on history, and you’ll know you’re winning when they fall back on the ‘That’s what ‘they’ want you to believe’ excuse.

Hello Orca. The white supremacist do not see Hispanics as white. As that is the people who are pushing race as a major difference between people we have to look at what they use for guidelines. To them descendants of white Europeans are the only real white people. Hugs

The irony being their antics have subjected all Americans the same kind of racist discrimination, but by sections of the British political Left Wing (only don’t mention it to any British Left Winger; they get very touchy about it. Them racist? The very idea!!)

Hello deteremineddespitewp. Do racist even understand that race is mostly a social construct, that we are all mixed now? I doubt these people understand how their own ancestry is filled with those they now claim are undesirable. Biodiversity makes an organism stronger and restricting the genetic pool causes increased sickness and malformations. I have a theory on what drives racist. They know how badly they treat others that are different from them. They are afraid that if they are not in charge, those they mistreated my return the favor and mistreat them. Fear that others will do to them what they did to the others. Sad way to ruin the golden rule. Hugs

Hi there Scottie.
No, they don’t. A long, long time ago I ceased to trust ‘nationalist’ groups for this very reason.
Racism is based on ignorance, and racists collect so they can feed off their own prejudices. Sadly it proliferates across the whole of Humanity, and the political scene too. In the UK I have witnessed as much ignorance and bigotry on the Left as you would see in the ranks of MAGA, only they try and dignify it by supporting ‘a cause’ seen as persecuted by the targets of their hate.
Your theory does have a great deal of credence, though I would differ on that they ‘know’ how badly they treat others; to my eye they just revel in it.

You make an excellent point … one I wasn’t thinking of at the moment, but indeed a very valid one. They don’t just want babies, they want WHITE babies. Thanks for reminding me!
