Our friend Jeff over at On the Fence Voters has neatly summed up the “State of the Nation” these days. Let me just say that by the Republican’s faux definition of the word “woke”, I am PROUD to be WOKE … I have to live with my conscience 24/7 and my conscience likes me being Woke! Thanks Jeff … great summation!
According to our conservative friends, being “woke” refers to those who are ridiculously politically correct and who speak out too much on social injustice. It’s commonly used as a pejorative term when referring to those on the left, increasingly paring it with phrases like “woke mob” or as a sledgehammer, using “anti-woke” to proclaim their vehement opposition.
The right-wing’s been successful at putting the term into the general public. And they do it by minimizing and mocking those standing up against generations of injustice suffered by marginalized folks such as the LGBTQ and people of color communities.
But the truth is, while they like to hang the term on liberals, we could and should hang it around the necks of today’s GOP and use it the same way on them. Because what we’re seeing right now play out across America is beyond radical. Perhaps we could call it “extreme wokeness.”…

I do not deny that clarification is necessary. But the conservatives are dealing with things that are useless, or at least can wait. We’ve got some bigger issues to settle around the world.

You’re so right about that … starting with Russia’s war against Ukraine! But, the Republicans (conservatives) are more interested in creating further division between “us” and “them” here at home, and it’s likely to get far worse as we get closer to election day in November. To them, nothing in the entire world matters but them winning the elections. xx

Isn’t this an issue all over the world, Jill? In every country communities are getting divided, because the oligarchs do not want to give back the stolen money. When two fight, the third rejoices. 😉 Enjoy a beautiful Sunday! xx Michael

I don’t think so, my friend. Sure, politics is a dirty game almost everywhere, but in some countries, qualifications and integrity matter more … those things seem to have been burned in a bonfire here in the U.S. I’m so tired of it, Michael … so tired of feeling like a pawn in a chess game. Tired of being told that I don’t matter, that We the People don’t matter, that only the wealthy and their minions matter. Sigh. xx

The price of gas went up as much as 20 cents a litre in some places in Canada yesterday. There was no economic reason for it. The oil companies did it just because they could. I am glad there is “no collusion,” as all the companies raised their prices on the same day, by the same amounts. And the govetnment did not say a thing!
20 cents a litre is like 80 cents a gallon for you. Can you imagine?

Yep, the oil companies are having a field day, using the war in Ukraine to milk every last cent that they can get out of us consumers. Luckily, I only have to fill my car about every three months, but daughter Chris fills hers weekly. We get reward points from Kroger, so it doesn’t hurt quite as much! Nonetheless, I resent the fossil fuel industry taking us for a ride while they laugh all the way to the bank.

I guess they see their end coming, and are making as much as they can while they can. The thing is, they will never get to spend it, and their heirs will just fritter it away.

Good point … they are on their way out. But … I always wonder … just what the heck do they plan to spend it on anyway??? One can only own so many mansions, planes, yachts, and gee-gaws. I think it would be funny as heck if their heirs have what they lack — a conscience — and give away all their fortunes to charitable causes!

Quite so. The things you and I value are much different than the ‘things’ the wealthy value. I’m more than satisfied with my nearly 20-year-old car because it starts and gets me where I need to go, but a wealthy person would look down their nose, for it is not a BMW or a Lamborghini. I’m happiest when I can do something that helps someone else, whether it’s donating $100 to the local homeless shelter, or helping someone get something off a high shelf in the grocery store, but the wealthy do not even understand the true meaning of happiness. They have to keep seeking it, but they are looking for it in all the wrong places.

I was ornery tonight. The aforementioned J.D. Vance posted something about his mother, how she was such a great mother, and I responded that it was just too bad she didn’t take advantage of her rights under Roe v Wade. Think that was hitting below the belt? I was angry … sigh … as I usually am these days.

I am proud to be woke, and as I said to Jeff, I wish everyone on the left would thank the rightwingers for recognizing our humanity. We care. Which is a backhanded insult simed at them for being “unwoke”!

I’m so glad we are not among the ‘unwoke’ and I cannot understand how ANYBODY can live in this world and not have compassion, not care about others. It’s almost as if there is some vital part of their anatomy missing.

More like losing a part of their “spirit.” People lose parts of their anatomy all the time, and still stay people. Losing that part of their spirit, they lose themselves. Yet it seems to be a popular thing to do these days.
It snowed here overnight. Everything looks so clean, if not green. I wish the whole world could be cleaned so easily.

SNOWED??? You serious? It’s in the 70s here and supposed to be 84° a few days this week coming! SNOW??? Yes, it would be wonderful if we could cleanse the world of evil that easily, wouldn’t it? SNOW????

Actually just 6 inches yesterday morning. I am afraid to look outside this morning, as it was supposed to snow more last night. Gail is hoping the weatherman was wrong. We had to shovel a path to our car yesterday so we could get to our car to keep our doctor’s appointments. And the snow was heavy snow. When they took our blood pressures both of us were high.
I did see one picture on the news yesterday of a car that all you could see was the top few inches, but that was mostly due to blowing snow.

Spring can come anytime in April or May, with freak snow storms any month of the year. Alaska sends them to us, and we send them down to the Grest Lakes.
I am as careful as I can be, but some days I just have no choice. But I take it slow… … …

Keep on sending them to Alaska, just don’t send them to the “lower 48”! Yes, I hear you, my friend … at our age, we have those days.

There is a Corsican proverb which is to do with the islands famous or notorious system of feuds.
The English version I heard was:
‘If you plan your revenge to take place in ten years, you are being too hasty,’ 😼

Hah!!! If I plan it for ten years then I will have to take my revenge as a wolf! Hmmmmm … I take it the guy who wrote that didn’t believe in revenge at all. Sigh. In theory, I don’t either, but in practice … 🤷

Apparently in Corsica Revenge is an art form, so you take your time planning the payback.

That I do not know. I know only that his grandfather was a coal miner in Wales and mother’s side of the family was from Spain. His parents sent him away when he was a young child, for they had hoped for a girl (even though they already had one) and he never chose to have anything to do with them once he reached adulthood. Thus, he only reluctantly ever talked about them and I never met either of them.

True, but it would have been nice to have known more about his early years. I did meet both of his sisters eventually. The elder, Thelma, was a snooty, uber-religious sort, but the younger, Marie, was a lovely woman and I enjoyed her and her family very much. Families 🙄

The party running the country I’m currently living in too, invent theses, never-before used or heard terms, to try and, fool the people, and, this is the failed attempt, of a political party, uses, as the, last resort, because it knows that the values it preaches, is, absolutely, unsound, and yet, there are those in the, population who are stull, gobbling those lies, up, truly, quite, sad…

It sounds like your country is going through much the same as we are here in the U.S. I saw something tonight that said something along the lines of “people will buy anything if you can convince them they need it”. This is what the politicians are doing … telling people they NEED a white, male-dominated society and … as you say, the people are gobbling it up. Sigh.

Because, it seems, they wish to mold society to their own views, they desire a return to the 1950s, a white, Christian, male-dominated, heterosexual society. Any who don’t fit into their mold, automatically become “the enemy”. I don’t understand it any more than you do, but they are making it all too clear that they are highly dissatisfied with the progress that has been made over the past 50 or so years.
