Today, President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden spoke in Buffalo, New York, regarding the horrific mass shooting on Saturday. I, for one, am thankful to have a president who cares, as President Biden so obviously does, who attempts to bring calm in times of chaos, hope in times of despair, and unity in times of divisiveness.
No matter, even if President Biden gave a Gettysburg Address, combined with elements of FDR’s ‘The only fear is Fear of Fear itself’ and JFK’s ‘Ask Not What My Country Can Do For Me…..’
Or did a Ronald Regan impression
The Republican Party’s irresponsible would will howl, scream and froth.

Sigh. I know you’re right, my friend. One can keep hoping, but given half a chance, the Republicans will shred that hope like they’re trying to shred this nation.

True. I doubt that any of us are fully aware of the price we’ll have to pay … or that our children/grandchildren will pay.

Jill, it is nice to hear something heartfelt and poignant from our president, than something self-serving from his predecessor. Keith

Indeed, it was like a breath of fresh air, and I couldn’t help but think about the speech the former guy would have given in similar circumstances.

I’m with you, Jill. Biden is getting a bad rap on any number of issues (including inflation, a worldwide condition in which Putin’s war and corporate greed are prominent)—against a radical Republican Party that is openly embracing white supremacy and, not incidentally, won’t let him appoint people to rebuild the govt trump dismantled.
And still Biden continues on his steady, calm, compassionate way, reminding us that he decided to run when the former guy called the Charleston neo-Nazis “very fine people.” (It now appears possible that tfg may well be charged for the insurrection he inspired).

It wasn’t unexpected, but it seems far more toxic and malicious than I expected. Take, for example, gas prices. All anybody needs to do is look at the profits of the oil companies to see where our extra dollars at the pump are going, but no … blame Biden. And the shortage of infant formula … that is a result of a number of things, none of which Biden has or had any control, and yet it is being manufactured, called a “crisis” and Biden is being blamed. It isn’t even anywhere near being a ‘crisis’, but … the politicos have convinced the ignorant masses that their babies are gonna die and it’s all Biden’s fault. I’m so sick of it.
I do greatly admire him and his speech brought a tear to my eyes a couple of times. It’s so grand to have a president with compassion and the capability of grieving for others without turning it into a three-ring circus as the former guy no doubt would have done. I do hope he (Trump) is charged, indicted, and convicted. I read tonight that some nutcase has proposed legislation to expunge Trump’s impeachments! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Can you imagine in the farthest regions of your mind that the “former guy” would ever make such a trip and speak with such care, concern, and passion? If he did anything like this at all, there is no doubt it would have turned into a political gambit to boost HIMSELF!

Nope, and that was my thought as I watched the video. The former guy would have turned it into a debacle, for he has no sense of decorum, or respect, and everything always has to be about him. I’m so thankful he wasn’t the one to go to Buffalo, for I’m sure I’d be in a murderous rage by now.

I appreciate the need to spin things in favor of partisan bias, especially in an election year. Everybody does it.
But the administration response to the hyperinflation which it caused is to blame others. Such is perceived a failure of leadership. The regime’s response to unaffordable gas prices was literally laughter.
And the regime’s response to the baby formula crisis, “Let them suck tit!” is completely unappreciated by desperate mothers. This is especially true since illegal alien mothers crossing our southern border have all the baby formula they need.
When political rhetoric becomes so divorced from what average people deal with everyday, a political reckoning becomes eminent. People who profess to care about their country and its democratic form of government proceed into peril.

Since it’s late and since I’m exhausted and since this post wasn’t about inflation or infant formula, I’ll tackle just one of your statements for now. Please note that there is no crisis regarding infant formula. There IS a temporary shortage, but infant formula is available and there are alternatives to commercial formulas. The “crisis” is manufactured by those who are seeking a chink in the armour. And on that note, I’m going to try to finish the remaining comments and get some sleep. G’nite.

