I seem to lack motivation today … so I decided to share TokyoSand’s weekly political cartoon post with you rather than subject you to my own ill humour. The main topics of the day, of course, are the confirmation of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the U.S. Supreme Court, and the Russian war against Ukraine. Be sure to follow the link at the end to see the rest of the ‘toons, for this is only a small sampling. Thank you, TS!!!
The Week’s Best Cartoons 4/9
This week spanned the emotions — the highs of Ketanji Brown Jackson being confirmed for the Supreme Court and lows of the conflict in Ukraine.

Good share Jill, I visited the rest.
Suggestion….Tucker Carson should be the recipient of pictures of damage, death and distress out of Ukraine; not just one, but a constant flow; give him no respite.

That’s a GREAT idea!!! I wonder if he has a conscience anywhere under that ugly mug?

In the very hard world of the tough end of European politics if you can’t convince them to change their minds, or keep quiet, you either break them or ruin them.
Sorry ’bout that.

Isn’t it a damn shame, though, that it comes down to that? Politics is, in my book, the antithesis of ‘good governance’.

Problem is you can’t do ‘good governance’ without it….. Leastways not in this stage of our evolution (sort of)

That, my friend, is the conundrum. For the people to have a voice, we must have fair and honest elections, and to have elections, we must have politicians who campaign. Sadly, these days the winner is generally the one who raised the most money, not necessarily the one best suited to the job of good governance.

It’s either money or tribalism at the present. One of those stages in the cycle of Democracy.
We either make it through or slip into a deeper ‘How Did We Get Here?’
Democracy: Messy. Constantly disappointing. Paradoxical. Always in danger.
But the only Hope we’ve got.

There’s the English saying which is supposed to be based on a Chinese curse (apparently that is a source of debate):
‘May you live in interesting times’

Hmmmm … could be a blessing OR a curse, depending on the times. I think I’ve heard that one before …

A great selection from An Amazing whole. The two additions were particulary good.

Si, the wind is out of our sails, and a good balance is to view the best cartoons. The one about the burner phones was especially comical. I chuckled out loud.

The talent, the way the cartoonists can say as much with a simple drawing as we can say in a 1,000 word post, always amazes me. If only I had artistic talent, but alas, I have none. I’m glad you found a chuckle or two … we need it!
