Humour In The News

Sometimes you come across something in the news and you just have to laugh.  No, I’m not talking about the numerous stories detailing the idiocy of Republicans, but news oddities.  Take, for example these two stories from Ohio, the state I am unfortunately condemned to live in …

This first one is from Hudson, Ohio, a small town, a bedroom community to the tri-cities of Cleveland, Akron, and Canton in the northern part of the state.  Ice fishing is a popular winter pastime on the Hudson Springs Lake but might soon be outlawed if Hudson Mayor Craig Shubert has his way.  Y’see, Mr. Shubert is worried that ice fishing will lead to … prostitution!  Yep, you heard it right …

“If you open this up to ice fishing, while on the surface it sounds good, then what happens next year? Does someone come back and say, ‘I want an ice shanty on Hudson Springs Park, for X amount of time?’ And then if you … allow ice fishing with shanties, then that leads to another problem: prostitution. And now you’ve got the police chief and the police department involved.”

And the second story comes from Ottawa, Ohio, a tiny village of just over 4,000 people.  Now, you’ve all heard about the big trucker’s convoy up in Canada that is wreaking havoc on people’s lives, and all because the truck drivers are against mask mandates … sigh, that is getting old, people.  Anyway, there is a growing movement here in the U.S. in support of the Canadian truckers (surprise, surprise) and one man in Ohio smugly thought he would do his part to support the truckers.  So, thinking he was calling the Ottawa Canada police department, he called in a bomb threat so police would waste their time chasing it.  A rather juvenile mind he has, I think, but it turns out he didn’t even take the time to make sure the number he was calling was the right one, and he ended up calling the police in Ottawa, Ohio, in the U.S.  Twice, in fact.  The first time he made a bomb threat and the second time he falsely claimed he had been shot.

The sheriff’s office is asking the prosecutor to ‘consider charges’ against the unnamed man.  WTF???  Consider charges?  He should have been arrested and charged already … if I called a bomb threat into any police department in the world, no doubt I’d be thrown into jail by the end of that day!  Ah well, Ohio is a pretty crappy state with representatives like Jim (Gym) Jordan and Warren Davidson and a majority that voted for the former guy, so what more could I expect?

Well, that’s my bit of humorous news for today, so let’s end with a few ‘toons …

    • Oh good!!!! I won’t have to stick around much longer! Joking aside, though, there are numerous reasons I can think of, including the Ohio River that is classified, I believe, as the dirtiest in the nation, and the steel/auto industries in the northern part of the state.