Sorry, SOM, you lose again. Did “this administration” cause “hyperinflation” all around the world? Your loaded term, hyperinflation is intended to build animosity, as if only WHITE EVANGELICAL MALES IN AMERICA* are sutfering from high prices. THE WHOLE EFFIN’ WORLD IS SUFFERING FROM HIGH PRICES! Not just Aumerica. And futher, IT IS CAUSED BY GREEDY CORPORATIONS AND COMPANIES TAKING THEIR BIGGEST PROFITS EVER OUT OF THE ECONOMY! Every country in the world is suffering. To try to say Biden caused it is to be intentionally blind, and PUROSELY DIVISIVE!
As for your baby formula crises, exactly how does a government respond to a lack of baby formula CAUSED BY CORPORATE AMERICA not by government. Having one factory produce 40% of the formula used in America IS A DISASTER WAITING TO HAPPEN. Further, that particular factory failed to keep their equipment sterile, which is what caused the recall in the first place. THE COMPANY WAS NOT WILLING TO SPEND ENOUGH MONEY TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THEIR PRODUCTwhich was their RESPONSIBILTY TO THEIR CUSTOMERS! Where was their quality control? To make as much CONTAMINATED FORMULA WITHOUT ANYONE CATCHING IT TELLS NO ONE WAS LOOKING! Or else that they knew, and because there was so much of it, they couldnot afford to destroy that much product so they sent it out anyway, hoping no one would notice. TO ME THAT IS CRIMINAL LIABILITY! And you want to blame that on Biden too! Blame it on the effin’ Republucans who made it impossible to sue corporations! But corporate officials can be not only sued, but charged with crimes against humanity, and I hope every one of them gets thrown in jail for life!

Rawgod, First, I love posts like the one you are commenting. The poster claimed that the baby formula shortage was phony. So I went on-line and checked Walmart. At Walmart, there are no restrictions on buying baby formula. So I says to myself, “WTF! Maybe I’ve been duped.”
Second, little lesson in economics for you: the dollar is the global currency. That means America gets to export its inflation. Make no mistake, the policies that have caused global hyperinflation were instituted on purpose and include:
1. Shutting down America’s energy independence.
2. Excessive government spending which means printing money without corresponding increase in goods and services.
Corporate America loves the present regime and works with it at all levels. So if corporate America is to blame for anything, so is the federal government.
I don’t think we want to go down that road.

Your ‘little lesson in economics’ misses the boat, I’m afraid. In fact … I don’t think it’s even in the ocean.

Jill, the laws of economics are what they and immutable. They are like Newton’s Laws of Motion. If you jump off a roof you’ll get hurt. Therefore, any governing regime must be careful in the management of its economy. Printing trillions of dollars as was done in the last two years while crippling the energy industry results in inflation. Everybody knows that. Since 2021, gasoline prices in my area went from $1.75 a gallon to $4.00 a gallon. That is inflation that everyone can see and feel. Politicians deny reality at their own peril, especially when people are hurting badly.

There’s a big difference between laws of science and laws of humans. Newton’s Law is science, Economics is people-driven, can and DOES change over the course of time, as situations change. One thing that I find either humorous or angering, depending on my mood of the moment, is the fact that politicos keep trying to bring back Reagan’s “Theory of Trickle-Down Economics”. I doesn’t work, has been proven time and time again that it doesn’t work, but people are stupid enough to believe it when they are told that by putting more money into the pockets of the wealthy, they themselves will benefit. Today’s gas prices and inflation are temporary based on supply chain issues yes, but more importantly based on corporate greed. Prices could have remained near their 2021 levels had the corporate honchos not seen this as an opportunity to gouge the public while adding more profit to their own coffers.

I fear these are the least of your worries in the USA.
Currently the USA faces a critical dislocation of communities which dwarfs even the 1960s-early 1970s controversies of Vietnam and the brief spasm of The Counter-Culture.
The threat faced is one of Communal Violence. This needs to be faced in a mature and responsible fashion, and accepted as a threat all nations face in some form or another.
President Biden is attempting to walk a very tight rope, while a group of politicians of The Right act in a most irresponsible manner, inflaming difficult circumstances with statements hardly likely to ease the debate.
You were relatively lucky with the Civil War of the 19th century, the government decided for the sake of unity to Forgive and Forget.
In the current situation the failure of one wing of politics to accept the Will of the majority places your nation in a very dangerous situation.
This is your principal problem.
