A Pessimistic View of the Mid-terms

Jeff hasn’t been posting much of late, but when he does, he DOES! This post says everything I’ve been feeling, and likely much of what you’ve all been feeling of late. Please take a few minutes to read and think about it … share his words if you feel so inclined, for we need everyone to understand where the current path leads. Thanks, Jeff!

On The Fence Voters

I try like hell to be an optimist. I keep thinking my fellow Americans will ultimately do the right thing when it matters most. When they see the clear difference between our two political parties, they will surely choose the one that gives us the best chance of continuing to live in a democratic society and address the vital issues confronting us in the 21st century.

Unfortunately, of late, I’ve failed to maintain that positivity. I find myself increasingly in the category of folks who say the November mid-term elections will be a catastrophe for Democrats. Our current president has done a lot to move the country forward. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to matter to folks.

The American people are pissed. About everything, it seems. And, if I’m to be completely honest with myself, why shouldn’t they be? Inflation is out of control; the pandemic is still lurking, although…

  1. Some good news:
President Biden is telling confidantes—including former President Obama—that he plans to run for reelection, reports the Hill. The story quotes an anonymous insider who says that Biden, despite cratering poll numbers, believes he is the only Democrat who would be able to defeat former President Trump. “He’s clearly letting everyone know,” says the source, one of two quoted in the piece. Biden, who would be 82 at the start of a second term should he win, has previously said he would be “lucky” to face Trump in the general election.

    • You’re so right, dear friend. And yet … I’d rather be in our position than in France at the moment! If Marine LePen wins on Sunday … France will be completely upended! Hang in, Gary … think Switzerland, think coffee … I really do want to get that coffee set up soon!

    • Whereas our situation in the (dis) UK is bad, I’m not so sure if it is comparable with our suffering friends in the USA.
Our cunningly unwritten Constitution and unpredictable Unelected House of Lords does cause UK governments problems. And there are always ‘The Members of The House,’
Then there is the old tale (which has a basis for truth) of an MP being selected for the Government Front Bench, an Old Hand there explains to them the nuances of Front Bench where your profile is higher, the Old Hand then gets around to the ‘Other Side’ of ‘The House’, to which the New Front Bencher say ‘Ah the Enemy’, to which the Old Hand says ‘Oh no. They are The Opposition’ and gestures to the couples own back benches. ‘There is your enemy,’
Johnson’s drama has some time to run, there are twists ahead. For a start the Local Elections on the 5th May, The Conservatives lose councils, even seats and the rumblings will begin again.
